“Great hutong experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

I booked this bed and breakfast for our Beijing trip when my parents came to visit me in China and we were all very pleased. While we stayed there at the beginning of November, we made it just in time for the first snowfall in Beijing and the courtyard was quite enchanting in the snow. Regardless of the snow outside, the rooms themselves were easily kept cosy warm and comfortable. The service was excellent and quite helpful. There was a small problem with the drain in our shower and they fixed it quickly while we were away exploring. The breakfast was adequate - nothing too special.

The location in the drum and bell hutong is also wonderful - the only thing that could have been better was transportation getting there. However, since there is now a metro station within a few minutes walk, getting too and from the hotel from other locations is now most likely quite easy!

I have stayed before at Double Happiness, a similar hutong hotel in Beijing. I have to give the nod, between the two, to Courtyard 7. I think it is probably a bit more expensive, but its location is better and the courtyard more open and genuinely relaxing.

That said, I'd happily stay in either one again. It is delightful, after a day of sightseeing in frantic traffic, air pollution and general mayhem, to return to such peaceful spots. The staff was great. Our rooms, the smallest/least expensive available (originally reserved for the hutong family's "unmarried sisters") were more than adequate. The breakfast is very good.

For the price I cannot imagine doing much better.

Me and my partner stayed here for 4 nights in April and loved it! Having been to Beijing 4 times prior and always staying in western hotels, the Courtyard 7 gives you a taste of ancient Chinese lifestyle in the Hutongs. The rooms are refurbished with modern amenities and are very comfortable. We stayed in the standard room which are slightly small, but have everything you need. The staff and extremely helpful and speak very good english. Best of all you are right in the Hutongs! Highly recommended

We spent a week there in december 2012. The rooms are cozy and traditional-looking (we had a heated floor, excellent for the winter). The staff was very very helpful for all the questions we had (food/restaurant reservations, directions, taxi/tours to the great wall, shopping, attractions) and speak a good level of english for this part of the world. The hotel is located in a "hutong" neighborhood, right next to a market street that has lots of shops and vendors and close to many of the top-rated tripadvisor restaurants (black sesame kitchen (5 min walk), dali courthouse (10 min walk), Saveurs de Corée (2 min walk), DaDong Duck (20 min bike). Many of the city's top attractions are very close alos.
Even if the hotel is in a busy area, the place is very quiet.
The hotel lends bicycles if you can handle the Beijing traffic and want to move fast.
Breakfast (mix of western and traditional food) is included. Not a big selection, but just enough to get around.
The taxis cannot enter the "hutong" because it has such small streets.
The closest metro is Beixinqiao and is about 15/20 minute walk.

Overall great experience, would recommend and come back.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny

We've been touring around China for the last couple of weeks and I have to say Courtyard 7 has even by far the best hotel. The staff are extremely helpful and their English is very good. Nothing is too much of a problem either.

The hotel itself is typical for a Chinese Hutong with all rooms looking onto the courtyard. It is brilliantly located just off the main and popular Hutong road with plenty of restaurants, food stalls and shops to entertain yourself. The drum tower is also within walking distance as is one of the nice lakes.

Despite being in such a busy area it i extremely quiet inside the courtyard. We slept brilliantly all three nights. The bed seemed hard at first but actually it was absolutely fine (hard beds are normal in China). The bathroom and shower were also great as was breakfast.

The only problem we found was getting a taxi as they don't go up the Hutong streets and hailing one from the Main Street was quite a problem as there weren't that many and the ones that did drive past had people in them. This isn't the hotels fault though as we didn't ask them for a taxi.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Beijing.

The staff here greeted us warmly at the start of our four-night stay and carefully took the time to guide us to our room through the various courtyard entrances/exits. Arriving at our room, we received a thorough overview of the various amenities. The staff’s english was excellent and breakfast was superb.

Courtyard 7 is just off a side street of one of Beijing’s most popular hutong’s that features plenty of restaurants and stores in an environment that is safe to wander around late at night.

We found our standard room to be remarkably quiet and peaceful – we often forgot that we were in the middle of a city and right next door to a hutong. However, you can hear your neighbors coming back to their rooms if its late at night but this is a small price to pay. The room itself was very comfortable although be aware that the mattress is very firm (not unusual for overseas travel). There was no closet but the room had plenty of drawers and a renovated large bathroom that provided an uninterrupted supply of hot water. Used toilet paper goes in a small trash can by the toilet so as not to clog the sewer system but no worries since it’s emptied every day.

Breakfast at Courtyard 7 was great and offered a variety of Western and Asian options both hot and cold. This included an omelet/egg station, fresh fruits, yogurt, bread selection, and coffee/tea/juice.

Used this hotel during a business trip in April 2013. The hotel is perfect for business in combination with experiencing some of the Chinese culture in Beijing. Very helpful and friendly staff! It was even possible to leave our luggage for more than a week while traveling to other parts of China.
