“An oasis full of treats and surpises”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2010

I stayed at the Opposite House and it's sister hotel, the Upper House (see separate review) in Aug 2010 for one night. I've stayed in some pretty classy hotels, but this one blows your socks off.
It's friendly, airy and located in the heart of label heaven with Tiananmen square just a 20 minute taxi ride away (off peak traffic).
The room is open plan and full of blonde wood and white guaze curtains. The bed is huge, the cotton bedding as smooth as silk and the pillows firm yet soft.
The bathroom is heaven. Rainfall shower, plethora of towels, the most well thought out range of toiletries in a colourful bag and you can forget the pathetic hairdryer provided in most hotels. This one is turbo powered and, amazingly, you can plug it in near to a well lit mirror! Fluffy bathrobe and slippers? Tick.
Breakfast is everything you'd expect from a high end New York bakery, with the same relaxed feel. A place to linger if you're on holiday or to get you started if you're here for work.
From a business traveller perspective a very clever flip up panel next to the desk reveals a variety of plug types. Great if you've only got one adapter but a phone and laptop to be charged. Free wi-fi is available throughout the hotel and is painless to use.
The mini bar is stocked daily for free (except wine and champagne) and as well as all you need to make tea, there's also a cafetiere and good coffee. Perfect to keep you going when you arrive early AM from a 10 hour flight.
The gym is well equipped and there's a decent sized pool.
I wish I could have stayed for days

We loved this hotel and definitely plan to stay there again during our next trip to Beijing. The minimalist design is wonderful and even seems luxurious. The free wifi and minibar is a plus as well as the free use of bicycles. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Did not eat in the restaurant but enjoyed Mesh, the bar. The location is wonderful, whether for shopping and eating or biking or catching a taxi to see the sights. Everything was thought out well with nothing lacking. One of my favorite hotels ever.

This place is just awesome!
I have stayed at least 15 times in the Opposite House in Beijing and I really owe them a very positive review. I was just too lazy in the past to do so.
The hotel is located in "The village" the design-hot spot in Beijing, Sanlitun road. There are the most beautiful shops around the hotel, from a big Apple store to the adidas flagship to Uniqlo. All you need and expect. The hotel itself has a very good restaurant, the Mesh, the food is terrific especially the breakfast menu. You can choose from being served or/and select from a small but very delicious buffet.
There are more restaurants at the basement which are highly recommended wherever you look or ask around.
The hotel bar is beautiful as well as the "Punk" at the basement. On weekends you will see the most beautiful fashion victims of Beijing there (male&female).

The rooms are very bright, full of light, the interior is kept beige, white wooden. You can expect all need in a room, Mini bar is free just as WiFi.

The place is the best place to stay in Beijing.

One minus....
The hotel is surrounded by party places and also the music from the PUNK can be heard in your room. So if you can only sleep in deepest quiteness, don't go there ;-)

From a teen's perspective... surround-sound tv! free mini-bar with Snickers! cool pool! Great shampoo! automatic blinds! comfy bed! Loved it...........

From her mom's: Gorgeous pool simulating a night swim under the stars! Wonderful shower and extremely comfortable bed! Good meal at Bei! And a treat to be in such a beautifully designed hotel. The only downside was the breakfast...per others' comments.

Very unique, the rooms are comfortable, the location is perfect away from busy tourist attractions but easy to get to anywhere. Shopping centers, and great restaurants are right in the hotel. Best Japanese restaurant I've ever been too. Be prepared to spend spend spend.

We stayed 3 nights here after staying in a more traditional hotel. This place is very thoughtfully put together and amazing value for money. We loved the beautifully designed room; white and wood, clever design for wardrobing, toilet and shower with a big bath. The pull out feature for plugging in lap top/ iphone etc very handy. Complimentary minibar with great snacks. The bed was huge and super comfy with very good linen, romantic ++. We ate at the in house Asian restaurant which was very good. Breakfast included in our rate; mix of asian style and western offerings. Cute little personal touches at bed turn down with post it notes and gifts. Art exhibited in foyer, edgy. Hard to think of any way it could be improved, a bit noisy at night from outside at times but it didn't interfere with getting a good nights sleep. Great shopping in the area. Perfect retreat after a 10 km walk on the Great Wall from Jinshanling to Simatai.
