This is the luxury tented camp experience that you read about. It doesn't feel much like camping when your tent has a large comfortable double bed, electricity and hot showers. Open the front flap, and you can view abundant wildlife from your front porch. We saw elephants, hippos, giraffes, mongoose, warthogs, baboons and cape buffalo along with dozens of species of birds without even leaving the property. They provided hours of entertainment while we enjoyed lovely meals outside and drinks at the bar. The service is outstanding from the initial greeting and drive in from the airstrip to the return for our departure. However, I have to single out a few for their outstanding service. Charles, our tent attendant, kept our tent in order and always arrived at the crack of dawn with a warm smile and cheery hello with our tea and biscuits. Stanley, our waiter, made sure to attend to our every need at each meal and Simon, the bartender, managed our favorite hangout in the camp and was always ready with a something cool to drink after our dusty game drives. We took a beautiful balloon ride in the early morning that was breathtaking, and the flight was followed by a champagne breakfast outside by the river. However, the highlight of our stay was the game drives. I can't say enough about about driver, Jackson. We had the "rock n' roll" safari going every time we headed out. We gave him a list of everything that we wanted to see, and he delivered on each one of them, usually with multiple sightings!! His knowledge of the area and the animals was outstanding. He even entertained us with tales of local folklore of some of the animals. The time seemed to fly by whenever we were "rockin n' rollin" with "Action Jackson" in our safari jeep. I definitely recommend the breakfast in the bush so that you can spend an entire morning out in the Mara. Enjoying a delicious meal with the expanse of the landscape and the wildlife before you is an experience that you don't want to miss. I look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: We were in tent #1, which was at the beginning of the 17 tents. We had excellent viewing of the mar...

We booked this lodge for our honeymoon after getting married on Diani beach. We booked through WT safaris who are based in diani. We paid them 40% deposit in the uk and was picked up at our hotel and taken to their office to pay the balance and discuss the itinerary.
On the day we were picked up at 7:30am by WT and driven to Ukunda airstrip that was less than a 5 min drive from our hotel, diani sea resort. We quickly went through security and within half an hour of leaving the hotel had taken off!! Our plane was small and carried 14 passengers. The flight was very good and took just over 2 hours. After an hour of flying we passed mount killiminjaro which was an experience to see it covered in snow!! We flew with MAS. Mombasa air safari.

We arrived at govenors airstrip after 1 other stop. On arrival we was met by our driver and had a short 15 minute drive to little govenors. Along the way we seen baboons, buffalo, warthogs, Giselle, elephant and giraffe before we checked in!! We then had a short 5 minute walk including a very short river crossing to get to the camp.
We were given cool flannels and a cool drink, checked in very efficiently and given times of meals and game drives. We were taken to our tent which was amazing!!

Tent

We had a table and chairs outside where we could sit and watch all the animals around us. We had a good size double bed , chairs and a large bathroom with huge shower!! The tent is amazing you don't need to carry any keys with you as there is no locks on the tents but if you have anything valuable there is a safe in reception to put stuff in ! In the evenings there is a torch on a side table which you use by flashing it out so a guard can make sure you get to where you want to go! One of the major things I loved about this hotel was that it was open and you fall asleep listening to the wildlife our last night we fell asleep listening to elephants, hippos and lions you can't get more amazing than that !!

We went to the bar for a drink before our afternoon game drive. We also visited reception where we made use of the free wifi that was surprisingly quite quick!! Whilst there we were asked to complete a disclaimer for our balloon safari (see separate review) and met Peter one of the pilots!! Water is given free of charge on game drives and at the camp including bottles in the tent to brush your teeth.

We crossed back over the river in the afternoon ready for our half 3 game drive. We were met by our driver, Joseph. The drive was amazing!! We seen 4 of the big 5 on this first game drive!!(please see separate review).

Dinner

There are some lovely snacks served in the evening at about 6pm on return from game drives. We had warm home made sausages, pizza, bread sticks & samosas to name a few!! They were all excellent. There was also marshmallow toasting on the fire that was very cosy!!
There is a small choice for dinner with a vegetarian option. If there is nothing on the menu you like the chef is happy to meet up with you to discuss other options. There is always 3 courses available followed by cheese & biscuits then tea & coffee. We were offered a free bottle of wine as we were on honeymoon which was a lovely gesture by the camp. On valentines day there were roses and hearts on the tables and masai dancers to entertain to make the experience even more special.

The following morning we had a wake up call from Stanley, such a friendly guy. He brought us amazing hot chocolate with biscuits which was a perfect start to valentines day. We were escorted at 5:15am, a 5 minute walk to the hot air balloon launch site (please read separate review on govenors balloon safari).
On return we had a light lunch that was again excellent. 3 courses if required. Starters and dessert are waiter service and the main course is buffet style. We then headed out for our afternoon game drive with Joseph that was another excellent experience. The following morning game drive

We never had breakfast at the hotel but did have a picnic 1 morning during our game drive. Joseph our driver set up breakfast on the bonnet of our vehicle. We had sausage, bacon, Quiche, bread rolls, muffins and fresh fruit all served with tea, coffee, water and juice. It was a lovely experience.
Each evening we returned to the tent there would have been a turn down service ready for us to shower and change for the evening. On returning from dinner there would be a hot water bottle keeping the bed warm!! It's quite mild in the evenings but can be cold first thing in the morning so advisable to take warmer clothes.

In a summary a fantastic camp, the best in the mara. A big thank you to George the manager who spoke to us daily, Simon our waiter who kept the drinks and conversation flowing, Julius our waiter, Stanley our wake up call and great bag carrier, Joseph who assisted our crossing of the river and last but not least Joseph our fantastic guide!!!

I stayed at Little Governors Camp from the 18th - 28th of January, It is simply a magical place to stay, every one I met was just so friendly and would go out of there way to please you. Little governors certainly is situated in the most perfect location, the range of animals around you is astonishing, The game drives where great the drivers just always seemed in know where to find what ever we asked to see. I would recommend taking a Hot Air Balloon flight when you visit it is a very unique and magical experience, and one of the most beautiful places in the world to do it. I cant wait to visit Little Governors again!!

Our second visit here in as many years, and greatly enjoyed it once again. It was great to get away from the world, revel in the natural spectacle that is the Masai Mara.

The staff were, once again, amazing. They took great care of us - and my elderly father who needed help getting up and down the steps and in and out of the vehicles.

We saw over 40 lion in 36 hrs - not that we set out to do this - they were just there!

We found the ideal tents for us were # 10 - 15 - quiet, away from the central areas, and surrounded by wildlife.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms 10 - 15 if you like being surrounded by wildlife and away from the main areas.

We couldn't have had a more enjoying trip to Little Governors'.

The staff were fantastic - Duncan in the restaurant was a delightful waiter & ensured we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Our driver Frederick was full of information about all of the animals we saw & tailored each drive to our liking, so that we saw everything we wanted to. George, the site manager was absolutely lovely & so welcoming when we arrived. He checked in with us almost daily to make sure we were having an enjoyable stay.

Tea & biscuits as a 5am wake up call, clean & well serviced tents, delicious food all made for a great base during our honeymoon in what was the most romantic setting. I had a fantastic massage on our balcony whilst two warthogs grazed in the grass by our tent & a family of elephants were settling in the distance- not something you do everyday!

The camp has a beautful setting near marshland which meant hippos, elephants & even a leopard visited during our stay! You are very safe, thanks to the armed guards who patrol the grounds & escort you back to your tents with torches at night.

We were lucky enough to see the Big 5, lion cubs & several kills during our stay and that was all thanks to our driver, who communicated with other drivers consistently so that nobody missed out on any amazing opportunities.

We cannot thank the staff enough for making our honeymoon so special!

I arrived back in England today after my 10 day stay at Little Governors, already I'm planning a return trip. I've been to Africa many times before and visited many places in Kenya at varying times of the year. This though however has by far been my best experience of the fascinating Masai Mara.
The game drives ,The staff, The food and the general overall feeling of the camp amazed me. Nothing was too much trouble, All the staff and guides done their upmost to meet my requirements and in most cases far exceeded my expectations.
You really do feel as if you are a part of the Mara here, A very exciting feeling, Yet made safe by the experienced guards who are there in the background keeping you safe at all times.

I strongly recommend booking a Governors balloon flight, Like I said I have been here before and now wished I'd had done it sooner. I love wildlife and am a very keen photographer and being able to take pictures from the balloon gave me some really interesting images for my latest album. Yes you will have to awake early for this experience, Trust me though it'll be worth it…. I will definitely be booking a second flight on my return visit. I had Captain Pete as my pilot, A really lovely guy. He has a way of putting you at ease because if I'm honest i was a little nervous on the day, Captain Pete however was very professional and I soon realised I was in safe and capable hands. WOW i think sums it up.

When i left the place it was like saying goodbye to family,

Visit Little Governors, You won't regret it.

Loved the river ride leading to the camp!!! This was scenic and enchanting, though the flight of stairs can take ones breath away, (one can also take it positively as good exercise).
Excellent tent, lovely surroundings. It was so nice to wake up to the breathtaking views of the Mara in front of you with various animals roaming and grazing around, such as elephants, hippos, monkeys, warthogs, etc..this camp overlooks the Mara directly.
Our game rides organised by the management were all excellent, we managed to see so many animals except for 'wilder beast' since these have already migrated to the other side. Our game keeper was knowledgeable and pleasant. He did a good job and knew his materials.
The manager was pretty good, no complaint..The food on the whole was sometimes very good and sometimes mediocre, (not to be compared with Loldia house or Mfangano island lodge or TATU in Nairobi). It is buffet style, American influenced, which is not my favorite and in the evenings, they offered us set menus, the choices were pretty good but not amazing. The place has lots of potentials if they only improve/upgrade the catering and in my opinion, they should keep the generator on at all times to ensure continuous running hot water for the shower especially that it gets cold at night.
