“Nice change of pace!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

I had the lunch buffet for 68RMB which was excellent. Arrive early, especially if you have more than 3 people in your group. Arrived at 11:30, the place was already filling up quickly. By the time I left at 12:30, there was a wait for groups of 4-5, smaller groups were seated with others at the large tables.

The food was excellent, most "meat" dishes were various forms of bean curd. There were plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. I nice surprise was the extensive dessert selection. Most (maybe 3/4) of the dishes were labeled in Chinese and English which helped in figuring things out.

Staff was very friendly.

On the "Imperial College Street" which is quite interesting, visiting the restaurant combines well with a visit to the Confucious Temple across the street and the Llama Temple down the street. All are close to the subway.

If you like to have a change from meaty Chinese food. This place is for you. You can choose buffet with variety of food either a la carte menu. There is desert and drink from buffet too. We eat too much because food is very nice. Staff is very helpful too.

“Best food I had in China”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

I loved this place. The buffet was great, so many great vegetarian dishes. Great value for what you get. I would highly recommend this place for both vegetarians and meat eaters.

“Best vegetarian restaurant in Beijing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

It is just amazing . The food is excellent , staff is friendly and you can try a lot of new dishes and tastes. I am not a fan of fake meat or fish, But there is enough choice.
Nice atmospere. A relief in China because sometimes it is difficult to find vegetarisme food.

“Best place to take friends who are red meat eaters!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Xu Xiang Zhai is in a historic location near the Temple to Confucius (Guozijian) and the Lama Temple (Yonghegong), both well worth visiting. The lunch buffet (open until 2pm) offers great variety and quantity of conventional-seeming Chinese food, for a very reasonable price. The restaurant is elegant and clean and the service is good. Best of all, you can take red-meat eating friends along and tell them afterwards that they're been eating flavoured bean curd. They may not believe you!
