I stayed at the Opposite House and it's sister hotel, the Upper House (see separate review) in Aug 2010 for one night. I've stayed in some pretty classy hotels, but this one blows your socks off.
It's friendly, airy and located in the heart of label heaven with Tiananmen square just a 20 minute taxi ride away (off peak traffic).
The room is open plan and full of blonde wood and white guaze curtains. The bed is huge, the cotton bedding as smooth as silk and the pillows firm yet soft.
The bathroom is heaven. Rainfall shower, plethora of towels, the most well thought out range of toiletries in a colourful bag and you can forget the pathetic hairdryer provided in most hotels. This one is turbo powered and, amazingly, you can plug it in near to a well lit mirror! Fluffy bathrobe and slippers? Tick.
Breakfast is everything you'd expect from a high end New York bakery, with the same relaxed feel. A place to linger if you're on holiday or to get you started if you're here for work.
From a business traveller perspective a very clever flip up panel next to the desk reveals a variety of plug types. Great if you've only got one adapter but a phone and laptop to be charged. Free wi-fi is available throughout the hotel and is painless to use.
The mini bar is stocked daily for free (except wine and champagne) and as well as all you need to make tea, there's also a cafetiere and good coffee. Perfect to keep you going when you arrive early AM from a 10 hour flight.
The gym is well equipped and there's a decent sized pool.
I wish I could have stayed for days
