“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

A very nice hotel, with very good restaurants large and exceptional decorated rooms. The only problem is the location that is a bit away from the city center.

It's normally a great experience in Beijing at the Intercontinental. However this trip, the hotel pickup from the airport fell thru, my hotel room door worked sporadically, and the dinner selection at the restaurant was of mediocre quality. Breakfast at the restaurant is very good. The hotel staff are always very friendly and helpful. The gym is great and seems to be open around the clock. The location is a bit out of the way, but wonderful if you have never seen the birds nest olympic stadium - that's only a short walk away. The rooms are very comfortable & quiet.

This hotel is very good, the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are clean and have a lot of space. The location is perfect. Close to the exhibition center and the Olympic stadions. I absolutely recommend this hotel. And when in the future I have to go to Beijing for business again I will definitely choose for this hotel again. The staff is also very helpfull and their english is good.

This well appointed hotel sits next to the Olympic park of Beijing. That said it sits near little else. There is absolutely nothing within walking distance, no stores, restaurants of note (McDonald's is) or anything. Thus, you cannot buy much water, gum, a snickers etc... except from the hotel at inflated prices.

The rooms themselves are comfortable with a modern look and modern features. The TV has about 6 English language channels so its not just BBC and CNN. The internet worked well by Chinese standards. The bathroom is large and has a waterfall shower with a separate tub. The bed and bed linens were very comfortable. It was quiet. The breakfast buffet was ample and varied.

While the hotel is 5 star in terms of facility and amenities I do have some issues.

1. Nobody spoke English competently. We had trouble at the breakfast buffet, the bar, the lounge, the Chinese restaurant and the bellman. This was annoying. Even basic words like coffee, 1 or 2, beer, rice and water were confusing to the staff.
2. At the spa no receptionist is present, the staff hide out in an office. My appointment started 15 minutes late though it was empty.
3. The Chinese restaurant is very average, usually Chinese staples are good in China but not here. Service was horrid.
4. The beer is not cold anywhere on property.

That said for business travelers wishing to avoid Beijing traffic and working in the north area this is a good choice. When it suits my plans I will return.

Room Tip: They are all the same the water cube view is not special its big and blue for a few hours.

Well appointed hotel next to the Olympic park. Everything you would expect from a high quality hotel, except atmosphere which as lacking due to a limited number of guests. the Italian restuarant is excellent as good as anything I have experienced before and should be visited during any stay.

stay for 3 days for business at exhibition centre. The locationof hotel is good for our main activity ( the conference in national exhibition centre ). But little far to go to town or interesting place. However the public transport is good so you were easily to get to whatever place you want to go.
the room is spacious. and well organize. The set up is good and simple.
The service is excellent. ( except during check in - the staff had difficulty in explaining about the facilities in english at counter. But other staff can communicate well ) especially the duty manager at that day - name Miss Sarah Ng.
very good security.
The room service also good.
suggestion - can give free internet access to hotel guest that stay more then 2 day.

Room Tip: the rooms on the south side are quiteer

I have stayed there for numerous nights on business and leisure occasions.

Arrival experience:
Friendly greeted by very helpful bellboys, my luggage was brought to my room immediately.

Check-in:
Very friendly check-in agent had my key ready already. Quickly shown to my room.

Room:
My studio suite is a very spacious junior-suite style room with separate seating area in the bedroom. Large couch and two comfortable chairs. Great office space with all office necessities like stapler provided. Very comfortable king size bed with pillow menu. Large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, one sink. Elemis toiletries. Huge walk in closet with enough space for a family. Excellent views over the Olympic grounds, bird nest and Aqua center.
Decent minibar with a good white and red wine each.

Turndown service with fresh towels, good-night story and a little plush panda bear that my nices will certainly enjoy.

Executive Lounge, Club InterContinental:
Excellent service offer en-par with most other InterContinentals in the Asian region. Not very busy, and very attentive and friendly staff. Staff knew our drink choices and everything was prepared as soon as we entered the club.
Good breakfast spread, with eggs made to order, Chinese breakfast options. Happy hour consists of an above-average, substantial hors d'oevres including at least four hot options. Great open bar with many choices of wine and champagne.
Convenient business center in the Club lounge.

Staff:
Every member of staff was very friendly and courteous with a can-do attitude. Even our room maids spoke basic English which makes communication easier and it is not standard throughout 5*s in China.

Dinner/Lunch:
Lunch and dinner buffet at the restaurant on first floor. Good value for a very sumptuous buffet (particularly at lunch time). Great Italian restaurant.

Common areas:
Kept immaculately. Impressive lobby with spiral staircase.

Location:
Yes, this is outside the hustle and bustle of Beijing. As a regular to this city, I love staying outside the city center:
- Taxis. There is always a taxi available. In downtown parts of Beijing this is not the case; a wait of 15 mins or more is standard for Chaoyang hotels. However, I have never had problems getting a cab at this hotel.
- Accessibility from airport is excellent. Since third (and even fourth) ring is avoided, you can conveniently detour the traffic madness to the airport.
- The Olympic grounds are beautiful, and the Olympic forest park, about 20 to 30 mins by foot of one metro stop, are a 'hideaway', away from the hectic downtown.
- There's a metro station close by, which makes accessing downtown fairly convenient: It took us around 40 minutes to get to Dongdan.
- There are several shops and dining options in walking distance.
- Chaoyang district is easily accessible by taxi; it took about 20 mins to get there.

Status recognition, I'm highest tier at InterContinatal hotels, and was warmly welcomed. Upgrades were more than "in the book".

Overall, I can only recommend this hotel - maybe not for the first time tourist in Beijing, but certainly those that don't need to be close to Tian'an or Chaoyang.
