“EXCELLENT!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

While you may think this camp is pricey you definitely get what you pay for. It is not a lodge so you don't have to worry about lots of people. You are attended to at all times, the food is great, you will pretty much get a safari truck with guide just for your party and the guides are very knowledgeable and flexible. This is once in a life time experience and worth every penny!!!

We had an amazing time at Rekero during our trip to Africa in July. The staff, the accommodations, the food and the guides were absolutely incredible. If we are fortunate enough to make a second trip to Africa in the future we will without a doubt weave Rekero Camp into that trip as well! Truly one of the most memorable trips we've ever taken!

We had the pleasure of staying 4 nights at Rekero. We were met at the airstrip my Moses who took us on a mini game drive on our way back to the camp- we were lucky enough to see 2 adolescent male lions immediately following a kill- what a great start!
ON arrival at the camp Clea & staff greeted us- and boy did we appreciate the refreshing towels after every game drive!
We had Onesmus as our guide who did an outstanding job. His passion for photography also meant he went out of his way to ensure we got as close as we could to the animals and had great light!!
On our first afternoon game drive we were lucky enough to see the rhino (of which there are only 4 on that side of the reserve)- so that was pretty special. We also saw plenty of lions ( 15 in one day!!), baboons, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, elephants, serval cat, leopard, cheetah, mongoose, buffalo, hippos & more.
The camp itself is quite spacious- the "tents" are seriously impressive. Ours had a siting room, bedroom with King Bed, and a bathroom (with proper flushing toilet) - not sure i'll ever be able to go camping again without expecting this level of luxury.
Showers can be arranged for anytime, however most people take them after the afternoon game drive, they're bucket showers so the staff fill the buckets and wait to ensure you have enough- you can request a refill- however we found the amount to be sufficient.
Meal times are quite social- with drinks around the fire before a communal meal in the main tent. Clea, Conway & Marianna are present at all meals & have done a great job at ensuring everyone feels at home.. all other staff are attentive and ensure you have everything you need. .
We weren't lucky enough to see the migration, but we did see a few mini crossings at camp which was great fun.

All tents face along the Talek River, with tents 8 & 9 in the most active area for the big animals- as they are a 3-5 minute walk from the main camp. Sleep quality depends on how active the animals are- the hippos can be very noisy (and smelly) - but hey.. it just adds to the experience! Staff turn down your bed in the evening and even supply hot water bottles which is a nice touch on cold nights!

All in all we loved every minute of our stay at Rekero and highly recommend it to anyone heading to the Mara

Room Tip: Tents 8 & 9 have the most animal activity at night as they are closest to the hippo pool. They a...

We were celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Upon arrival the team made us so welcome. The chilled fragranced towels were most appreciated and we were fed with the most fantastic home made breads, tasty salads and meats. Within an hour, William, the Masai 'butler' came running to our tent( we use this term loosely as it was beyond 'glamping') with news of a potential cheetah kill just off camp. We witnessed the chase from the camp whilst our fantastic guide Daniel came rushing with the safari vehicle to run us to the kill spot. And so the excitement of the stay continued. Met every morning promptly (with a bush breakfast to enjoy on the Mara plain) , we were out on the road with the guide (the fantastic Masai warrior guide Dan) who did his very upmost to ensure we saw everything - even placing the vehicle was to enhance photography shots -.what really amazed us, was how close to the wildlife you were - so please - take a good camera.
Whilst travelling our guide even gave us a fascinating insight into the Masai way of life (which was so interesting). Returning to camp at lunch, we were met with a splendid lunch - and a cold beer/wine if required. We then had a few hours to sit at the banks of the river watching the camp mascot George the Hippo or reading some of the lovely books placed in the lounge tent (complete with snug sofas etc.).
Later we would then take another drive with the lovely surprise of sun downers before heading to what quickly became 'home'. A lovely HOT shower awaited and pre dinner drinks around the camp fire, then for a feast of a meal that you would expect from a 5 star hotel (how did the chef do it?). After a dreamless sleep (subject to your reaction to your Malaria prophylactics) listening to the wildlife that stroll around the campsite, you were then brought hot drinks and homemade biscuits to ease you into the first game drive of the day.

Conway, Clea, Dan and the rest of the family made us feel so special and part of the Mara Family.
We will be forever indebted to the whole team for making our celebration something we will never EVER forget.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper bring some ear plugs: most beautiful natural sounds of the animals but on...

We stayed for 3 nights beginning of August, and I can simply say, this is the best accommodation experience in Africa for my husband and I in terms of service and location.

The camp was located by the river ( and there are many hippos in there ) , and a short distance from the airstrip– about 30mins drive.
In between game drives, there are lots to see at the camp itself – mini river crossings by the wildebeests and zebras.

The animals were just everywhere , especially in the night. For first 2 nights, we heard the hippos and buffalo but on our last night, we heard the lions across the river the whole night through. The rumbling was music to my ears .

Sitting in our tent , we look out and we see the animals across the river. It’s like watching National Geographic channel on a very big TV screen right in front of us. The tents are located in between bushes so it’s very private.

The tent is spacious and well laid out. It has a cozy feel and everything we need to feel comfortable within the room including flush toilet and shower. Although they use bucket system for the shower, we never run out of hot water because the staff are on standby to top up.
I love the fact that when they turn they bed for the night, they place hot water bottles on the bed, and we get into a warm bed. On a cold night, this is most welcoming.

I am amazed at the quality of the food – excellent in every way , and always different.

Special thanks to Dan our guide and Joseph the trainee guide. Dan has the most amazing eyesight and could see things that we could not see. Whatever we want to see, he will look for it. And he’s quite a joker too.

Finally, Clea, Conway and Marianne & Matt ( the intern) – the perfect host/hostess - you guys ROCK !
We like the fact that you all dine with the guest at dinner and become the link for great dinner conversations amongst strangers. All the staff address us by names wherever we go, and they are so warm and friendly. This is what makes the camp so different from the other accommodation we stayed in.
The whole experience was just awesome - kudos to you all and the rest of the team for the high level of service and the personal touch.

If you are looking for the perfect camp in Masai Mara – THIS IS IT !!

Our family of three recently visited Rekero Camp in June and were blown away but it's location (right on Talek river), our incredible guide Daniel, staff, level of service and our outstanding accommodations. These are luxury tents!
From the wonderfully warm bucket showers, hot water bottles for the chilly nights, our brave Askari escorts, to delicious meals and conversations-it doesn't get much better than this. Daniel, our guide met us in a small village outside the camp and drove us to the Talek Gate. When we crossed through the gate, it was like being in the lion king. We were met by hundreds of different animals --zebra, elephants, giraffe, Wilde beast and cheetah all standing posing for us. Once we arrived at camp, we entered our high end luxury tent, settled in and made our way to lunch which was set up by the river. We watched "George" the hippo while we admired the views and animals. Game drives never disappointed-always seeing something new and exciting. Even spotting the elusive leopard "Bahati" crossing the river on our
last day. Lucky for sure. The guides are very knowledgeable even knowing the Latin names for plants, birds and beast. Clea and Conway, out hosts did and do
a wonderful job. We will be returning!
