Loved the atmosphere - a combination of sophistication mixed with the wild side of Africa. Staff remember your name from the first meeting. Staff show interest in how your day is unfolding and all the exciting animal sightings. The wait staff in the dinning room and lounge were efficient. The best of all was the Safari driver who made certain both sides of the jeep had opportunity for equal photos by turning the vehicle around and positioning for best photos. He turned the engine off to reduce vibration for best photos. He was knowledgeable about the wild life species. He was polite, efficient, and on time.

I celebrated my birthday at the Mara Explorer Camp in August 2013. Of all the parks I have been to, none beats the Masai Mara. Beyond the splendor the park offers, the Mara Explorer Camp does an exceptional job of making you one with nature. From the people, to the tents, to the food, to the environment... it all adds up to an unforgettable experience. Our guide Matthew was amazing. His game spotting and tracking ability is incredible. We saw all the big five except the rhinos. We watched cheetahs hunt, male lions fight for territory and females, wildebeest crossing the river..... all these from a few meters, in our safari jeep. Steve, the manager was not only a great host but also became a great friend. The experience offered by the Mara Explorer Camp can not be expressed by words. I highly recommend that anybody planning to visit the Masai Mara stays at the Mara Explorer Camp. I will definitely be going back!

Room Tip: Noisy neighbors....... the hippos :)

Full Course Meals and big safaris. We did this for 4 days and 3 nights. I can't say how much we enjoyed our stay, We went during the low season and had a wonderful time exploring the Mara and staying at the camp. George was the camp manager and was responsive and talked to us each day. We had the place to ourselves for most of the trip which may have been why the service was so excellent. Rueben was our guide and if you can ask for him. He knows every animal in the Mara and only gets twitchy around the big bull elephant. The only thing I would ding them on would be hard beds. They are tough but I guess what to expect sleeping in a tent. Otherwise the tent and the environment was great. When they tell you to call for an escort at night, believe them. We saw a Hippo track on the ground outside our tent.

Room Tip: Tent 4 is great unless you like to sleep past 4 am. Hippos are really noisy then. Tent 8 was great...

We can not thank stella and her team for the wonderful experience we had camping in the mara explorer. words can not describe the magic and how special we were made to feel during our stay. this is a must for anybody who wants to experience the bush and know the magic of being under canvas at luxury. It was so sad to leave. the night time sounds of the birds and hippos will stay we us forever. we were lucky to catch part of a storm which was a sight to see.

Room Tip: each tent is wonderful and it is so special as only ten tents.

We stayed at 4 lodges/camps on our safari to East Africa and hands down the greatest place we stayed was Mara Explorer. The staff is amazingly helpful and friendly and the food and wine outstanding. Our server for meals Maureen was absolutely wonderful!!

The camp location on the river is the best we experienced and we were lucky enough to get tent 4 which is on the river bend and has a herd of 30+ hippos residing just a few yards from our tent deck – talk about being in the wild!! We had to keep pinching ourselves to remember we weren’t dreaming! We had great fun taking baths in the outdoor tub and watching the hippos watching us - too cool for words!!

Our guide was Reuben and he was fantastic taking the time to show us the little things in addition to the big ones. We saw everything in great numbers - lions, elephants, leopards. cheetahs, servals, crocodiles, giraffes, and the many grazing animals were ever present.

We loved the sharing of days with other guests at the fire pit and the lounge area - the camaraderie was fantastic.

We had the best 3 days of our life and can’t wait to come back.

Explorer location just minutes from the airport is also a plus.

Staying at the Mara Explorer Camp is like having 2 completely different, but amazing, experiences in 1 trip! We went for our honeymoon and believe it was the best trip we could have ever taken. We didn't stop talking about wanting to return with our future children in a few years!

On the one hand, there is the mind-blowing experience that is the safari, which is just incredible. The camp's cars are new and very comfortable and spacious. They provide 3 drives a day, however we recommend that at least on the first morning, you ask the camp to pack your breakfast so that you can have an extended morning drive, and picnic along the Mara river. The morning is the best time to see the animals, there is so much activity and everyone comes out, so it is the optimal time to be out a little longer, to see more. John was a wonderful guide who was full of knowledge and answered all of our questions on the trips. He knew where all the animals were, and towards the end of our trip, focused on our favorite animals-- without us even asking. When he was onto something good, he wouldn't tell us what we were about to see until we arrived to see it ourselves. It always kept the rides suspenseful and incredibly rewarding. He got us within meters of lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, you name it. We had one of the most emotionally and mentally rewarding experiences of our lives thanks to John. It was very sad to say goodbye to him.

Then on the other hand is the impeccable service at the camp, it could not even be improved. We were greeted at the airstrip with wet towels to clean our hands and faces, then brought to the quiet, intimate, and unique camp, situated along gorgeous river scenery. The tents are fabulous, only 10 in the camp, and spaciously placed to provide plenty of privacy between them. It is certainly private enough to take a bath in the outdoor tub without any concern of being seen. Ours was sitting just overlooking a hippo hangout, and they don't make too much noise by the way, it's cute to be near them, not annoying at all. The tents are so clean, so well kept, and because the weather was perfect during our stay, we would leave the tent completely open during the mornings, and we would return from safari to find the staff had zipped it up for us at night. During our dinner, they would place hot water bottles in the bed to warm it up. For our 5:30am wake up call, they would come to our tent to wake us up with a tray of tea and cookies. We couldn't stop giggling at how wonderful the service was!

Power is available during certain hours of the day which we found admirable and Eco friendly. It was off while we were out on safari anyway, so we did not feel inconvenienced at all. However the wifi was too weak to work during our stay, so we had to go to their sister camp, just 5 min away, to check email.

On our first night, we were the only guests, so after returning from our first safari, the staff had surprised us with setting up a table at our tent, and lighting the deck with lanterns. It was so cute and we were so touched. On our last night, the staff mentioned that there was something special for dinner, and when they came to escort us, they led us through this candle lit path to an outdoor bush dinner. It was so nice! We loved how they cared so much to surprise us all the time, we felt so special and loved, in every element of it all!

The meals are also worth mentioning because every meal is at least a 3 course affair. And oh my goodness, so delicious! Every dish, every meal, was better than the last. We left feeling very full and a little fatter :-).

Overall, I can't say enough wonderful things about the camp, you just have to experience it for yourself. It is the most worthy trip.
