We weren't staying in the National Reserve, but in Mara North Conservancy. However, we were assured Governor's Balloon Safaris' were the best in the area, so we got up at 3.30am and set off. Governor's had sent Mark to come and collect us and he drove us down there and back to meet our guide once we were done.
The safety briefing was clear and the basket very comfortable. It was a beautiful day for a flight and our pilot, David, kept us informed at all times, keeping very patient with 6 passengers who didn't speak a word of English.
David provided great variety - both high and low flying, spinning the basket to ensure everyone got a good view of the surroundings.
The landing, despite being warned about the bumps that termite mounds cause, was no worse than the Runaway Mine Train at your local theme park. We even landed upright!
We were whisked to 400 yards back to where breakfast was set up - and we enjoyed fizz, a full English breakfast, pancakes, fruit, tea and coffee. Amazing what you can do on a twin balloon burner in the middle of the savannah!
A great experience and one that we would heartily recommend others took.
