“Safe, clean & comfortabel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We were visiting the camp with "Mama Zebra" tour. The camp environment was very safe. Our tents were very comfortable and clean. The staff supplied with hot water every afternoon for shower and the beds were warmed up by hot water bottles before sleeping.
All the meals were tasty and generous. The camp staff was very service minded.
The tour guides who were supporting us were very knowledgeable and great driver. It was a lovely experience to be exposed to the massai culture by people at the camp and their mates who were supporting us at the safaris.

Modest tented accommodation with toilet & separate manual shower stall, was clean and well maintained. We were entertained by a Masai dance put on by the staff members. The food was good.
Our game driver Julius was excellent, we saw the most abundant wildlife in the Mara, right from the time we were picked up at the airstrip, our ride to the JK Mara camp provided many animals for viewing along the way, hippo, crocodile, zebra to name a few.
We also saw the most beautiful African sunset ever and got some great pics of landscapes as well as many many animals.

This place could do just a few small things to make the stay more enjoyable: 1) offer some real or better coffee. at breakfast we got hot water and a beaten up tin of "Africafe" instant coffee with a soiled spoon and an inch of coffee powder in the bottom. 2) show some interest in the patrons. there were 5 kids around, apparently the proprietor's, who cleaned out the buffet, sucked up the attention of the staff and made so much noise in the bar area that we could not hold a conversation. The owner was completely indifferent and at one point only asked us about our day, not our stay. too bad, I say try a different place. tents are nice but the toilet seat was broken causing one to tip to the left when on the seat.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of Sept 2011. On arrival we were greeted by local Masai people who are employed to run this wonderful camp. This was our first ever Safari /camp & we were pleasantly surprised by how clean & comfortable the camp was. Our tent had everything we needed, with wildlife all around, you fall asleep to the sound of Africa. The food was good & the chef comes to check everything is okay with the guests/campers. At bed-time you are escorted back to your tent by the Masai guards, who also stay up all night keeping the camp safe from wild animals. Amazing experience & if we are lucky enough to go back to Kenya/Masai Mara we will definitely stay at this camp again. It is also only a few minutes’ drive to one of the gates for the Masai Mara.

Situated just 5 kms outside Talek Gate (Entry point to the Masai Mara National Reserve), JK Mara Tented Camp is the perfect place for all those who enjoy staying among nature and the wild. The camp is run in collaboration with the local masai community. The camp has a nice entrance with a tented reception where you are given a local welcome drink after which you are taken to your accomodation. The tented accomodation is big with two single beds and ensuite toilet and bathroom. The accomodation comes with full board basis where you are served breakfast, lunch and dinner. The choice and quality of food is very good. The staff are very friendly with their impeccable service. The camp also provides you with lunch boxes for your safari trip so that you do not waste time coming back and forth for lunch as the reserve closes at 6pm. The camp organises a night safari, but it is on the ourskirts of the national reserve as they are not allowed to enter after 6pm. There is a nice lounge and bar where you can enjoy a good drink and watch the masai community perform their traditional dance. All in all an excellent place to spend your safari at the Masai Mara.
