“Magnifico!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

Beautiful lodge with four poster beds in the tent with large shower/wet room & flushing loo:-)

Great knowledgeable driver and we saw all of the BIG FiVE and more!

Room 45 we had was at the end of the block so it was quiet but the water took longer to get to us and ten mins to run hot but hey, what's the rush LOL. The pool are has only 20 sun beds yet when full there could be 90 guests.

Three courses at breakfast, lunch and dinner so glad we only did three nights which I think is all you need.

Staff very polite and game drives superb at 6.30 am for a Dawn safari and 4pm concluding with a sunset safari.

Negatives? A Spa would be a great addition after those bumpy rides:-)

Every image you conjure upon looking at this Camp which not only excites you but tingles that nerve to say "this is different" fulfills that wish to bring back the golden days of travel and in luxury and modern style too.

The tents are spread across the hilltop as the hotel is right beside the river. You cant actually tell this very well from inside the camp because of the dense greenery but your tent is an oasis in the expanse.

They are solid base wooden floor platforms with permanent shower, toilet and large bathroom area. The canvas is stretched over the base with a large four poster bed, desk and mirror, double arm chair and balcony with sun lounger bed. A fan and the breeze is all you get for coolness but the photos dont lie and it is just as nice as your web browsing has shown you.

The food and dining hall is very nice, reception has torch leasing, concierge, money exchange and a gift shop. The food is very good and was very varied and was the most consistent in terms of delivering high standards during our tour of kenya.

You are at the very heart of the masai mara here and journey is long and bumpy, the game drives are brilliant and I thoroughly recommend the hot air balloon ride with the champagne breakfast. One of the most amazing things you will ever do!

Drinks prices were above average for Kenya but you are 320kms from civilisation so that is fair enough as far as I am concerned.

We stayed at the camp for 2 nights as part of our safari tour and were pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and homely it was.

It was a bit cold in the mornings but if you request a hot water bottle and use your dressing gown you should be fine.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very nice.

We saw some amazing sights on the safari itself and from the reception area of the camp (overlooking the river), you can see hippos and if your lucky, the odd crocodile. Definitely take your binoculars!

Arrived at this camp after a long road trip from Lake Nakuru, upon entering the Mara within 20 minutes we were lucky enough to see a Cheetah bring down a young wildebeest. The camp itself is situated right on the Mara river with the sound of Hippos going about their daily business echoing around the camp. The camp is ideally suited to seeing the Great Migration and we saw thousands of migratory animals waiting to cross the river. We also saw two male lions dragging a wildebeest and zebra up from the Mara river, a truly remarkable experience. The Mara is a truly excellent place to see Kenyas wildlifeThe tented camp is excellent with the accomadation more than adequate for your stay in the Mara, the tents have good comfortable beds each with mosquito nets and the batroom facilities are excellent. the food in the reataurant is good with plenty of variety and the staff are very friendly and will help you without hesitation with any of your requests. It has a reasonably priced gift shop which also sells toiletries should you need them. Would I come back here ? then the answer has got to be yes in fact we are already looking at an itinery for next year to include this camp. Thanks to everyone at the Ashnil for making our stay an wxcellent experience.

This is a tent camp in the masai mara along the bank of the river with all modern amenities. Its fab to have breakfast watching the hippos in the river. The food was excellent with a wide range of cuisines of good quality. All drinks have to be paid for and this is a real pain. The game drives are superb. The wildebeest crossing was amazing.Sadly Rhinos are becoming more scarce and difficult to spot. Our guide was Alan, young and enthusiastic and sharp eyed to spot all the birds and animals. There isn't much to do in the evenings and kids may find it hard. No TV but mobile phones work!

Room Tip: Ask for a riverside room. They are quieter and have fab views from the 'balcony'

Really friendly / obliging reception staff. Excellent waiter calles Moses.

Good set-up. Only gripe was pool / pool area small and gets easily overcrowded.
