“Fantastic location + unique rooms = great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I stayed one night at Courtyard 7, and I was certainly not disappointed. Set in a refurbished hutong just inside the 2nd ring road, it has old-world charm mixed with modern comforts.

One point to note - it can be confusing to get to Courtyard 7. Make sure to tell the taxi drive to drop you off where Gu Lou Dong Road (main road) meets the north entrance of Nan Luo Gu Xiang. Imagine the hutong as a square and the top side of the square is Gu Lou Dong Road. Courtyard 7 is just one street down (parallel) from Gu Lou Dong Road. Remember: normally cars are not allowed to enter the hutong area. I say "normally" because I still see cars and other vehicles in the hutong!

After the hassle of finding Courtyard 7, the staff quickly took our suitcases and showed us our room (superior double). The courtyard is wide and spacious, and the hotel has retained the old-world charms of a hutong for over 300 years. It looks straight out of a kung fu film - all very impressive. To get into my room I have to enter a common "corridor", which is shared with one other room.

The room isn't large but is spacious enough for two persons. The four-poster bed is gorgeous. A desk and some chairs created enough space to put our stuff away. A fridge, kettle (+tea / coffee), hairdryer, bathrobes, umbrella, etc - were all included. There are WiFi routers in every room so it means you get free, reliable and very fast internet - always a big plus!

The bathroom is spacious enough although there is no bathtub. There were some obvious wear and tear but not bad enough that I think the place needs a complete renovation.

The best part of staying at Courtyard 7 is the two huskies which belong to the owner. They are not around all the time but when they are free to roam in the courtyard they add a lovely dimension to this unique hotel. Yaya (female) is slightly aloof; Tyler (male) is a gregarious and affectionate husky who would come up to you for pets. If you are afraid of dogs you can ask the owners to put the dogs away - but honestly if you don't like them, just ignore them and head straight to your room. They will mind their own business!

The vicinity of the hutong is fantastic for exploring. The main street of the hutong is quite commercialised so go off into the alleys to have a true feel of hutong life. It gives you a glimpse of how the Chinese lived here for hundreds of years - all very cool.

Breakfast is buffet-style, and while varied, it isn't much to write home about. Most guests were already at breakfast by 7:15am so be prepared for a few items to be missing at the buffet if you are not a morning person!

Front desk was very polite, and they would help you arrange taxis / driver + car rental for the day / great wall tours if you ask. They also provide postal service. a

In summary, it was a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend this place if you truly want to get a taste of "old Beijing". I will most definitely be back.

How can a hotel be in the middle of a busy hutong district, yet so quiet and full of character? Not sure, but this is a great hotel retreat, with extraordinarily friendly desk staff and good rates. A short 3-minute walk (or less) from your room and you are amidst endless restaurants, shops, etc., in the adjacent avenue. This is truly a great place to stay if you wish to get away from the larger chain high-rise hotels for a change of pace. Would definitely stay again if my wife and I return to Beijing someday!

Room Tip: opt for a room in the rear courtyard area (rooms 16-20) for an even quieter stay, day or night!

1. Location: best possible! Smack in the middle of the best renovated and happening houtong with tons of restaurants, bars, coffee shops.
2. Service: great English-speaking staff, very helpful.
3. Rooms: we stayed in a simple small room. Yes, it's small but charming. Very comfortable bed, great bathroom, heated floors. It's everything you need
4. Last but not the least: the hotel is amazingly beautiful 300 years old courtyard, you can totally feel the history there. And it's maintained immaculately.

Hotel is in a central location in a hutong district. Good breakfast available which we were also offered on the morning we arrived very early, though we had not yet checked in. Evening meals are served but the menu is a little too international. On the first day we were offered a menu for a meal provided by the local travel company which was much more Chinese, and was very good. It would have been of benefit to us if this travel company menu was offered as standard, but unfortunately it was not. Tables and chairs are plentiful in the hotel courtyard to relax.

2 bottles water per day were provided along with minimal tea and coffee. There is minimal traffic noise which is a big bonus in such a busy city. The room had a traditional wooden framed bed which was on the firm side as are most in Chine we found. There are not many sit-down restaurants close by as most of the food on offer is of the snacking variety, but just about sufficient to cater for the 3 evenings that we wanted to dine.

I don't really see the problem with taxi access, as we were dropped and collected on the next street (Luogo Alley) which is less than 1 minute walk away. This is a renovated street which can be quite busy with mainly young people. Watch out for the ubiquitous electric scooters which can take you by surprise.

The walk to Tienanmen square is about 40 mins.

Very kind, very helpful, very knowledgeable staff. All the help you need in English. 400-year history
Breakfast from 7h to 9h30 to accommodate any traveller’s schedule. Also very good restaurant with equally accommodating hours. Sitting outside in any other the courtyards early in the morning, listening to hutongs spring to life, is a very enjoyable experience. This is as close as you can get to hutongs yet private space. They have all the contacts you need for private arrangements to visit Great Wall, etc. Intimate space with just over 20 rooms.

We chose to stay here after reading so many positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Courtyard 7 is located in one of the many hutongs in central Beijing. The owners have managed to retain/renovate all the charm of an 18th century Chinese Courtyard residence.
From the outside of Courtyard 7 there is very little to see from the street, it is only when you walk into the interior you begin to understand what this place is all about. This is the concept of old Courtyard complexes where there is very little to see from the outside.
The Courtyard is not the easiest to find during the daylight and can be a nightmare late at night, just make sure you have a suitable map of the place in your pocket. Note, all street names are written in English as well as Chinese.
We arrived via Andingmen metro station. It's best to walk down Jiaodaokuo St and turn right into Gulou East Street, then turn left into South Luogu Alley. This specific street is not referenced on Google Maps but North Luogo Alley is. Walk down the street until you see the sign pointing to Courtyard 7 on the right side.South Luogo street is a magnet for trendy shops and there are plenty tourists up to 10pm. The street is quite narrow and is often closed off to car traffic so it is mostly pedestrians and scooters only.
The room was excellent with old style solid furniture everywhere. The bed was firm but comfortable. There was no street noise.
There was a reasonable breakfast choice with a chef on hand to cook you an omelet or fried eggs. Toast, cereal, tea, coffee, fried bacon, potato wedges, noodles, and fruit were all available.
If the weather is nice you can eat your breakfast outside or just have a relaxing cup of tea outside your room.
The staff overall were very friendly and helpful.
We booked a tour via the Hotel to the Great Wall (Mutianyu section) for 750RMB for 5 seat car and driver. The price is for the car and not per person so obviously if there is 4 of you it can work out quite a cheaper day out. You pay for the tour by credit card when you checkout.

Room Tip: There are various rooms, mostly all on the ground floor so your choice is dictated by what you origi...

This hotel oozes with old world charm! Located in the heart of one of Beijings hutongs, on a pedestrian only street. The hotel was clean and comfortable and our bed looked like one we later saw in a museum!
