“A Perfect Game Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2011

Mara intrepids has great staff, food, and the tents are fantastic. Not as over the top colonial as some $1000/night tented camps ( no clawfoot tubs or silver wastebaskets ), but the tents are stylish and well appointed. The staff brings tea and coffee to your door as a wake up call, cleans the room twice during the day, turns down the bed, and places hotwater bottles at the foot of the bed while you enjoy dinner. The pool is nothing to write home about but you won't have time to use it anyway. You'll be on game drives or enjoying your tent.

The Mara Itrepids was the most amazing place I have ever stayed. The staff here couldn't do enough for you. If you are fortunate enough to have James as a driver for game drives he is not only well informed but friendly funny and extremely professional. In the resturant Nelson was amazing we felt like rock stars and the unexpected service we received from Jefferson who woke us in the mornings with cookies and Hot Chocolate was a welcome we had not thought about. The hot waterbottles in the room at night were also again not something we had considered when the temperature drops but this place seems to think of everything. I was ill not related to anything caused by the holiday but the on site medical services were helpful and got me through it. I can't thank you all enough for a wonderful stay and would not hesitate in recommending this place enough to everyone I know.

Having recently returned from honeymoon four nights of which we spent at Mara Intrepids I really cannot recommend it enough. The tents are more luxurious than a fancy hotel room with a four poster bed, beautiful furnishings and a hot shower and bathroom. They also have a large veranda with great views: we saw baboons, deer and other wildlife from ours as well as the lovely surrounding landscape.
The Masai Mara is a beautiful place and the game drives a fantastic experience, we saw all of the big five as well as many many other animals from very close range. James our driver for the duration of the stay was extremely knowledgable and great at finding the animals we wanted to see, even the elusive black rhino. He also took us to a Masai village and talked to us about the culture and way of life which was fascinating. He really made our stay.
All the staff are really friendly and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. The tent is cleaned more than once during the day and wake up calls can be requested where hot drinks and biscuits are brought to the tent in the morning which is a lovely way to be woken before the morning game drive.
The food is delicious with a good selection and great service. I really cannot fault anything we had a wonderful stay giving us the best possible start to our honeymoon and I would recommend Mara Intrepids to anyone.

A lovely setting on the river banks. Game-viewing, especially of the big cats (lion, leopard, cheetah), the best we've experienced anywhere -- and it's not even migration time yet. Very knowledgeable guides and great meals.

We stayed 3 days/2 nights at Intrepids and couldn't believe how wonderful everything was. The game reserve drivers were fantastic. We were able to see 4 of the Big Five while staying here. Unbelievable animals up close and personal!

We have just arrived back in the UK after visting Kenya, and the Masai Mara was our first stop. We stayed at the Mara Interpids Lodge and it was the most outstanding hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Your room is a tent but with a built in bathroom which provides hot water and electricity. We had excellent service to the tent, it was cleaned up 1-2 times in a day and would have all the mosquito nets bought down during our evening meal, and hot water bottles placed in the bed every evening as it does get a little chilly on the night time. We were woken with drinks of our choice, we chose coffee and hot choclate which come in flasks so they stay warm for a top up before the early morning safari! As we had a 2 year old daughter she also got orange juice in the mornings, and we had biscuits too.
We stayed for four nights, and we felt that it was long enough to see everything you would want to, we felt that if it had only been 2 nights we would have missed out on some of the animals that we saw on the other two days.
The staff at the lodge are exceptional, they all treat you like royalty, and everyone knew our daughter and would always chat to her when they saw her. In particular Nelson, Humphrey, Tom and Abbey were great. We also used the laundry service and it was always done on the same day and to an excellent standard.
There are three safari's in a day, an early morning, a mid morning and a late afternoon, you see different animals and scenery on all three due to the routines of the animals, so I suggest you go on every outing you can. Because of looking on trip advisor we saw Dennis was one of the best guides and we were cheeky and asked for him specifically, luckily he had no guests that day and so was able to be our guide for our 4 nights there. He was so friendly, helpful and knowladgeable, knowing the animals, what signs to look for, we saw the big 5 in two days, including the rhino and leopard, he found a lioness hunting a warthog so we were able to see the kill happen, and he just found any animal we asked for. He was excellent with our daughter who took a shine to him, and was happy every day. He also took us to a Masai village at our request and waited for us whilst we had our visit to take us back. He taught us Swahili phrases, and made us feel like we had lived there forever!
The masai village was amazing to see, and was definitely an experience to make you feel how lucky you are! They made you feel welcome and took you around the village explaining their life and how they live. The masai warriors also come to the lodge to give talks on animal and masai life, and to greet the guests as they arrive.
We got so close to the animals it was absolutely amazing, we felt like we could reach out of the window and stroke them!
The meals were great, not a wide range of choice but definitely excellent quality, and you did get something different everyday, including fish, chicken, beef and pork. The soups are awesome too!
There are animals who come down to the river at the lodge, you can stand on the bridge to view the river, and we saw impala come to the river for a drink, we saw a crocodile roll over in the water and we saw monkey's across the river, and they also came up close to the dining area, but the staff there know how to get rid of them! There are lots of insects about too but the tents have two layers and netting all around so it is very rare to find one in your room and we never had any problems.
The only things we did not experience were the bush breakfast and dinner, this is because they need 3 adults to allow the experience to go ahead, and unfortunately as the lodge was quiet whilst we there we were unable to go ahead with them, but we were out early and late every day so we still saw the sunrise and sunset every day.
So all in all this was an excellent holiday, we have recommended it to all our friends, as you get to see all the animals you want, you get excellent service from the lodge and safari staff, and you just feel so at home as soon as you enter the lodge.

Room Tip: Near the river is excellent for animal sightings!

Dear Guest, I do take time to read all the Guest Comments posted in the Tripdadvisor and It is always a pleasure to acknowledge them. However this is a special one as it is long, detailed and obviously from a very Happy Guest.
I have happily sent it to the Associates that you contacted while hear. What they may not have told you is that once mentioned in a positive ways they qualify for a special incentive, and so all of them may just be the recipients of some nice goodies later this month.
Allow me to mention though that they were just doing their Job in the best way possible and as a representative of the Employer I have chosen to reward all those who do a good Job.
I will post this comment on the Staff Board as this is one of our pleasures working in the Service Industry - Making a Guest Delighted. We look forward to seeing you soon, this time not only as a Guest but a FRIEND. Good Day.

My wife and I visited Mara intrepid at the end of April this year, flying onto the airstrip less then ½ km from the camp. This camp is really amazing, the tents are 5 star all the way, and the service which goes with them is just as fantastic. Some of the reports talk about how lovely the coffee and biscuits are the morning before the game drive, they are spot on, sitting up in a four poster bed looking over the Mara sipping coffee was a real treat!

The staff, their hospitality and their attention to detail is what puts the icing on the cake, all of them are a real pleasure to be around – Thank you all. Our game driver Dixon was great fun and his experience showed every time we went out as he could find what we wanted to see and then get us into the best position to take the ultimate pictures. Our co adventures in the Landrover were Akash and Chandan and they were part of the great experience, so thanks guys for being great company !

Lots of the reports talk about where the camp is and the things you see, I can’t add anymore to them - they are all completely 100% on the money.

My personal advise to anyone thinking about Intrepids is- Don’t worry about the word Tent - they are 5 star, don’t worry about the weather off season - your generally not going to see much rain (we had one late afternoon downpour), Do take the picnic breakfast – it extends the game drive and you get to see more of the Mara, and do go to the Masa Village, and see how happy they all are without Sky TV and Blackberries…..

We will be back!
