Richards Camp is a great place to stay while visitng Kenya and the Mara. They have a knowledgable staff with kind hearts and great personalities. They let you do as little or as much sightseeing/game driving as you want by letting you create your schedual. I cant say enough about this camp and these people. If your heading to Kenya for a safari this is the place to go.

We recently spend 3 nights at Richard's and had a wonderful time. The tents are very comfortable and the food is excellent. It is some of the best dining we experienced Kenya. The daily game drives were both inside and outside the Mara and we preferred the trips outside the national park. We caught the last of the migration so there were plenty of animals seen on every drive including dozens of lions. The guides, dressed in full Masai gear, were wonderful and we the most articulate guides we have encountered in eight trips to Africa. Besides having great eyes, they were funny, bright and a joy to spend time with - they knew where to find the animals and they seemed like they truly lked being with us.

This is a great place to stay on the Mara and Kaila and Shawn are super hosts.

Room Tip: We had tent number 3 - a choice location.

Richard's Camp is absolutely 100% the best possible place to stay in the Mara. The hosts (Kayla and Shawn) are lovely - nothing is too much trouble. I loved that you got to set your own personalized schedule too (i.e. go game driving when you want, go visit the village when you want, eat breakfast out on the Mara - whatever YOU want to do is what you will do).

We were lucky enough to see the "Big 5" by 11am on our first day, but I think that was the exception not the rule. The guides will do everything possible to get you around to see everything and will set the truck up perfectly for photos.

The food is out of this world too and the wine is plentiful! The nightly camp fires are picturesque and the bath tub in the woods is a must. Hopefully, you'll be lucky enough to dine with the Hippos too!

In short, have a great time - you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Kayla and Shawn will choose your tent for you in advance, but I am sure that if you wanted to move o...

I have just read my girlfriend's review and just want to add the how impressed I was with the staff friendly and attentive, there when you need them without being overbearing; they were all fabulous from waiters to porters and of course our guide Boston! We had a great stay, relaxed and really enjoyed the spender that is the Masai Mara!

This was such a wonderful experience in every respect that it is hard to know where to begin. The couple who managed the camp couldn't have been more welcoming: we felt like part of their family. The local Maasai who staffed the camp were wonderfully friendly and helpful and provided service on a five star level. Our guide, Joseph, and our tracker, Sadera, were a delight to be with--we spent most of our waking hours for four days with them--and found more animals to view than we ever imagined we would see, particularly our favorites, the big cats: lions, cheetahs and leopards. The food was all we could eat and delicious, and the complimentary wine, cocktails and beer were one more nice touch that made the experience feel like a visit to a friend's house.
The camp itself is a study in understated elegance. Seven or eight large tents tucked at intervals into the edge of the forest surrounding a large tree-dotted lawn, with a good-sized open building that served as a lodge for gathering and, we assume, dining in inclement weather (we didn't have any). Barring adverse weather, meals are served at a large communal table out under the trees with a campfire nearby where we gathered each evening for cocktails. All the tents had fabric floors, a very comfortable outdoor sitting area and a bathroom. Our tent had a generous bedroom area with a kingsize bed and a dressing room area. Don't look for a pool, tennis court or workout facility; they would be a waste of your time with all the animals to see.
We highly recommend that you take advantage of the "bush dinner" (we will leave our description at "OMG" and not spoil the wonderful experience for you), a bath under the stars, a visit to the nearby Maasai village, an early evening walk on the Mara and as much time as you can possibly spend in the Range Rover out on the Mara with your guide and tracker.

Room Tip: All of the tents appeared to be the same layout and in great locations, but tents 6 and 7 were just...

My partner and I chose to spend our first anniversary at Richard's Camp and it didn't disappoint. Our tent was luxurious, set back in a small glade, with a huge bed and all mod-cons...which is quite something, considering we were in the middle of nowhere. The camp as a whole is so picturesque, set around a small meadow, shaded by a beautiful glade and the atmosphere is laid back to say the least. The staff are efficient, but discreet and our hosts couldn't have made us more welcome. I'd highly recommend the open-air, forest bathroom, with a hot running shower and free-standing Victorian bathtub, all lit by candlelight. How romantic! The food was delicious and served in large portions, just what you need after hours out on the escarpment watching the wildlife. And what wildlife. I was blown away by the sheer variety we saw. This isn't my first safari, but I saw more animals in one day than I've ever seen, including lion, cheetah, leopard, herds of elephant, giraffes and a huge pod of hippos basking in the sun. And then there were the bird - eagles, vultures, secretary birds and lilac-crested rollers, to name but a few. It was a fabulous weekend and we've already recommended it to family and friends. Where will we be spending our second anniversary? At Richard's Camp of course.
