I'd never eaten in the same restaurant rhree times in a fortnight before, but that6's what happened to me here. Fabrizio (with his father) runs this new addition to the Bamburi Beach scene with passionate enthusiasm, and constant attention to detail. He's ever-present and more than willing to explain everything, from staff training principles to the composition of each of the Sicilian (from Taormina) dishes served. This is all about authentic home-cooked quality Italian food, something which the many other places in the area aspire to, but do not consistently reach. You pay a little more and as all the wines have to be Italian, there isn't yet a cheap house wine. Fabrizio needs to find one!
The restaurant is large enough to offer plenty of space between tables, without sacrificing a cosy and comfortable feeling; the background music is more sophisticated than the usual pop muzac and the staff are all welcoming and helpful.
Our favourite dish was tender cod fillet on a bed of mashed potato, together with a few large prawns, all delicately flavoured, tasty and nicely-presented. I also tried a pizza, customising it with my own favourite topping of Parma ham. But perhaps the piece de resistance proved to be the freshly-made tiramisu, which we regretted sharing, instead of having one each!
We felt it was a privilege to eat at Giardino - I can say nothing more.
