“Incredible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Was in Nairobi with my wife who was working for a week and after a few days I realized I was going to have to get out of the city. Heard about the little governors camp from one of my wife's colleagues and was gone. While the TV has great shows about the Mara there's nothing like being there. From the moment we got off the plane we started seeing wildlife.Went on game drives morning and evening and saw everything. Lots of baby animals at the moment. Our guide Jackson was fantastic and went out of his way to find anything we wanted to see. The staff could not have been more helpful and the food and atmosphere were incredible. Will definitely come back when my wife can have time off and accompany me.

Room Tip: If traveling with friends ask for tents next to each other. All tents have fantastic views.

The location is, in itself, enough to recommend, but Little Governors is a great place to come back to after game drives to relax and unwind. Expect that wild animals will be in the camp, but the staff are always on guard and there is never any real danger.
Like most of these locations there is almost never any local cuisine on the menu, which i always think in unforunate.
The staff are friendly and very helpful, if not overly attentive at times.

Room Tip: There are 17 tents, with middle numbers being the tents closest to the camps.

Little Governors was the second camp we were staying at in the Maasai Mara, we were really looking forward to this camp as we had heard fantastic reviews. On arrival we were greeted by a tired looking Teresa and escorted to our tent 7, which was next to the dining area and the access area to many other tents, this was noisy and unpleasant. The tents are very close to one another.

Our tent had two single beds (we had asked for a double) and the bathroom cleaning service was not completed on arrival. The swamp out the front was ok, attracted a lot of birds and Warthogs were locals at the camp. The staff were always itching for a tip which was very obvious and really turned us off, the camp really needs a refurbishment to charge these prices, even the staff uniforms looked like they needed a decent clean. However the food was good.

We felt like the staff were going through the motions and George the manager was lacking that zest a hotel manager should have. David who was our pilot on the balloon safari was the energy in the place and I hope his character catches on to the other staff.

We really tried to like this place but unfortunately it was not up to the standard. I have posted a review about Karen Blixen Camp and will be posting a review on il Moran, camps that are energised warm and offer that extra special touch.

We stayed here for 2 nights.

Room Tip: Avoid staying near the dining area as they can be loud, as well the hot air balloons take off from b...

I had been to camp on 4th & 5th August. I had read and heard about this site. But disappointed to services by camp manager as no requested tent was made available. It was kept empty for some ? africans than they had given us. No indian food was available inspite of special request made on the booking by tour operators.. The resort manager tried to accomodate into others vehicle for game drive but bowed down when papers were shown to him.
So not much good experince with resort like Serena or Sarova properties in Kenya.
Indian travellers are requested to confirm everything on paper before going to this resort especially the food.
apart from good location near a waterhole no good things to write about.
Peter the guide was very good.

Room Tip: You won't get what you want inspite of you request so no advice.

Perfect accommodation for a safari in the Masai Mara. The staff were very friendly. The tents were very well equipped and our room steward took care of us very well. The location next to a well visited waterhole was wonderful. Yes if you are a light sleeper the animal noises, particularly those of the hippos as they graze around the tents at night might be a disturbance but we enjoyed the noises of the night knowing that we were guarded very well by the staff. The games drives were very well organized and we did enjoy picnic breakfasts out on the Savannah. One morning our picnic was next to a waterhole with 15 hippos wallowing. The balloon safari is not to be missed with awesome views of the wildlife on the savannah followed by breakfast set up on the plain. The food was very good. We plan on returning to Little Govenors in a couple of years to let our grandchildren enjoy this African experience.

Room Tip: We had tent 14 which had good views of the waterhole but I think that any tent in the camp would hav...

First of all – a BIG shout out to Ms. Leah Peter. Leah was so friendly and helpful in organizing our stay at Little Governors’ and our forward travel to the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti parks – THANKS !! What I can say – the “BIG 5” within 24 hours of arrival – Frederick you’re awesome! Although the accommodation and food were good, the Little Governors’ camp stood out for the animals. This is a must stay place for your Safari experience!

Room Tip: All tent's are very nice and comfortable - but its the animals that make the Little Governers Ca...

Amazing game - the Mara really delivered in this respect - a true out of Africa experience. The lodge facilities and food were fine as expected - nothing out of the ordinary but fine nonetheless . However our safari was completely spolit by our guide pushing too hard and getting too close to animals, which left us concerned about the sub standard guiding at this camp and the effect of our game drives on the wildlife. High quality, experienced guides are the most important aspect of a great safari for experienced safari goes like ourselves. I read later that lions are in decline in the Mara because many do not catch sufficient prey (because of the pressure of tourist vehicles overcrowding them) to successfully raise their young - as a result the infant mortality rate is high. Other clients on our vehicle were excited to get so close to wildlife, but for ourselves it left a bad taste in our mouths. There were times when our guide drove right up to lion when there were already many vehicles around them, causing an already congested sighting to become intolerable and the lion to display stressed behaviour traits. We want to see wildlife yes, but not at the expense of their welfare which was the case at this camp. The guide also only pointed out the obvious and had little clue when questioned about the birds and flora we were interested in, leading to a very diluted experience. In short I do not recommend a safari at this camp for the more seasoned safari goer - you will be extremely disappointed.
