“Always a pleasant welcome stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

Our family of six were there from 26th Sept to 30th. The usual impeccable service brought us back there for the 3rd time.On arrival at the air strip our driver Ken welcomed us with cold towels and a refreshing drink. The family and club tents were superb. Our full day game drives were organised by Ken who made sure that our lunch boxes and drinks was fully stocked. We ended our stay with a great massage by Grace and a surprise Birthday breakfast on their private lawnfor our son and grandson. Special thanks to Carol / 'Douglas / John / Gilbert for the food and service. Be assured that we shall return !! Asante Sana Sarova. Aftab and Manju Mombasa

Room Tip: Club Tents are the best

Visited Mara Sarova for the second year in a row. This year in August during the great migration. And did we enjoy it ! A wonderful clubtent, so the nights were very comfortable. Dikdiks nearby, who posed for some beautiful pictures without hesitation. Wonderful food and very friendly personnel. As returning guests we were treated tot a private dinner on the view deck, which was wonderful.
In the Mara we saw (of course next to the enormous herds of wildebeasts and zebra's) a lot of young animals: lion and cheetah cubs, young giraffe, young "pumba's" etc. To much to mention.
Made a lot of incredibly beautiful pictures.
At the risk of forgetting someone, we would like to thank especially Chef John (delicious pepper steaks !), Caroline, Cyrus, Ruben, Emelda and the people at the private dinner for making this again an unforgettable experience. We felt "karibu tena" once again and will certainly return !

I've stayed in this camp more than 10 times and each stay was wonderful. Camp staff is always very friendly, tents are always clean, garden is always well maintained and the location is also very good: close to the entrance gate of the park and right in the middle of the game. If you can afford the extra bucks, i would reccomend the club tents but regular tents are also comfortable and spacious enough for 2 people. I would not reccomend a third bed in the tent. Try their bush breakfat, its well worth the money.

We stayed in the Sarova Mara Tented Camp in August 2012. Though it was our sixth visit to Masai Mara, we stayed in Sarova for the first time (we like to visit different properties). I forgot to mention that we are living in Kenya for many years.
The camp is located next to Sekenani game, and not "right in the middle of 375 sq kms wild", as was stated in anothe review. In the end of August, during migration, while the herds have resched the middle of the park, the Sarova side still had very liitle game, and it's about 40 mins drive to see the migration. Though, there were some animals.
The Club tent we stayed in was perfect. We had the last one, and though it's long walk to the main building, it was very nice. We had family of dik-dik (the smallest antelope) visiting, and they were quite accustomed to people and not afraid.
There are lots of things to do in the lodge - swimming pool (my son had great time playing waterball with other kids and the staff), mini-golf. The grounds are beatiful and well kept, and some left in their natural state.
All was well, except food. Before coming to Sarova Mara, we stayed 3 nights in other lodge in Masai Mara, and I had no problems there. But after dinner in Sarova I had slight indigestion. But after breakfast the next day it was much worse - I was suffering heartburn all the way back to Nairobi. Though they make great effort to show that their food is fresh - small portions salads ans desserts, live cooking stations, I saw cook putting in the chaffer dish old-looking cold potato with a lot of white grease stuck on it. Brrrr...
My advise - avoid any old-looking or tired food, and you will enjoy your visit.

Accomodation is in tents amongst the undergrowth. I was expecting a view of the reserve but instead we were in amongst the trees and bushes. Quite a walk from the main building but very peaceful and you felt really at one with nature!
We had three in our tent and wouldn't recommend that as space was limited and we had o use the bathroom (open plan) in relays!!
The food in the restaurant was fantastic with an endless choice to meet everyone's needs!
In the evening we had drink around the open plan bar with a roaring fire in the middle and the Maasai came to the hotel to dance for everyone.
We visited a local Maasai village whilst we were there and I thoroughly recommend this - I was a little dubious and though it might be a bit American/Disneyesque but it was not - really genuine and we went into a hut - pitch dark - were eight people slept each night! Amazing!

Room Tip: Chech how far the room is from the hotel if you don';t want to walk a long way!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. We were upgraded to a club tent on the 2nd night, which was lovely, but kind of a far walk from the main buildings. However, it was very peaceful and we had a view of the park from our porch. The property is surrounded by electrical fencing, but you truly feel like you're in the mara - the camp is in an excellent location.

Overall, our stay was very comfortable. The tents & facilities are very modern (but have no locks, so put valuables in the safe) and there's mosquito netting around the beds. We enjoyed cocktails around a fire in the bar before and after dinner, which was relaxing. The bartender was very friendly and they had a live guitarist each evening, which was a nice touch. The buffet was good, nothing exceptional, but there was plenty of variety to cater to every need.

The highlight for us was a private dinner on one of the viewing decks, complete with private chef and waiter. The food was superb and it was the most memorable meal we had on our entire honeymoon. We also did a champagne breakfast the next morning, which was just as lovely. Would highly recommend booking these in advance - it's a nice break from the busy buffets.

The internet is expensive and we paid for it, but weren't able to connect due to a slow connection. The front desk promptly refunded us, which was appreciated. This was the biggest camp we stayed at during our 9 day safari through Kenya & Tanzania. We have no complaints about it, but didn't give it a 5 because we felt it catered more to mass tourism vs. an intimate experience. Would definitely recommend if you have a family or just want something very well run and comfortable.

Room Tip: We stayed in club tent 60, which is one of the most private, but also a long walk to the main buildi...

Those wild life enthusiasts this is a must visit. This is a life time experience. Hotel property is very conveniently located right in the middle of 375 sq kms wild. Excellent tents with shower and toilets. Good toiletries and hair drier, Beds are secured with mosquito nets for protection. Off course there are lots of mosquitoes around. You can watch and experience masai life from close quarters. The camp has decent swimming pool, badminton court and table tennis court. There is a mini gold for kids. A curio shop, spa and excellent cafe with fire place. Buffet breakfast and meals are very nice too. Indians and vegetarians there is enough to look forward to in the food section. If you happen to celebrate your birthday there they can nice cakes and get some live music band to make it special. In the evenings they also organise some masai dance.

The best part is the game drive. You can room around in your open roof top vehicles to watch millions of wildebeests, zeebras, buffaloes, impalas, Thousands of giraffes, birds, elephants. Also Lions, leopards and cheetahs. Drive up to the Tanzanian boarder near the mara river , you can witness the migration path and hundreds of crocodiles, hippos in the river. You can pack your lunch and have a picnic on the river bank as well.

On the whole unbelievable world.

One word caution. If you have back problem. Then better hire a land cruiser for your game drive. Also last stretch of 78 kms is very bumpy.
