“Simple but does the job”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We stayed here for two nights as part of our safari to the Mara and Amboseli. Tents and common areas are simple and clean but fine for a short stay. Dinners were never great but breakfast was much better. Limited electricity doesn't matter as you're out all day doing game drives, and it was nice to have hot, running water (albeit dodgy water pressure) at the end of a long, dusty day. By the time we reached our accommodation (similar permanent tented camp) in Amboseli, where service was sloppy and hot, running water patchy or completely non-existent, we realised how good we had it at Manyatta Camp after all!

I stayed here as part of a volunteering trip to Kenya. This place was so good! Lovely friendly people, lovely food, lovely scenery, felt very safe.
The tents were considered luxurious to me as I'd been in a home stay previous to this that didn't have showers! They were clean and had everything I needed.
If I ever return to Masai Mara I'd definitely come back here.

I visited this camp while on a volunteer trip may 2014. I loved everything about it! We had the most amazing safari driver (Joseph). I don't know how he spotted the animals half the time--it would be one small rustle in the bush at quite a distance and he'd spot it! The food was typical Kenyan food, but so good! And the view at breakfast was outstanding. Considering the homestay I had as a volunteer (no running water, toliets,or showers and limited electricity) the camp seemed luxurious! There was a member of the Masai Tribe that guarded us at night. The masai mara is beautiful, I saw elephants, giraffes, hippos, gazelle, lions, a cheetah, a leopard, wildebeest, and so much more , I'm so glad I went--worth every penny! :)

The camp is very near the entry gate to Masai Mara. The vegetation around the camp is very natural and the wind blowing in the evening is normally very refreshing and especially after a long game drive. Unlike the many camps, they have a standby generator hence you have access to warm water. The tented and thatched houses are neatly built and the rooms are very smart and spacious. You will really get value for money on the food which is normally served in a good structure built like a Maasai manyatta. The staff who works there are very friendly and you would always want to come again.

Room Tip: The newly built tents in the down side are very nice and spacious unlike the old tents which are sma...

Tents with roofs were sturdy, clean, and comfortable. View was amazing. The food was typical Kenyan and might get tiring if you're planning to stay more than a few nights. It was perfect for our one-night stay. The Maasai guards and the stars at night after the generator was turned off were bonuses.

Simplicity rules at Manyatta Camp.

The tents are clean, designers have never been to their bathrooms but everything works just fine. There is hot water in the shower, the toilet will flush, there is soap and towels. If you are an ex-boyscout you will find it luxurious.
The food is very simple, typical Kenyan. Don't expect gourmet experience but they will not leave you hungry.
The staff is OK, however, tends to stick to their plans and their instinctive reaction to any request is "impossible". We were placed in a twin tent and when asked for a double bed they said they didn't have any. We took a short trip through the cam and found at least 5, unoccupied. Then everything became "possible" again.
The trip is a bit of a hassle - last two hours on the dirt road are not exactly a great pleasure but then you arrive to a place which is only about a minute drive from the Masaai Mara gate where the fun begins.
And this is what really matters when your objective is to see the game in one of the most spectacular parks in the world.
For a honeymoon, I would look for more design and sophistication.

This is a REAL budget camp in the Masai Mara (NOT inside the Reserve).
I visited this camp between 13th and 15th December 2013 with a friend of mine who was home for the Christmas holiday.from the USA.
The reception area of Manyatta camp was as basic as they come and so were the rooms.. Little beds(And i mean little) and very basic ablution area. At least there was water throughout and the toilets were flushing.
The dining area is open plan and was very very cold and we had to demand a jiko to warm us up. The food is also basic and served buffet style.
The staff were good and actually responded and acted on all problems.
However, the owner needs to style up and INVEST HEAVILY in rehabilitating the tents. Our first tent was not zipping up properly and we slept in a rather cold room.
Secondly the owner/manager needs to place palstic chairs in the tents for her clients to place their bags...I would suggest at least four plastic chairs per room.
Also make sure there is HOT water in the evening so that pple coming from game drives can shower before going for dinner.
Fix the sink taps and invest in proper bedsheets....I could sell you some at good qaulity bedsheets at throwaway price if you buy in bulk. As a rule, hotel sheets should be in plain colours and preferably white NOT flowered.
HYGIENE levels need improvement, for example your kitchen staff need uniform and gloves and proper dishcloths and table wipers.
On a positive note, the camp is situated on a beautiful landscape and is picture perfect no matter what time of day.
There is need to pave the paths leading to the tents esp coz of mud during the rainy season, like what we experienced.

Room Tip: Since this is a budget camp, ensure that your tent has zips that actually zip up or else you will f...
