“Good base for our Beijing adventure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 10 days during our trip to Beijing. We were very pleased with the hotel. Our room was clean and well maintained, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, arranging and calling cabs for us so we did not have to hail them on the street, since, as other reviewers have correctly noted, some cabbies did not seem inclined to stop for foreigners, perhaps it is because we were there during National Week, a major Chinese holiday. The staff was very helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. There is a small convenience store that is attached to the front of the hotel, I don't think they are connected to the hotel, but you could get soda and light snacks there, and the prices were quite reasonable.

Breakfast was included in our stay. It seemed that if you came down when the restaurant first opened, there would be mostly Chinese style breakfast choices on the buffet. Around 8:30 it seemed that the buffet choices would change over to more of a "western" style breakfast, with scrambled or hard boiled eggs, bacon (sometimes) sausage (sometimes) and beans in tomato sauce. There was always toast, jams and cold cereals available, as well as fresh cut watermelon daily. Not the most exciting breakfasts offered, but you are in a hotel, and the food was fresh and hot and enough to get you going on your busy day.

The hotel does offer dinner, but it did not seem interesting to us, and we found some wonderful authentic Chinese restaurants (Peking Duck) within walking distance.

The hotel is conveniently located. It is not in the busy part of Beijing, so you get a good night's sleep. it is within walking distance of the Temple of Heaven.

We felt our stay was worth the price we paid, and would recommend to others.

Tips:

To operate the air conditioning in your room, you need to insert one of your room key cards into the slot right inside the door. Keep in mind that if you remove the card, the air conditioning will turn off, so if you want to have a nice cool room when you return from a busy day of sightseeing, leave one of your key cards in the slot. We heard so many people in the dining room complaining that their air conditioning did not work (it was very hot when we were there in October). It was actually because they did not know they needed to use the room key to turn the unit on.

Ask the hotel staff to order cabs for you.

Make sure you get a hotel card with the name and address of the hotel written in Chinese, so you can show it to a cab driver when you want to return to the hotel after your day is finished.

Let the hotel arrange for your transport back to the airport.

The hotel also can arrange day trips to all of the various sites in Beijing, such as The Great Wall. We booked one trip to The Great Wall through the hotel, and had a remarkable, unforgettable day!! The guide spoke excellent English, we had an air conditioned van, and we get to see and do much more than we expected. Well done.

The hotel is actually very nice for the price. Rooms were excellent. It was in a quiet area and a bit away from the action (which I guess some people will enjoy). But taxis are cheap (although hard to get) and the main sights are not far by taxi.
No fitness centre by the way.

The room were well maintained. Staffs were very helpful, polite and able to communicate in english. We reached the hotel in late night and so the restaurant was closed we had to walk almost 1 km to find another restaurant.Location of the hotel is bit far from airport and surrounding is not very beautiful.

The hotel was included in our tour package although I did look up the room prices on the net and they seemed very reasonable. The room we had was not large, but well set up and our window overlooked an interesting street scene with local people going about their daily life. Everything function really well and the room was cleaned to a very good standard everyday, the only thing missing was a small fridge there is also complimentary internet. We had a 5 night stay and breakfast was included which was a selection of Western and Asian food with only a few changes to the menu each day having said that the selection was more than adequate and we enjoyed what was on offer the staff in the dining room were very helpful and friendly. We did not have much interaction with reception staff as our guide did all the dealings with them so I cannot pass any comments. We ate at some of the local restaurants which where very reasonable and great value at about AU$16.00- $20.00 for the two of us. Most days we had tours organised around Beijing and in the evening walked around the local area and found the people to be very friendly towards us.The hotel is only a short interesting walk to The Temple of Heaven. I cannot pass comment on the location in regards to public transport as our guide picked us up everyday. We did get a taxi with no problem to Wangfujing Street, but had great difficulty getting a taxi back to the hotel the drivers in that area did not seem to want to pick up foreigners for some reason, that was the only negative thing from our fantastic stay in Beijing.

Clean and comfortable rooms, very helpful staff. Breakfast was ok (asian style foods),although the choices were not many, but sufficient.
The hotel is located in Beijing downtown, near (40 min walking) of Temple of Heaven. Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Wangfujing are close if you're in a cab.

A pretty nice hotel with a good price. The location of the hotel is very convenient to other main points of interests in Beijing. The size of the room is ok for a family and the room is very clean. The service of the staff is very good, feeling like at home.

Booked 3 rooms for 6 nights and we are happy we had chosen HIE.

Similar to other Holiday Inn Express that I have stayed, room in this HIE was found to be in tip top condition. Not only the room was clean, it's very new. Inside my double bed room there's a 32 inch LCD TV, an iPod Speaker Stand (wow), a double seat sofa and a desk with network cable and adjustable desk lamp. Yes, the room is spacious.

Breakfast was good. Although the choices were not many, but sufficient. There were noodles, fried rice, porridge, sausages, hard boiled egg, scramble egg, toast and cereals. There were also tea, coffee, hot/cold milk and hot soya milk. However with limited tables and large crowd, we had to wait for a while for empty table.

Location was not superb, since metro was kinda far away. But since we had booked private tour and we were picked up from the hotel everyday, so no issue for us. About 50 meters left of the hotel, there's a Mall similar to Tesco / Carrefour. So it's really convenient. There were also a few small restaurants next to the HIE. We had dinner in a noodle fast food restaurant and it was good and affordable (USD3/meal incl. drink).

This HIE has self service laundry room, as mentioned by previous reviewers, so we didn't bring too many clothes. This helps a lot since we are traveling with children. It's always nice traveling with light luggage.

Generally this is a great hotel to stay. We booked 6 months ahead and managed to secure the room at less than USD50/night. This was a really good price for what this HIE was offering.

Highly recommended. No wonder this HIE was ranked so high in Tripadvisor (Ranked #61 of 4,214 hotels in Beijing at this moment).
