“This is unforgettable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We visited Ngerende in Jan.2013. From all our trips around the world (we travel a lot), the Ngerende experience remains the most amazing and unlike anything any other. The staff, the food, the atmosphere make you forget about any other standards. Special thanks to Evans who made our stay so comfortable in all respects. When we needed a tea or other drink, before even asking for it, Evans was already preparing it. One day it was raining and we didn't have appropriate shoes to visit the neighboring Massai village. Evans took off his own boots and gave them to us. We have never experienced such a warm welcoming anywhere else. Thank you!

From the moment we arrived at Ngerende we were treated with such generosity and warmth, I never wanted to leave! The ambience is soothing, "tents" with fireplace, covered porch, and a better closet than I have at home! Each evening upon return we found a hot bath drawn for us, scented with oils, overlooking the river with mama and baby hippo on the bank. The location is unbelievable, the accommodations first class, but neither of those are the best thing about Ngerende. The Chef's talents are so diverse, he was an absolute pleasure to watch as he prepared delicious, satisfying meals. He has the best smile! The Maasai guides are fantastic! Each person on the staff gives the absolute best of themselves to make your stay everything you hope it to be. I'd come back to the Mara just to be able to stay here again!

I cannot begin to explain how FANTASTIC Ngerende Lodge and Ngerende in the Wild is - the 200 character minimum does not allow the descriptors required ! The setting is breath-taking; the staff hands down are the best I have encountered in my years of traveling in 70 countries; the accommodation is beautifully appointed, luxurious without losing the essence of Kenya wilderness, uber comfy beds, plenty of space for personal items/clothes, superb showers/hot water/etc; DELICIOUS food one would expect in best restaurants in NYC or London or the like with the kindest and most professional chef; extremely experienced and talented guides (LENG rocks !), and a dedication to service that is unparalleled - excellent service with genuine caring and concern to provide the best experience possible. LOVED IT. LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. Repeat and life long customer for sure !!!

Room Tip: ALL rooms are phenomenal. However, if you can afford a bit more - whether you are on honeymoon or n...

Ngerende Island Lodge is just PERFECTION !!

Everything was superb from a wonderful greeting with the Masai to a sad (I did not want to leave) departure. Michael and I spent 4 nights and 4 days and we have been treated like King and Queen.
The team pampered us at all levels. A big thank you to all of them, you all made my trip an unforgettable experience. Thanks to Leng & Charles, our best driver/guides ever, they were excellent and have such a broad knowledge in animals, Kenya culture, Masai history). It was the best safari ever. Thanks to Walter, our favourite friendly butler for taking care so much of us, he always smiles which is a delight. Thanks to Linet & Catherine for organising our trip and gaming drives and for being so nice. Thanks to Daniel, for being so open, friendly and informative.

The location of the lodge is beautifully set by the river and you wake up every morning with the Hippos. Wonderful experience! Our bedroom was immaculate, the food is delicious, thanks to Wellington. We enjoyed it so much.

What else to say. If you plan a safari, Ngerende is the place to be. I would highly recommend it. Welcome is first class, Service Top Notch, Location excellent and Team a sheer delight. They cannot do better than that.

Big thanks again to all of you.
Estelle & Michael X

Room Tip: All lodges are beautiful and spotless.

This was our second visit to Ngerende and we loved it, just like last time. We went back because the staff went above and beyond in every way possible, such as completely revising the dinner menu after we mentioned that we would like to try local food. We requested Stephen as our guide again, and he again proved encyclopedic in his knowledge of the flora and fauna.

Room Tip: Every tent is located on the river. The tents closer to the dining area are a slightly shorter walk...

Ngerende Island Lodge is the most amazing place I have ever been to! Everyone made us feel like at home and no ask was too big, from customized program to chef cooking on the terrace of the lodge! Food is fantastic and fresh. tepanyaki dinner was a brilliant surprise! Tents are fabulous, accompanied with a hot bath ready for you after a long day on the safari and hot water bottles in bed. Guides are knowledgeable and great fun to be around. A private butler will take care of all your needs and be a friendly face in this amazing land. We have been lucky to come in a quiet time and the four of us had the whole place to ourselves, we absolutely loved it! We will definitely go back and recommend it to everyone, worth every penny! If you're visiting the Mara Ngerende Lodge is the place to stay in!

We travel a lot and so far this has been the best experience we have ever had when it comes to service and hospitality. The only problem was that the Lodge was so nice (with our room overlooking a hippo pool), it's easy to stay there and not go for a game drive: the room, the pool area, the spa, the restaurant are all nice places to just hang out and watch the hippos and crocodiles in the river. Room was superb: large comfy bed, fireplace, hot bath & shower from solar heating, flushing toilet. Also very nice spa on-site with great view of hippos and crocs, with the occasional monkey passing by. An experience of a lifetime! It is exactly as shown on their website. Electrical power was available all the time we were (awake) at the lodge. Game drives were great! Steve is an excellent driver, and he knows how to find the animals! It was like being in National Geographic live! We saw lots of animals: zebras, giraffes, impalas, wildebeests, buffaloes, cheetah, jackals, hyenas, elephants, baboons, monkeys, lions (some with fresh kills), etc. etc. We highly recommend the full-day game drive to the Masai Mara National Park. The game walk with Masai Daniel passing by the nearby Masai village was very interesting. The chef was excellent and discussed every meal with us. Our private butler Evans was attentive to our every need and beyond. Ngerende also supports the local Masai, such as building a school for the Masai children. The lodge is fantastic, but what impressed us most is the level of personalized service. They really want you to have a great time, and that is what you get. We highly recommend Ngerende for an unforgettable experience!
