“Tent in Jungle . . . Maasai Mara”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Well what can i say about the overall experience...It was a wonderful experience to visit the Maasai Mara game camp and stayed at the Sarova mara hotel...Living in a tent (#28) in jungle was a unique yet enjoyable experience and on top of it hotel was good enough to support it...Though this time i came on a business visit and took off to see the Maasai life but next time definitely i will bring my family along with me to see things more closely and in detail to enjoy it to fullest...Hats off to Sarova for maintaining such a property in the Jungle...Keep it up.

Sarova Mara is probably one of the best places to stay while visiting Masai Mara. It is truly an oasis with a lot of green all around. Excellent accommodation (barring the long walk to the tent), good food and very helpful staff.

The Sarova Mara is a beautiful, carefully laid-out and extremely well-maintained camp. But the real star of our stay was our guide, Ken Kisio. He was knoweldgable, patient, kind and good company and just brilliant at getting us to the best possible location to see the widest possible range of wildlife. We were only in the Masai Mara for 3 days (and spent one of those in a balloon) and yet saw all the big 5 and much, much more. He was terrific.

The only slight disappointment with our trip was the food at the hotel. Too much choice and none of it very good. The meat was unchewably tough, the bread dry and tasteless. This is fairly basic stuff that a hotel of such otherwise good quality should be able to get right.

We enjoyed every moment at Sarova.
The club tents were amazing, the food was superb, everything about Sarova was amazing, but the best of all among everything was two things: being at the heart of Maasai Mara and being surrounded by the wild life.
We look forward staying there when we do another safari at Masaai Mara.

Room Tip: Club Tents are the best!

We came to the Mara after a wonderful 2 days in Loisaba.

We were met at the airstrip by Danielle who would be our guide and drive for the next 3 nights.

We stayed in the Club Tents, LARGE, huge well laid out tents. I love the concept. Full tent below a tiled roof structure. The rear of the tent has a bricked bathroom with all the amenities.

I loved the way they would prepare the tents each night, Zip down each 'window' cover the bed with mosquito nets (doubt there were any!) . Neatly done.

Food and service were great. The staff is very professional and always there on call. We had our tables reserved automatically each time and it was fine.

Now, game drives, we did 2 per day, early morning out by 0630 and back by 0915 for breakfast. Afternoon out by 1530 and back way later than the official 1830 curfew! by 1900 hrs!!

We saw a lot. While at this time the grass is ver high and can hide a lot of game, Danilelle managed to get us to Lions, (one chap walked right next to our car followed by 6 vans!!), lionesses and beautiful cubs of various ages. Hippos, giraffes, lots of wild buffaloes (dangerous looking buggers), plenty of different deer family and more. Missed the cheetah and rhino. But a highlight was coming to a tall acacia tree with Mr Leopard fast asleep and his huge deer kill on a lower branch. We waited, he woke up, and obliged us with eating his prey right there. Amazing. Then he even took the prey to a higher branch, relaxed and jumped down the tree!! Amazing sights and sounds.

We had one lion cross us, then roar several times looking for someone obviously! Got that well on video.
All in all, an excellent stay, and while a visit during Migration is preferred, we still had a good fill of game!

So, fantastic 3 days there, fantastic Kenya, enchanting Africa, Have to come back!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the club tents, Numbers 64 to 67

Just inside Masai Mara Reserve this Sarova lodge offers an average lodgment for people who do not mind to be in a resort with lots of other guests. Meaning this isn't the place where you feel special and a valuable guest. You do not see luxury in this place, you can instead have a good service from nice people who are willing to offer you a nice stay with them. If you don't have hign expectations this place is more than OK. It's a big place. A huge restaurant with inside area and a balcony where you have all meals. A great lawn which sadly is not used for nothing (they could have meals or tea/coffee there but no). The lodgmente offers only tents, which by the way are very reasonable: bathroom is not made by the tent but rather in bricks which offers more safety. The bed is confortable covered with a mosquito net. The balcony has 2 chairs and a table which seems a nice place for day time. The pool is small. No views as the place is all covered with high trees. You can see animals (small one) in the place. No phone inside the tent and be prepared to switch ligths complety bu 01:00, but you have a flash light inside the room.

Room Tip: i imagine the best tents are those near restaurant and pools, despite the food smell during meals, a...

We spent three glorious nights at the Sarova Mara Game Camp on a safari last week. It was the third Sarova property we'd stayed at on the trip and it was certainly the best. The chain provides a superb service for those on safari - lots of good food served in copious quantities at the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets - many of the main protein dishes are prepared for you 'to order' as you wait. The variety and quality is great. The staff was courteous, solicitous, professional and friendly. When I needed to visit the medical clinic for a minor ailment, the camp Dr. (Marcus) was wonderfully friendly and concerned - and I left with the necessary medications - free of charge!!! The luxury tents are fun also - they allow you to hear the wildlife that wanders near the camp, but to enjoy privacy also. And, of course, the location is unsurpassed - you're right in the middle of amazing wildlife and the majestic meadows with views to every horizon are to die for. In short, I'd build any Kenyan safari around this wonderful property.

Room Tip: If you don't want a rather long walk, request a room with a lower number. Ours was 52 and we we...
