“The best safari camp bar none!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

We spent 3 nights at Porini Mara in October 2011. Having been on several Safari's all over Africa, Porini Mara provided the best experience I have had on any. The camp is beautiful, excellently run by David - the every helpful host. The conservancy was teeming with wildlife and our guide Jimmy was fantastic. Sundowners watching the Lions is an experience I will never forget. The Gamewatchers Safari team who organised our trip recommended the camp pulled out all the stops for such a memorable holiday. I will be recommending Porini Mara to anyone that would wish to experience an East African Safari experience to remember! T

We spent 3 nights at the Mara Porini camp and 3 at the Amboseli Porini camp in September 2011. We had a fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable stay. From the moment we arrived all members of staff were first class. Nothing was too much trouble for them, including Jake finding the England Rugby scores for us. The game drives were amazing, and the knowledge of the Masai guides was second to none. The guides were extremely friendly and went the extra mile to ensure we saw everything that we wanted; taking us on extra game drives at night and walks in the bush. The food was exquisite and the soups in particular were delicious. This was our first safari in Kenya and we could not recommend it more, we certainly hope to be back one day in order to find the elusive leopard and Simon the Hippo!

Looking for a good Safari you have just found it!

We stayed 3 nights at the Mara Porini camp in September 2011. We had the most amazing time. The camp is very beautiful and extremely well run. The conservancy is teeming with wildlife, and a great many species of birds and animals can be seen in & around the camp.
Our guide and driver, Josphat & Simon went out of their way to make our visit exciting and ensure we saw everything we wanted to see. It is extremely important to all the staff that you have an exceptional experience and everything is just as you want it, it is very important to them that you are “Happy”.

The tented accommodation is of excellent standard, as is the food and drinks. The game drives are all in high open sided land cruisers, so you have an excellent view and get extremely close to the animals. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and we were very lucky to have a bird expert, the amount of birdlife just in the conservancy was staggering. There are only 6 tents in the Mara camp so you are ensured of a very personal time. It is an open camp and I must admit that prior to going I was a little concerned about this. However even though you can hear animals near your tent at night, there was never an instant when I felt frightened.

Porini camps differ from other safari camps and tourist lodges as they run the conservancy to protect wildlife habitat and to generate income and livelihoods for the Maasai community members who own the land which makes up the conservancy. The running costs of the conservancy comes from the income from visitors staying at the camp. This is a huge benefit to the environment, wildlife and the Maasi. We felt that whilst having the time of our lives we were also giving something. In this day & age we feel that this is extremely important.

Our ambition to see a Leopard was not successful so we are just going to have to go back and we can’t wait! Thanks to all at the Mara camp for such a wonderful time.

Fantastic stay at Mara Porini. Well appointed, luxury tents with full bathroom facilities. Warm, welcoming staff, great food. Meals are served at a large, family style table which encourages conversation and interaction with the other guests. Have sundowners at the cozy campfire or at a scenic area in the conservancy. The camp uses open sided Land Cruisers with a guide and a driver, who were very knowledgeable and personable. Would stay there again.

We stayed at Mara Porini for a few nights last months and left with expectations having been exceeded and us having been completely "wowed".

What isn't always obvious when reading Porini's promotional material is just how much of a priority your enjoyment is for the staff at the camp. They really will do anything they can to make your experience not just enjoyable, but truly memorable. Apart from being flexible in terms of maximizing game drive time, Porini sweats the small stuff like impeccable tent cleanliness, a hot water bottle to warm your bed while you eat, delicious cooking, always-clean SUVs (and clean ponchos too), and service ALWAYS with smile. They really make you feel like you're being taken care of and the only thing you have to worry about is the settings on your camera.

The fellow guests that this type of camp attracts are also wonderful and we met a delightful group of people including a number of the previous recent commentors.

The only area where some may not come away fully beaming is if you believe you got a less-experienced guide than some of the other guests. It's true that your guide will have a big impact on your your safari experience. We had the Bronze guide (less experienced than the other 2 silver guides) but we were happy with what we saw. Wilson is a great guy and a genuine character, and he is a key part of the magical Maasai experience we will never forget. All the guides at Mara Porini are excellent.

The 2 of us continued on to Kilimanjaro where we had 7 porters, our own cook, a guide, and an assistant guide, but despite these numbers, it was night and day compared to the service and professionalism we experienced at Mara Porini. We definitely plan on returning one day!

Just back from two nights in Porini Mara during the best holiday of my life. Apart from the scenery and wildlife what makes this holiday stand out is the staff. They could not do enough for you. With a small number of guests and superb staff this is a wonderful safari experience. Hign standards of service and cleanliness, good food, excellent facilities and great guides. My wife needed some medical attention and this was promptly organised with genuine concern. Overall a lovely, lovely experience.

My husband and I stayed at this camp for three nights this month. It was incredibly friendly and we met some wonderful people. Nothing was too much for the camp manager, David and the staff were extraordinarily helpful. The drives were good and there was lots of see - animal wise.
We all ate at a long table and the food was plentiful and tasty. The wine flowed and the conversation went on until the early hours. We did learn that it doesn't pay to stay up too late as the drives started early and trucks gave us all the famous "Masai Massage". You basically hang on and enjoy the ride!
I would recommend this camp to anyone who enjoys adventure right in the bush. Very few trucks around as this is tucked away in the Porini concession.
Great fun was had by all.

Room Tip: None of the rooms overlook the others. All equally well positioned
