“Lots to love”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

First, I'll confess that IHG is one of my favorite brands. This hotel did not disappoint. It's within a couple of blocks' walking distance from Olympic Park, which is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening.

The hotel also has a well stocked breakfast buffet with a wide array of Western and Chinese items, including cooked-to-order omelets, pancakes, French toast, pastries, hot and cold cereals, dumplings, and more.

The rooms are showing a bit of wear, but the beds were comfortable (not quite as hard as standard Chinese beds) and the views of Olympic Park were superior.

The staff speaks good English and was more than willing to assist with booking excursions.

The airport is about 30 minutes away.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the Water Cube are worth the extra expense if you can secure a high floor. We s...

I came back to InterContinental Beichen because I loved the hotel from my previous stays. Hotel is right across from the Beijing Olympic Game Water Tube. It is also close to the universities district. Room is big and everything was comfortable.

However I am very disappointed with my stay this time. Security check was arranged at the hotel lobby, you will be checked and searched in and out the hotel. Security checking staff are rude and unprofessional, they might or might not check you depend on the time and their mood. So what is the purpose? You don't feel you are coming "home" more like staying in a jail.

Breakfast chefs behind counters are really rude, they hardly care what do you want. I don't understand why they are there if they hate the guests and their job that much. It was constant for couple of days.

It was chaotic all round during our stay. Rumours around hotel there is a Korean Pop star staying. The whole hotel was in chaos, so disorganised. The lobby feel like a market. I definitely don't want to be around there. I have been to other hotel dealing with famous people, but nothing like this one. I think the hotel management need some training for how to manage a K Pop star staying! It was definitely uncomfortable couple of days.

I arrived very late (2,30 am) at hotel, check in was uneventful. Staff ask me do I need my welcome fruits at the time (IHG platinum member), I responded that there is not rush, tomorrow is fine. Well It was near arrival until I mention to someone. Of course I don't feel welcomed at all. Wifi should be free for Platinum member but it was always on my bills and i have to tell the check out staff twice to take out from the bill.

It was not all negative, we had a wonderful staff at Concierge named Ray Yuan. He was wonderful, very professional and helpful. Our flight to Harbin was cancelled due to the bad weather in Harbin. We have to come back to the hotel and stay one extra night. Ray was very helpful to organise our train tickets (12 tickets). He also organised morning train station drop off and pack up breakfast for the group. Thank you Ray, you are truly wonderful.

It was truly disappoint, chaotic and uncomfortable stay at this hotel. I will not come back here soon!

Room Tip: Unless you have to stay here!

Thank you for your feedback on your experience during your recent stay, which was not aligned with your expectation. We fully understand your concern and do apologize for the inconvenience we caused to you and other customers during your recent visit. We unfortunately were imposed with security measurements during a high profile conference, which we could not avoid. Please rest assured that we will handle this different in the future. We look forward to have you back "home" soon and make amend with a great stay.

We stayed overnight at the Intercontinental so as to be close to the airport for our following morning's flight home. The bedrooms, while comfortable, are stark and do not have that cozy feel to them; however, our room did overlook part of the Olympic complex and we were able to see the"cube" - the aquatic center. At night the lights of the facility change color; the setting is really spectacular! We ate in the Italian restaurant there with friends, but the place was almost empty, which was surprising for a Saturday. One aspect that did bother me was the odor emanating from the bathrooms on the restaurant floor. I don't know what the problem was but it was not good. The next morning we just wanted coffee and rolls, but all was geared toward a full brunch. A very pleasant employee directed us to a Starbucks in the mall adjacent to the hotel, so we were able to get the items we wanted. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Even so, I think I would rather return to our favorite hotel in Beijing itself.

Spent 8 very comfortable nights here on a business trip to beijing. Customer service and attention received, particularly from the girls in club intercontinental and staff at the fitness centre, were exceptional. Always courteous with a smile and enquiry if there was anything else they could get me. The standard of english from staff was fine. The bed was very comfortable, room spacious and fittings of high quality as expected from an intercontinental hotel. Location is perhaps not the most ideal for sight seeing in beijing, although there is a shopping centre and subway station within 5 min walk. It takes ~40 mins and 2 line changes to get to downtown beijing but is ridiculously cheap (2 RMB regardless of distance travelled). Highly recommend this intercontinental particulary if you have business to conduct nearby.

Thank you for taking the time to post your constructive feedback. We are delighted to know that our staff is helful during your stay. We appreciate your feedback on hotel location. Although we are not in the centre of Beijing, our Concierge is well in the know of providing our guests with sightseeing insights within the neighborhood and in shorter distance of the hotel, what often helps our convention and meeting guests with limited available time. We look forward to welcome you back again soon.

Only bad thing I could say about this hotel is the location, which is not particularly in the central district of Beijing , no shops around or touristy sites are all far off, as the hotel is literally situated where the Olympic park area, with the national stadium and birds nest stadium and water cube swimming arena 1 minute away.

Rooms are nice and comfortable, not complaints. Very good stay if you like a nice and quiet holiday!

Thank you very much for sharing this valuable facts with our travel community. What concerns location, we know that this depends on the area you would like to stay. The hotel is conveniently interconnected with the China National Convention Center (CNCC), within walking distance of Beijing International Convention Centre (BICC), which facilities MICE Groups and individual guests greatly. In addition the new subway lines are connecting the hotel with all major city destinations. We kindly suggest you to contact our professional Concierge team to get more destination infomation before next stay. . We are looking forward to have you back soon.

In the area of the 2008 Olympics. Adjacent to China National Convention Center (venue for the conference I attended). This is not a convenient location relative to a typical tourist or business agenda (1.5 hours to Tiananmen Square or the CBD in heavy traffic, which is most of the time), and there is very little of interest in the immediate area. Even restaurants are a long walk or a cab drive away. There is a nearby metro stop, but it's two changes of train to get downtown.

The hotel itself is very nice, with comfortable, quiet rooms that are kept immaculate. They change linens daily unless you insist they don't. The included buffet breakfast is very good, with many different selections from most any cuisine (the home-made yoghurt was excellent and unexpected). But the servers seemed very gifted at not noticing that you were asking for coffee, juice, or a refill. The onsite restaurants that I tried all provided good food (even the bar food was a cut above); the on-site Chinese restaurant is very expensive, but I have to admit that the food was exquisite.

Most of the desk staff do not speak good English, and their service needs improvement. At check-in, they told me I would have to move to a different hotel two days before my scheduled departure, despite a confirmed, prepaid reservation. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told he was busy. When I insisted, I was told he would call me, which he never did. Ultimately, I did not have to move, because I was stubborn, but others in our group were made to move. The concierge was perfunctory. They were happy to arrange over-priced private tours from a brochure that included lots of mandatory shopping, but anything more customized was beyond either their capabilities or their interest. The service of the lobby and restaurant staff is not up to the Intercontinental brand's standard, despite the high prices. By contrast, the room attendants were cheerful, diligent, and some of them spoke better English than the desk staff.

If you need to be at the CNCC or a nearby business, this is the place. Otherwise, try somewhere nearer downtown.
