“Beautiful views and great location for game”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We spent two nights here as part of our safari. The lodge is located in the Mara Triangle section of Masai Mara Game Reserve which has in my opinion some of the highest density of game in the Masai Mara. The views from the hotel are fantastic.

The negatives: The design of the hotel is slightly odd - a little like the Flintstones! The lodge is large (74 rooms) so the service is not very individual and the pool is too small for the number of guests staying there. The rooms got very hot and there was no AC or even a fan, which would have been much appreciated, and as others have suggested it isn't recommended to leave the windows open due to baboons and snakes (we had a black mamba outside our window!) so they can get a little stuffy in late afternoon and evenings.

However, the food was delicious and the rooms large enough, peaceful and comfortable (despite the heat).

As the location is prime for game drives I would recommend the Mara Serena, but if you have stayed at smaller lodges you may feel slightly disappointed, and the quality is not quite up to scratch of Serena Hotels elsewhere.

“The Crown of the Mara Triangle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Excellent, excellent location. One the only 3 lodges 'inside' the Mara!! Worth every bit! Including the slightly longer journey to reach the lodge. But this is as good as a game drive. Excellent game viewing - you can see huge herds of Wilderbeest & Zebra from the bar or your room. Great food, 'can do' attitude of the staff & unique rooms styles. A 'must go' place.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the Mara Triangle - so no worries!

“Lovely room views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

The hotel decoration is very nice  specially the bangalows have a stunning view overlooking the Mara.

The room decoration is great, but there is no ventilation except if you open the window. And we were advised to keep it closed cause the baboons can come in. The room has no Ac or ceiling fan and can get quite stuffy on hot days. However a portable fan was provided to us on request.

Food is ok and staff are friendly. Best thing about the hotel is the room views and deco.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a good view. For people that have problem with walking you might want to ask for...

“6th one in Big 5”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

An amazing property in the center of the reserve and worth every penny spent. Staff is very polite and eager to help and they really go out of the way to assist you. A perfect Hakuna Matata attitude. We stayed in Mara for 3 nights and enjoyed every bit of it.

When in Mara visit Mara Sarena.

Room Tip: all room as good.

“Amazing Location Worth 5 Stars Alone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

What a location. On a cliff overlooking the Maasai Mara and the Mara River and the Great Migration. The pool area very nice with beautiful views. Loved their food and drinks poolside. The rooms kind of unique. But what is the creme de la creme were the game drives. Amazing wildlife. You can see the \herds of migration assembling near the river. That is to the time to gho down the mountain and enjoy the spectacle. One of the best of the natural world. Plan to come back again some day. Overall a once in a lifetime experience.
