“The apex-photography safari camp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

I stayed five days at Bush Camp, my first time both in the Mara and also on a safari. I was impressed with the accommodation, the setting, the food, the slick organisation but most of all with the pains taken by the guides to find the photo opportunities that we wanted. Encyclopaedic knowledge of the Mara by the highly trained guides was a given (I was told they generally attend tracking school for a year unlike some other places), but also their intelligence network e.g. guides not with guests scouring the area and reporting in. Very effective and a real capacity for taking pains. The managers Darren and Emma were great - approachable, excellent company and nothing was too much trouble. The other guests (nearly all repeats and some with over 10 previous trips with Kicheche) were great fun and there was a real sense of anticipation of what the next day would bring. A winner!

I spent 5 nights at Kicheche Bush camp in December after spending 3 nights at Kicheche Mara camp.
Before i arrived at Bush Camp i thought i'd already had an amazing Safari, had been treated brilliantly by the staff and had seen every possible animal. Bush camp just blew every other Safari experience i've had out of the water!

The tents at Bush camp are wonderful, each one has an amazing view out into the Kenyan Bush (i saw Zebra and Impala as i lazed in the hammock outside my tent) Super comfy beds and an amazing shower area.

I must have gained weight during my 5 day stay as the food as amazing. How the kitchen team managed to produce stunning food such as steak and red snapper in such a small/basic kitchen area i do not know. All the food served was a credit to them.

I thought my guide at Mara camp was good but that was before i met Bush camp guide Nelson. He was completely outstanding! Nelson seemed to have some sort of predator radar, no matter what animal i wanted to see, he found it. Aside from being able to spot animals from miles away, he was also a fabulous driver and no matter how bad the weather got and how muddy the tracks were, Nelson had it under control.

The camp hosts Darren and Emma were lovely. They are clearly in the right job as they were brilliant at making all the guests feel comfortable and looked after despite there being a huge mix of people staying at the camp. During my stay i caught a cold and Darren and Emma made sure i had everything i needed, even sending somebody to the local town to pick up more cold and flu medication. One night all our tents were full of bugs. After dinner Emma offered to walk back to my tent with me - as i was staying alone - and make sure all the bugs were out. The hosts being willing to go the extra mile just made me feel incredibly well looked after.

The night security guards called Askari were very reassuring. The head Askari Robert always had a smile on his face and was keen to chat about the day on safari. They must be incredibly brave, patrolling the camp after dark while Lions, Hyena and Elephants roam nearby.

A special mention to Abraham. He always greeted me with the most friendly smile, and although i know that all the staff are expected to be kind to guests, i believe he is just a genuinely lovely person. His welcoming smile made every trip to the dining tent a pleasure.

All in all my time at Kicheche Bush camp was one of the best experiences of my life so far. I have genuinely never felt so well looked after on holiday as i did here. For anybody contemplating staying here, don't even hesitate. You won't regret it.

A massive thank you to everybody who made my trip so wonderful. It's time to start saving up from my next visit . . .

Room Tip: The two tents furthest away from the main dining tent seem the best as nobody has to walk behind the...

After having been to many Safari places in Africa - Kicheche Bush Camp is one of the best places for wildlife photographie. You are very close to the hot-spots and no need to drive all day long.
Emma and Darren are really great hosts - there is an extraordinary spirit in the whole camp. They both tale care for their clients and it comes from the heart. You feel how they love Afirca, Wildlife and People. The whole staff is very professional and friendly. We felt like home. Charles is a very good guide and most patient with photographers which means waiting for the right moment. Pls refer to the fotos in www.photomoments.at.

The best place to see leopards mating - in a tree, in grass, everywhere. Want to see lions? Cant't go wrong with Kitcheche Bush Camp. There is two dozen right behind tents - one dozen on each side. And a third male probably trying to challenge one of the other two. You probably wont see it but you'll definitely hear it when the nigh falls. And, as you start hearing them getting closer to your tent you'll see grazers coming even closer seeking protection. Use your flash light and you'll see over a million of eyes staring at you. We had a lot of fun :-) Cant wait to get there again!

A safari in the Masai Mara is an experience, a safari in Kicheche Bush camp is a whole other world. We would not wish to change anything since this is truly a life experience just the way it is. The environment is natural and ecofriendly but maintains luxury and comfort in the tents which are sumptuous whilst retaining some traditional features such as warm bucket showers filled at your request.
The guiding is true quality and professional and is probably the most impressive feature of all the camps successes. We are still amazed at how animals could be spotted by Charles in the distance with such apparent ease, when we could see nothing but the stunning landscape of the Conservancy. The fact that this is on the edge of the Reserve is another great bonus. The wildlife is plentiful (or at least it is in Charles' hands) but the number of tourists is almost nil - so it is often unusual to see any other vehicle on a 6 hr game drive even at a spectacular sighting such as a cheetah kill or a lion with young cubs. The vehicles are also allowed anywhere within the landscape and so are not consigned to roads as they mostly are in the reserve.
The managers Emma and Darren have the formula exactly right with every member of staff so keen to get it just right - and they do with great success. Emma and Darren are there to meet you on arrival and are there to see you off and to welcome you back from every game drive. They are present at meals and engage all guests in the most friendly and inclusive manner. Food was always excellent making meal times an enjoyable and entertaining experience.
We loved our stay and would highly recommend this place to everyone - so much so that we have felt compelled to write our first trip advisor review.

From the moment we arrived in the conservancy, the talented guides at Kicheche were able to find animals - going about their daily activities of resting, playing, fighting and hunting. Charles, our guide, made us feel we had the place to ourselves and were not only able to get us up close with so many animals - including birds, bucks lions, hippos, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, elephants and all of their babies, but could tell us about their patterns and preferences. We saw something new on each game drive. The service and food were delightful and the accommodations were lovely. The camp hosts, Emma and Darrell, and entire staff made us feel part of the Kicheche family. We couldn't have asked for a better trip!

Room Tip: Not a bad tent on the camp! All are great!

Stayed as part of a Kicheche package, 4 nights Laikipia, 4 nights Valley, 4 nights Bush Camp.

This reserve is wonderful; there are animals everywhere you look, but very few vehicles.

Our guide was James, a lovely and talented guide who even managed to spot an aardwolf whilst we were out on a drive with him.

We had good sightings of three different leopards; we also saw cheetah, lion and rhino – not to mention the fact of seeing the ‘Big Five’ during a single game drive!

We had an amazing bush breakfast on the banks of the Mara, the river was full of hippos and the banks lined with huge crocodiles.

We went to the main area of the Mara one day and saw the famous and huge Marsh pride with an eland kill, there seemed to be lions everywhere.

Darren and Emma work really hard to make sure your stay is a good one, they are there to see you off and greet you back from your game drives and check you are happy. It was my birthday on the first night of our stay and there was a birthday card and some bubbly in our tent to celebrate. They arranged for a Masai dance for me in the evening (but unfortunately had to call it off as the heavens opened and we had a storm).

The staff are so caring and helpful and the food is great.

A great camp.

Room Tip: All tents are excellent quality
