“loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

I went to Mombasa and stayed here from the 26th of may to the 2nd of june and loved it.I had read some not so good reviews on here before arriving but ignore them because although this hotel may not be 5 star I enjoyed it a lot the staff are the kindest people you`ll ever meet and its a great place to stay.i,'m 15 and therefore thought there would'nt be much do but I was pleasently surprised , my dad and brother went scuba diving and we also had one day out to Haller park and although it's not massive it was still great and we fed the giraffes which was amazing Stacey was our Thomson rep and she was lovely , another person I have to mention is mercy ,she is in charge of he dining hall and was so funny and friendly if your thinking of staying here its highly reccomended by me ,big thumbs up :)

Room Tip: Apparently the rooms on the right side (fishermans cave side) are bigger and slightly newer

Just back from a week's stay at Bamburi Beach Hotel and have very mixed feelings about the place.

The good.
The staff are very friendly and helpful
The food is OK
The whole place is clean
Service is very good

The not so good.
The check out time is a very early 10 am
Safety
The place is a serious accident waiting to happen
There was a small explosion and fire in the restaurant and one of the hotel staff was burned and taken to hospital. If anyone had been getting food at the time they also would have ben burned
Drinks are served in glasses at and around the pool bar. On several occasions glasses were broken so that anyone could have found themselves walking on broken glass. Some must have gone into the pool
The "All inclusive" deal is really a "Not so ALL inclusive", it is almost comic that while you can get endless glasses of wine, gin and tonics, rum and coke's etc, you have to BUY water and ice creams. Although you are able to have a water bottle re-filled at the bars it just seems like madness to make such a silly saving when they might as well put a little extra on the cost of the holiday and be properly "All inclusive"

All in all had a great time in Kenya and met some wonderful people at the hotel but I would never take children as I would be too concerned for their safety

It is a shame that the wonderful staff are let down by dangerous working conditions for them and the guests, I sincerely hope that they improve this very soon and fulfill the wonderful potential of such a well placed and friendly hotel

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a great view but are not suitable for anyone who wants an early night as the noi...

I spent 4 nights there it was not bad, the place is old but clean, rooms are basic but clean and tidy, the Beach dock is nice the sand beach is nice but you can’t sun bathe there as there are a lot of salesmen hanging around , swimming pool is too small.
Food is plenty in quantity and variety but nothing special.
I was there in business and I feel out of place as most of guests were retired people enjoying the sun and water.
I would say it is an average Hotel, one thing I did not understand why should I Pay $ 18 for the small safe at my room?!!

We stayed for a week at the Bamburi Beach on the 11th May. We had a great experience, very friendly and helpful staff who couldn't do enough for you. We had a sea view room which was great! There was a variety of food, with a grill restaurant included as part of the price and we had 20% off the Fishmonger's Cave which was nice for a change and good value. We went on safari with JT Safaris during our stay and couldn't recommend them highly enough! All in all a great place to stay especially for a first time visit to Kenya.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room on a high floor for the best views.

Although I didn't stay at the hotel, I used the pool and facilities every day. The staff were so friendly. I was there alone and they made me feel so welcome and looked out for me. The facilities were always clean and the food was lovely and it was right on the beach with clear blue water and white sands.

Please don't be put off by negative reviews of these place. It's a excellent standard 3* hotel that suited all our needs.

Rooms - rooms are pretty basic but clean and spacious. Air conditioning is excellent, hair dryers are provided. You do have to pay for a safety deposit box which is about £14 for the week. There is a TV but the reception is rubbish with only a few English channels. TV does have a DVD player so take some DVDs if you are a tv person.
Rooms are cleaned every day with fresh sheets and towels.

Food - excellent variety am quality of food. Good vegetarian and salad selection. Lots of currys and red meats. There was always something for everyone.
Main restaurant is buffet and there is a snack restaurant the does amazing pizza and steak sandwiches.
There is another restaurant that does fish mainly but is not included in the all inclusive however guests get 20% off, we didn't visit here as we found the variety in the other 2 restaurants plentiful.

Beach/pool - there are 2 pools which were both spotlessly clean, we had no trouble getting a subbed every morning and the hotel don't let the Germans reserve them which is fab!
The beach is a little daunting at first as there Re a lot of beach boys trying to sell you safaris and trips but they are all very friendly, just ensure you don't make empty promises of booking as they remember! If our not interested just say no and they will leave you alone.
The beach is beautiful but no one sun bathes there really.

Sarafi - we booked from the UK with a company called Glorious Safaris - we did a 2 day 1 night safari for £194pp this included pick up from hotel, a private jeep, 1 night stay at salt lick game lodge and 3 game drives. All food was included the only thing you needed to pay for was drinks. I would 100% recommend this company - the service we received was top class from start to end!

Weather - we went at the end of May and the weather was glorious, bright sunshine every day with rain only 1 night for about 5 minutes. It was around 39 degrees every day and the sun is very powerful!

Location - transfer time was around 30 minutes. To get to salt lick safari was around 3 hours.
Mombasa town about 15 mins away.

Staff - the staff are the friendliest, happiest bunch I've ever come across. Stacey the first choice rep is amazing and really can't do enough for you.
Must do's -

Safari - you must do this you would be mad not to
HAller park - this is a wildlife park where you can feed giraffes, crocs and hippos. Entrance is about £12 and it's 5 mins from the hotel. Great day out
REAL Kenya - make sure you leave the hotel and see the real Kenya. We went to a little village and saw how the locals lived and to the local school and it really was a amazing experience. Take some clothes, pens, toys as the kids are so poor and are so grateful for anything they can get.

All in all this hotel is a good quality 3* hotel with a excellent location and excellent staff.
Kenya is a beautiful country that I totally fell in love with and it really was a trip of a lifetime.
