“Old Beijing At Its Best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Staying here was a real treat for me as a single woman traveling in China. Located in the Hutong District, it is situated off what we in the US would call a questionable alley but in Beijing it is part of a lively neighborhood that dates back many years. The boutique hotel offers tiny rooms exquisitely equipped--from WiFI and wonderful shampoo to robes, slippers, a travel adaptor for charging my cell phone, great shower, and an electric kettle for coffee and tea. At breakfast, there were fruits, cheeses, great breads, tea, coffee, vegetables and copies of the China Daily. Just a block down was one of the busiest and noisiest streets in Beijing--and I never heard a sound. Most of the people staying there were from Australia, China, France, and Germany. It was so quiet that I slept more soundly than I thought possible. There is a small bar where you can get a beer or wine. I'd skip the restaurant. It is well-located, safe, and charming--a delightful find. It's it's not the place to stay if you want 5-star atmosphere--but you will get 5-star amenities.

A very nice and well managed hotel located in a hutong in Beijing city centre at north-east to forbidden city.
The house is a tipical building in old chinese style with all room around a courtyard in centre.
Nice old style forniture and a well renewed bathroom.
Staff very kind and efficent, good breakfast with tasty omlette real time prepared.
The experience worth the cost payed, I would return with pleasure

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at Courtyard 7 in Beijing. From the moment we crossed the raised threshold, we were treated to superior personal service and a fabulous, relaxing experience in one of the city's busiest hutongs. Rooms were small but tidy, with fabulous remodeled bathrooms (I particularly loved the fact that some of the original late-Qing stone was visible) and firm but comfy beds. Wifi was available and worked out well enough for us to check e-mail. The hotel also provides free bottled water, and a free breakfast featuring both Chinese and Euro-American foods. Of particular note: the excellent and helpful staff. Staff were able and willing to purchase train tickets for us at very short notice, which I really appreciated. Great little place; nice historical ambiance; steps away from (touristy) shopping. If you walk to the hotel (as we did) - it's a good 15 minutes from the nearest subway station (Beixinqiao) but it is doable. I definitely recommend this place!

We had a 3 week trip to China in August, one week in Bejing and two weeks in Shanghai. We settled for this hotel in Beijing because we wanted to experience the hutongs and more of the culture and the people of Beijing. The location is fantastic in that you can actually walk (if you don't mind walking quite a bit) to the forbidden city and tiananmen square, drum bell tower and a few other sights.
I will mention the service of this place. You will feel very welcome and well taken care of. Every inquiry we had was answered and all apointments we had were executed according to what we had agreed on. This included helping us arrange train tickets to Shanghai, write down street names for the taxi drivers for they don't speak any English, book trip to Great Wall and various pickup / dropoff services and restaurant bookings. They speak English pretty well in the reception, this is something you will learn to appreciate since it can be quite difficult around Beijing even in restaurants and tourist sites. Some of the things were arranged by email which also worked out fine.
Location is fantastic as previously mentioned, you step right out into a narrow alley and just 50 meters to a busy pedestrian street (at times a car will venture in) with lots of shops. A few western tourists, everyone else being chinese tourists. It's a bit of a walk to the nearest subway, and to get taxis you also need to walk to a busier street although not as far as the metro. When you need some quiet time you can stay in the courtyard and it's remarkable how quiet it is considering how close it is to the busy pedestrian street.
It feels quite safe there and we didn't have any negative experiences suggesting otherwise neither in Courtyard 7 or the surrounding area. On the whole we felt very safe in China our entire stay.
Breakfast is adequate and they will make omelets etc on request, we only tried the restaurant one evening. A bit pricey as I recall and nothing special.
Rooms are nice looking, but there was a damp smell probably due to air conditioning. Mattresses were hard, which suited me fine, but my wife had trouble with them and didn't sleep all that well. The free wifi worked fine. We never used the television. Normal toilet and shower.
We stayed in two rooms and a nice touch was that when we returned from Shanghai to stay there the final night they booked us in the same rooms we had before. We had a fifth guest staying with us and they arranged for extra bedsheets etc without any extra charge.
Sometimes people are trying to get in the place to take photograps etc but they are for the most part denied access by the reception, you will need to stay there to get in :) We briefly spoke to some American tourists which they had let in which remarked on why on earth they didn't book in Courtyard 7 instead of the hotel they were staying at.

To sum up, we loved our stay there and would certainly come back.

We feel we do not want to review the Courtyard 7, as if we tell other travellers how amazing our stay was, the next time we visit there will be no rooms available.
We began our 5 week journey with 4 night's at Courtyard 7. From our 12.30am pickup at Beijing airport till the moment we checked out we were made to feel like friends or family rather than customers.
The attention to detail both in the ambience of the property and selection and training of the staff make a stay at Courtyard 7 very memorable.

I had high hopes for this place and was disappointed.

This place was the final hotel of four places we stayed in in China.

Visually the place is lovely and very historic as located in a hutong in an old part of China. But for the price this is the only thing you are paying for and the location in a part of Beijng that reminds me of Camden town in London. Full of mostly teenagers. Great for some but not what we had expected.

The rooms were clean and nice. Decorated in old style furniture. If you are tall good luck with the beds as they are restricted in size.

The breakfast was ok. Very basic and we had expected more , fruit and fried rice. To me the place reminds me of an expensive hostel.

If the price of the accommodation was cheaper then fair enough but it was expensive.

All in all great place if you like history but if you want value for money I cannot stay it was worth it.

Staff were very friendly and nice.

Dear Guests,
First of all, thank you very much for making comments for our hotel. We are sorry that you think our hotel is not good for value. As you know now it is the peak season for tourist, and our hotel only has 19 rooms. The supply falls behind the demand. We have no choice but to raise the price a little bit than the off season. But we are always learning and improving ourselves. We will try our best to make our facilities and our service meet with the price. We welcome you to come back to our hotel again and we are sure we will provide better service for you then!

As coming from Belgium, we had a 6 hour difference. As the hotel is in the middle of a very touristic Hutong street, it is enjoyable to go out after dinner and look at the little shops or just sit outside and see the other, mostly Chinese tourists.
The beds of the hotel are short, about 1m80 long but almost 2 m wide. If you are tall, you can fit in it diagonal. There is no safe in the room, but not really necessary in that place. Western dinner is very expensive and not so good. I would prefer or eating Chinese food here or elsewhere. Breakfast is good.
The typical hutong building and perfect location makes up everything you should found less in this hotel
