“Ticks most of the boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

The lay out of this hotel is a little eccentric. You take an elevator from the ground floor to the 63rd floor lobby. A different bank of elevators take you down to the bedrooms and the gym. And a third set of elevators take you from the 63rd floor to the restaurant and bar on the 65th and 66th floor.

The hotel corridors are all mood lighting and done up in quite restful and tasteful browns and beiges. The rooms are well appointed, controlled by electronics which are reasonably user friendly. The beds are comfortable...firm but not hard. The large bath is set in a somewhat open plan aspect, partly behind glass and partly open to the rest of the bedroom. The adjacent shower absolutely drenches you. Recommended.

The gym is quite well equipped, but too warm. The China Grill on the top floor is a multi-level warren of a restaurant which was very good for dinner, but fairly ordinary for breakfast. Service was friendly but slow - except reception which was very efficient.

The views are good on those days when you can see beyond the next building.

This is a good business hotel without feeling at all corporate

On arrival we went first to the 6th floor bar which also has an outdoor deck area. To gain entrance customers have to pass through an airport style security detector. The security woman was incredibly rude. Whilst I fully appreciate secuity is important there is basic common courtesey of which this woman did not possess one solitary ounce.

As the music (live band and not particuarly good) was incredibly loud we decamped up to the Grill bar on the upper floor which provided the most stunning views across Beijing. The service was slow, unfriendly and settling the bill took an eternity.

As an international hotel chain Hyatt Management do really need to address customer service. We would have stayed longer but the surely staff put us off.

We had the great fortune to stay when the city wasn't emersed in dense smog, so from the start the views from the lobby on the 65th floor are impressive - you can see all the way to the mountains. The room (we stayed in a suite) was beautiful, good views, large living area, power blinds, wonderful bathtub with more than enough room for two people sitting side by side... What lets the hotel down is services, that are good but not consistently great. When asking the concierge for directions around town and where to go, it was too vague (I started the conversation by saying a wanted to talk to the concierge, and the man who then gave me help at a level I'd expect from a regular front desk staffer rather than a concierge). Prior to my arrival I had contacted the concierge to book a great wall trip and they'd been helpful, so this was disapointing. At china grill at breakfast water was not from a bottle and was included (the breakfast was good but expensive at $45 if it isn't included in your rate), yet at dinner bottled water was the only option and it was apparently $15/bottle - the price was not disclosed, and they opened the second bottle without asking which I felt was a rip off (would a restaurant bring you a $15 martini without your input and expect you to pay?). The hotel is above a subway station, which is good because the cab situation is a disaster. One night the doorman put us in three separate cabs to get us to a well known restaurant (Dadong) but had to ask us to get back out of two of them because they had a miscommunication with the driver. If the city has poor cabs, the hotel needs to expand its car service (I asked them about this after getting out the first time and it did not seem possible). The butler service provided no clear benefits, and the 15% gratuity that was added to the to room rate at check out was both overpriced and not transparent (I.e. I was not aware of it until checkout). Perhaps my expectations were too high, the hotel is beautiful but this was not quite up to the level I expected from a Park Hyatt in Asia.

The park Hyatt Beijing was my first port of call for the first time in China. Located in a luxury mall, there are probably very few place which feel less Chinese than this hotel located in the upper floors of a tall tower overlooking Beijing. You get a great view after a rainy day when the air is clean. The rooms are large and decorated with style (in contrary to many other places in China which tend to be flashy), the bar in great, the breakfast awesome, although very pricy ($50 in summer 2013). A place I would be happy to go back on a private stay. Can only be recommended.

Fancy hotel with nice big rooms (although light switches are impossible to figure out and I'd prefer a normal toilet to the "computerized" version they have here). Be aware that extras will cost a lot in this hotel--laundry, room service, etc. The hotel staff is also quite inflexible about pricing and service and will not go the extra mile at all to accommodate guests. For example, I asked if they could iron a shirt within a couple of hours (something that other hotels do all the time) and they insisted they would charge me exorbitant "express" fees for that. I was also declined a late checkout. Also, I was a bit turned off by the way the staff quite aggressively asked for tips even though there is already a substantial service charge on the room service bills.

Location might be good for people with business in the vicinity, but otherwise there is nothing else in the neighborhood--kind of a dead area.

I have been here only 24 hours but this is a fabulous hotel. It is convenient and the concierge can arrange anything you need. The food at both breakfast and dinner was both delicious and innovative. Eastern and Western appetites will enjoy the menu. The fitness area was perfect. It seemed a little small for the size of the hotel, but it wasn't crowded at all. I leave in a few more days but this hotel deserved and early review.

Love this hotel. Right in the middle of everything and great staff. Most of the staff speaks English for the people who do not speak Chinese. They have a nice lounge/bar/club downstairs which has a very nice vibe to it. The suites here are absolutely outstanding. They have rainforest style showers and the beds are super comfy! The breakfast buffet here is pretty good as well. They have an half American style and half Chinese style breakfast. Great stay would def go back here again!
