“Experience of a lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The rooms, service, location and friendliness of everyone was beyond expectations! Daniel, our driver, was a compendium of knowledge and was able to seek out even the rarest of animals on game rides. We saw all of the Ugly Five and 4 of the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo. Fauziah, our butler, must have ESP because she anticipated our every need. I loved sampling the local dishes every night at dinner. The ultimate was relaxing with a glass of white wine on the deck on the last night when a group of 8 giraffes walked by! I will be back!

Room Tip: All were good!

This place was so much more than we expected. The people. the tent, the setting, the hippos, the game drives were just AMAZING!!!!!
I can only echo all the previous 5 star reviews and only add being there is even better.
Please just go, you will not regret it. One of the best things I have done in my life.
I want to thank all the staff again, they were so kind and attentive. You ask anything, they will try to make it happen for you. I felt very spoilt indeed.

My visit to Masai Mara a second time, to stay at Exploreans this time proved a better experience than even the last time, which was memorable...Exploreans however lives up to the high standards associated with the brand...my previous visit at Exploreans Ngorongoro was great as well...The tents are beautiful, epitome of luxury without being overdone..wooden flooring, comfortable beds...amazing bathrooms. The best thing is the hot showers at anytime of the day or night, even at 6 AM for the morning game drives..the service is impeccable. Waiters at the restaurant, the private butler, the driver appointed for every guest who picks one up from the close by Mara North airstrip and then takes you for game drives..down to the ladies at the spa and the reception, everyone was warm, smiling and seemed ever so ready to take care of every need without being intrusive. This cannot come about without great supervision and that was taken care of by the manager, Madam Marie-Chantal who is a real gem.
We were two people and had the bestest stay ever. The food is very good, with the ala carte 4-5 course menu offering different options every day. Breakfast is superb, the good thing is you get to sample everything and order as many times as ones' stomach can possibly take, without overdoing the gluttony bit as in buffets at most hotel breakfasts.
The presentation of every course is so good that one forgets one is at a Bush camp, albeit a luxurious one! The lobby of the hotel, or the open reception area is well fitted with immensely comfortable sofas, done in earthy tones and stocked with a good collection of coffee table books on the Masai culture and on the African wildlife. Exploreans offers its guests free morning and evening game drives. You can also take the car and driver for the full day to the neighbouring Maasai Mara Game Reserve (since Exploreans is located in the Mara North Conservancy area) and pay 80$ pp at the gate. From then on its you and plenty of big game, the open vistas and the most beautiful landscape imaginable. The experience of having lunch out in the Busha a 10-minute drive away from the tree sheltering two cheetas taking their afternoon rest was unmatchable. The picnic boxes given by the lodge were good as well, only thing they can improve is their sandwiches (we opted for these and not wraps). The Exploreans at Ngorongoro Tanzania have better packed lunches. But it was sublime having the lunch out in the Bush anyways. Every game drive, your car is provided with a cooler stocked with water and drinks.
We were lucky enough to see plenty of lions, leopards and cheetas besides the Buffaloes, Giraffes, Zebras and Elephants etc. Many animals were also viewed in the MNC and not only the Mara Park, so for those who do not want to spend another 80$pp, this would be sufficient, however its a shame not to experience Mara itself if one has come all the way and has spent enough to stay here. My previous stay in the area was at the Fairmont Masai Mara, which was also good, but i feel i made the right choice in choosing Exploreans this time. The grunting of the hippos keeps you awake most of the first night at least but you get used to it..There are always the Masai security guards who escort you to your tent and reception area as soon as its dark. So one feels secure all the time.
Lunch is served usually on the terrace by the pool overlooking the Mara River. Directly in front are the hills, the view is breathtaking.
The laundry is part of the all inclusive package which is a good idea esp if one has been traveling for some days and need fresh clothes. The toiletries provided by the hotel are of a especially good quality. The towels are great, soft, white and fluffy. It may sound strange why i mention towels but after staying at two fairmont properties (Mount Kenya and Nairobi) i need to stress this: disappointingly Fairmont Norfolk;s towels looked old, thin and threadbare, of a yellowish colour, something I was not really happy about..
Our driver, Daniel was really informative and went out of his way, taking different routes to track down animals we wanted to see, maybe we were lucky or he was really good and intuitive, every time he proved lucky!
Would I return to Mara Exploreans? definitely, yes. I am sure other properties in the area are also good but the warmth and great service not to mention the comfort i experienced at this lodge, has won me over.

Room Tip: I asked for a tent near the reception, was given Tent No:9, Giraffe, but it does not really matter a...

Every great thing that has been said about this place is true. The location of the camp, along a bend in the Mara River (with a gorgeous view of the hills in the background), allows you to watch hippos bathe in the river while you lounge by the pool. Everyone on the staff was kind, welcoming and efficient. We are particularly grateful for our charming and highly knowledgeable guide, David Ng’ang’a Waithaka, who made sure that we saw everything.

Our short trip to the Exploreans Mara Rianta Camp was one of our most exciting and enjoyable vacations we have ever taken! The off-season timing (May) was ideal - post-rain and pre-migration crowds, with no shortage of animals or lack of excitement!

The accommodations were exceptional: very luxurious and comfortable tents with views of the Mara River and its pods of "talkative" hippos. Mara Rianta offers outstanding service from sunrise to sunset starting with the in-person wake-up call complete with coffee / tea service prior to the morning's game ride and ending with the turndown service replete with a hot water bottle to warm the sheets!

The main lodge where meals are served is very well appointed and cozy. I highly recommend visiting the small bar area for a cocktail or glass of wine before dinner. The food, although a bit ordinary, is more than adequate especially given the camp's location in a remote area of the North Conservation Masai Mara Reserve. The restaurant staff is very professional and friendly. In fact, one evening the entire kitchen and wait staff came bearing cake to sing their version of happy birthday to a member of our party.

The star of the whole experience, however, was our safari guide, David Ng'ang'a Waithaka! David was friendly, engaging, funny and very knowledgeable about animals and the conservancy. He used all resources available to him, including calling upon local rangers, to try and locate the animals we hadn't yet seen. He did not disappoint! We saw lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, warthogs and Thomson's gazelles, just to name a few of the stars!

The special excursion to the Masai tribal village was exceptional. The villagers were warm and friendly and the sights and sounds were amazing. I highly recommend this excursion.

We cannot wait to return to Exploreans Mara Rianta!

This is one of the best experiences ever. The tents are fully equipped, with a superb bathroom with bathtub and large walking in shower. We felt very welcomed, staff is highly qualified on all levels. We had tent number 14 with view on the river where we woke up with the sounds of the hippopotamus.
Food is of outstanding quality, chef is making sure that you receive the best. Also the safaris done by the well trained guides and drivers is also an experience. There knowledge of animals, flowers, trees, nature is outstanding. I have no other words to add that this is better then best! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All tents are well located

A warm welcome awaits you in the Exploreans Mara Rianta Camp. The staff work as a seamless team - you receive a very personal service and do not feel you are just another traveller passing through. The care and attention to every detail gives you every confidence you will be taken care of. The safari driver we had was amazing - he was able to track key animals and took care to ensure every expectation was met. The quality of the accommodation and the wonderful gourmet foods took you to a warm colonial era which is timeless. This hotel camp is the way to experience a safari in style.

Room Tip: All the 'tents' are the same - immaculate quality which comes with your own butler.
