“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Old hotel which seems never to have been renovated. The rooms are not attractive as they are old and all is dark brown inside. Not all the staff speaks English and for the one who did, they have a very bad level. So it's very difficult to communicate and to be understood. They have no sense of service. For example if you ask one to book a taxi they just answer that you have to wait in front of the hotel. A good advice: be careful with your belongings inside the room, my husband forget his cufflinks and they disappeared... I will never go again in this hotel.

This was an excellent hotel if you needed to be in Beijing for business more so than for English speaking travelers. Most of the workers, including front desk, did not speak English. Granted, it is China and I tried to utter some broken Mandarin, but it is always nice when little things like local maps and subway maps are in English for us ugly Americans :)...I got one at the Starbucks a block down.
The restaurant was great, and so was the bakery. This hotel is on a conveniently located street, with the Silk market two blocks down, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden Palace only 6 subway stops down and the Temple of Heaven just a few subway stops with a transfer.
Great value and location for the price.

WORST NIGHTMARE EVER! My friend helped us to book a room here through ctrip and I had no idea what is was like.. The Looks can be deceiving. After opening the door a noxious smell enveloped us and kept us from relaxing, Gross... Plus the aisle was super noisy at midnignt! I heard Slamming of doors and yelling up a storm! I found the staff to be slow and unhelpful particularly in regards to my checkin. The checkin STAFF made me wait a long time while he took care of other paperwork DURING check in and still made mistakes for my reservation which took us wait EVEN LONGER .The next day when I asked the lady at front desk for info on tours etc Didn''t look at interested in helping us at all. I wonder if the managerr knows just how bad of service the staff is giving to customers!AND the best part is They charge extra 110 bucks for "BREAKFAST" per person if you call it so.
This place needs a full renovation from A to Z. I''m not usually a picky person when it comes to hotels because I try to find low budget ones. However, I could not tolerate this poor standard hotel that ruined the start of our vacation in beijing. Do not stay stay here unless this is the last hotel in the universe!!!

My own opinion:

UPSIDE (1) close to the famous Silk Market and safe to walk (2) breakfast choice is ok (3) staffs are awesome (4) various tee shops along the way and Starbuck nearby

DOWNSIDE (1) carpet in the room seems old and (2) lobby is too small

Though the location is nice: close to subway and the Forbidden city, silk market and walking streets, - there is nothing special or fancy about the hotel itself.

The staff working the floors and room service are diligent, responsive, courteous... Can't say the same about the front desk.

And beware of possible fraud when exchanging your currency... Check every note, as they may give you same fake ones. Alas when you return to them with the fakes they will refuse to take it back, turn a cold shoulder and advise you to accept this fact as is.

The rooms are more or less clean but the carpets are worn out and there's some mold in the bathrooms.

Breakfast starts early (5:30) and most of the dishes are either Chinese or Japanese, some cold cuts, a selection of salads, egg/noodle station. Nothing special to savor. Plain but nourishing.

In order to use the pool you have to wear a bathing cap.

The experience was nor bad nor good - just an old hotel with average services.

The hotel was good for stay. The concierge was good but not the helpful kind you would expect...for Indians traveling, there is an indian restaurant walking distance from the hotel...otherwise nothing great but not bad..this review is based on my trip few years back

It was a decent hotel in a decent location- very close to the silk market and restaurants, a bit farther to other shopping. It's a decent trip to the major sites. The room was OK, but could use a little maintenance- peeling paint in a few places, a little mold in the bathroom, older furnishings. The bed was nice, but definitely firm. The breakfast buffet was pretty good and had something to suit just about any taste. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The main street side view (hotel front) is much better.
