“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Maji Moto is a very special place in the middle of nature. You have a fantastic view, especially when the sun goes down. We enjoyed the nature walks with great guides and a very interesting visit to the local school. You get to know a lot of Massai culture, especially on the walks or while sitting at the campfire in the evening and listening to their stories. The tents are simple but we slept very well. We liked the food, special thanks to Flo and her team who are always trying to improve. The hot spring is one of the most romantic places I have ever been to. We warmly recommend this place to people who look for some good cultural experience!

This place is not a luxury camp. It is out in the middle of nowhere. You sleep in smallish tents on mattresses on the ground. We had 3 people in each tent and there isn't much room for anything else. You don't get flushing toliets or hot water showers. You are exposed to the elements most of the time. You don't get gourmet food, you eat outside or a swimming pool. You also don't get to see many animals if you come during the dry season like we did.

You do get an awesome cultural experience. We went to the local school which was one of the highlights of our entire trip. We had warrior training with bows and arrows, and the jump dancing. Oh we also participated (sort of) in the wildest stick throwing fight I've ever seen. The food was basic and we liked it better than the food we got at the nicer camps. The beds were comfortable and I slept like a baby. The landscape was not beautiful like the Masaai Mara but it had it's own vast granduer. You also can get to know the staff who are all very friendly and have the wildest stories I've ever heard. My favorite part was talking to the staff about their lives and culture.

This place is unique. Just make sure it is what you want. If you are looking for a great cultural experience, this place is it. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Dear Jdhale, I am glad you liked our camp. And yes, the way you have written, that's how it is... it is to break the standard routine of classic safaris with some genuine Maasai cultural meetings combined with great outdoors. Next time when round we shell take you on our trekking safari from the camp to Masai Mara... 3 days of walking and sleeping out in complete wilderness ;) Thanks once again for your visit. I wish you and your family all the best. Roman

Lovely and peacefull place in nature. Exellent guides voor nature walks.
Good food. Nice views. Visiting the spring in the evening was super.
a place we will not forget on our Trip trough Kenia.
When it is raining, the roads are very wet, so take a good driver on your Journey.

Room Tip: Don't miss this place !!

We had really high expectations when booking this eco camp we really wanted to experience the Masai culture we booked for a 3 day stay on the first day we got terribly lost due to the map given to use by the agents did not adequate directions and bad signage and some of the agents we called for assistance could not give us correct directions we eventually got there after spending a whole day getting lost.

The camp guides and hosts are really the best in the world once you get there, the food was amazing and the tents comfortable, there was no hot water for showering whatsoever despite the weather being very cold, the toilets although constructed well are long drops and smell very bad and are located away from your tent meaning not user friendly at night.

The hot spring bath was an experience in itself i guess i was expecting a pool of some sorts but
the water barely came up to our ankles but since we had not seen hot water in the camp and we where freezing we were happy to drive to the hot springs to wash ourselves there to get warm.

Chief Sankale and his team really did go all out to make us comfortable as much as they could, thanks to them our trip did not end up being disastrous, and because they tried so hard to make up for the agents short comings we actually enjoyed our conversations around the fire.

i strongly feel their agent eyes on Africa is letting them down tremendously, guest expectations should be managed properly. Anyone going there please make sure you get all that you have been promised otherwise you can get there same experience elsewhere for free

The food is really good and wholesome thanks to Chef Silas, we made great friends with the team, i would return only to support the team.

Room Tip: The tents are the same

Dear Gee K.

Sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations…
Although, reading from your review you head a very good time at the camp!
I understand your biggest disappointment about us, is because of you getting lost on the way to our place.

In deed SELF-DRIVE safaris round Kenya are not the easiest thing to do. Roads are bad with hardly any road signs.

Our route-map, that we delivered to you, is the same map that all our clients receive before arrival. Unfortunately you are the first one to get lost in all the years we operate.

The same map is also available on our web page as PDF to download. Map clearly shows the way as it is a picture from Google-Maps. It also contains GPS coordinates, description of how to reach there, camp-manager contact numbers as well as our office numbers… but as every other map, it still requires some common sense of directions to understand it!

As already discussed over the telephone, I can only say once again, Sorry for all the inconvenience caused.

Yours truly, Roman

Tanks to chief Sankale, Kiseya and the other crew members we had a wonderful and very special time at this beautifully located Eco Camp. The camp has been constructed with great care and respect for traditions and nature, and offers a breathtaking panorama view on the semi-arid Loita plain. The tents have comfortable beds and from ours we could see the Masai herding their cows in the morning and evening. The food is tasty, but the main selling point is the friendliness of the good-humored staff, who take you on nature walks, teach you about trees, plants, animals and Masai traditions. Highlight: the nightly walk to the hot springs and taking a hot bath in a pool lit by oil lamps.

I really had a good time staying in the Maji Moto Eco Camp. First of all is the food really good, the location amazing and the atmosphere is the best. Then this camp differs from the other camps near Masai Mara. It is an Eco Camp, and therefore ecological. The most amazing experience here was the hot springs and bathing in them. The staff of Maji Moto Eco Camp takes really good care of you and makes sure you always feel comfortable. Also the interaction with Masai culture is an experience that will stay with you forever!
