“A fabulous stay and incredible experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

I was at the Fairmont Mara Safari Club in August 2012 with a group of 25 people and had a wonderful stay. The 'luxury tents' were spacious, nicely designed and very comfortable. Our backyard was full of 'hippos' lounging in the river...what a site!!! The food was excellent and the service was amazing. Anything you wanted, the cooks would accommodate. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of choice that was available. The common areas were rustic with beautiful artwork and very inviting. There is a small business centre available if you want to check email and free wifi in the lobby area, for those of us who just can't detach from home. They also have an outdoor pool if you want to take an afternoon dip and a gift shop, that was actually priced better than I expected. I bought some artwork, jewellery and wood carvings.

Our driver John, was extremely knowledgeable and took us out on Safari 4 times. We saw the Big 5, along with many other animals. I couldn't seem to get enough of the lions, what beautiful creatures. We were there during the animal migration and I was blown away to see this up front, live and in person. Going out in an 'open' jeep was great for pictures or taking videos. I cannot believe how close we were able to get to the animals.

We also booked a 'hot air balloon' ride over the savana and then had a champagne breakfast served in the middle of the dessert, what an experience!!! There was someone on site at the Fairmont who was able to book this most incredible trip.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, you may not want a tent facing the river as the hippos can be very lo...

Safe and relaxing ambience surrounded by river of hippos. Comfy and luxurious tents with ample hot water, warm and cozy beds, full amenities, and insect/mosquito-free! Service is tops with super friendly chef who provided wonderful international dishes according to preference, personalized approach by restaurant staffs, discreet but thorough housekeeping, pro-active front office colleagues who arranged a yummy birthday cake (served with an amazing african song) and offered lunch boxes during our day trip and our departure day. All done with happy faces and sincere friendliness - it actually makes one feel so much at home that it was difficult to leave.
We had a private safari from a separate tour operator during the entire stay so our game drives' itinerary was quite different and unrestricted - but still the front office staffs liaised with our private guide/driver to ensure we get the best experience all the time.
Being a person working in a hospitality industry, the Fairmont Mara is, so far, the only one that made me give a full rating of 5 on a review.

I enjoyed my stay at this place on my first-ever trip to Masai Mara. I was pleasantly surprised with both the common areas and tent. The pool area was great, I loved the proximity to the river, and the beds were comfortable. The service was great, too.

There were certainly downsides though. I enjoyed the game drives, but I'm told that longer drives with more successful hours are offered at other camps. I was also disappointed by the Masai performer's energy while performing, and that disappointment continued as I saw them speaking perfect English, talking on cell phones, and then driving away in their cars.

Overall, though, still a great place to relax and feel close to nature while enjoying comfort and convenience.

We had a stay in beginning of July this year. The property is reasonably good. Very friendly chef and restaurant staff. They gave us customized cuisines for all the meals on request as we were vegetarians. But can not say the same about the people who manage the game drives. We were given a closed vehicle on the first 2 game drives where as the best experience is in the open vehicles. Although we did see a few open ones with space available, we were surprisingly not allowed in spite of expressing our displeasure. The MOST important point about trips to Masai Mara is the location of the lodge / hotel. Fairmont Mara Safari Club is located just outside or on the edge of the main reservoir / Savannahs. Hence we could not find as many animals as we would have like to see. My friends who visited Masai Mara just a month before us stayed at Keekorok (which is located within the main forrest area) and the amount of wild life they saw was unbelievable. Hence if catching more wild life is the purpose of this trip then look for properties which are located deeper in the reservoir.

Room Tip: well choose a room facing the Mara river to see hippos swimming and if you are lucky even a gator or...

We have had Fairmont experiences here in Canada but this property exceeded it by the service. Our rooms had hot water bottles each night and we were woken up by hot chocolate with cookies!!! The food was excellent Congratulations to the chef and our waiter Johnson was superb!!!! Our highlight of the trip was the game drives and I believe we had the best guide Anthony!!! It was raining in the afternoons but on our three night stay we saw the big 5 a lion hunt and tons of animals!!!! ASK FOR HIM!!! We learnt a lot of the animal kingdom and we were given detailed explanations of the behavior of wildlife in the Masai Mara. Our parents have to come next year and am sure they will love this place!!!

I LOVED this tented camp...on the bank of the Mara River, we had Hippos bathing just outside our tent. The Blue Monkeys were so much fun to watch as they scampered about. A very beautiful location, good food, and great service! I would LOVE to go back and stay a week! LOVED the hot water bottles under the covers! We had wonderful game drives and took a most incredible hot air balloon ride over the Maasai Mara!!!
