“Small and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2010

If you are looking for a small tented camp where instead of mass you get class Mara Siria will be the right place for you. I have been there September 2008 and again July 2010 to see the great the great Migration. The camp is beautifully situated on top of a hill overlooking the Mara river - stunning views are guaranteed. It is approx. 20 min from Kichwa Tembo airstrip and the entrance to Maasai Mara National Park. Tents are not only clean but also very nicely decorated and mantained. There are usually less then 20 guests in the entire camp which guarantees and individualized safari experience rather than a mass tourism seen in other camps. On safari we either had the camp's Landcruisers to ourselfs or were four at max. While we saw the cars of the even the more luxurious and expensive camps often packed with 8-10 people. Our drivers were usually the first "on scene" and had excellent skills in spotting animals. On both trips to the camp I saw the famous crossing of zebras/wilderbeasts which was an incredible experience. In the evening after the famous "hot bush shower" (involving staff bringing hot water in buckets) dinner is either in a small banda or in the reception tent. Usually buffet style, excellent food.
To conclude I can recommend the Mara Siria camp unconditionally to everyone who is seeking a personal, individual safari experience without wanting to miss out on comfort, excellent service and good food. My only advise bring pyjamas since it can get quite cold at night.

The two nights spent at Mara Siria Camp went all too quickly. The friendly staff greatly added to the enjoyment of our stay. The accomodation was tastefully furnished and very clean. Meals, were varied although of a limited menu, and were delicious with portions that were more than adequate. Our driver/guide made our game drives in the Masai Mara memorable indeed as he knew many choice locations for animal viewing. We saw the Big 'seven', which included three of the cats!
We can wholeheartedly recommend the Mara Siria Camp, and hope to visit again soon.

I stayed with a group of friends at The SIria camp for the weekend. The setting is spectacular - high up on the escarpment with fantastic views over the Mara. The tents are very comfortable, well furnished and clean. The staff provide a very personal service and are very flexible about meal times - happy to fit in with your safari plans. We did not use their vehicle/guide for our safaris but another guest highly recommended them as being very knowledgeable.
Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay for your safari in the Mara.

The camp site was in a fantastic position with the most amazing views over the Mara.
Excellent service, lovely people. The safari days were wonderful, our driver Ken tried to show us everything. Thanks Pheonix.

I've been to the Mara several times and this time brought my brother, sister and her three kids aged 12 to 16 for their first visit. We all loved Siria. It is really unspoilt, at the top of the escarpment with amazing views. Breakfast is served right at the top- like something out of 'Out of Africa'. Tents are very comfortable and quite 'eco'. Water comes in a bowl, but loos do flush. Hot water for showers has to be ordered and comes very quickly. Just lovely- a real bush camp, but you are very well looked after. No nicely paved walkways, but set amongst the trees and grass, and only about 12 tents in total. Do take the escorted walk down the escarpment to the hippo pools with the masai guide. Food was great and service too. No TV, no loud music, but that's why we loved it, including the kids. Something a bit different and special, and not your average tourist spot.

No large crowds packing into minibusses, no beauty sapa or other unnecessary frills, fantastic staff, and a genuine desire to minimise their footprint in the Mara - what a refreshing change to the usual run of the mill "pack-em-in-like-sardines" lodges!!

Away from the crowds, good food, lovely tent accomodation, lots of game...... what more can you ask for!
The tented room with attatched bathroom is very quaint, no running water, but if you need a hot shower they arrange a lovely bush shower.
Staff were most attentive and so friendly, we were treated like royalty.
I loved the place.
