“Love the Ilkeliani Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We were a group of six friends and opted to fly into the Mara rather than drive . We were met by Edward a charming Masai driver guide who met us at the aircraft and helped carry our luggage. The drive to the camp was an experience and saw herds of gnus , elephants and female lion under a tree . The car was open and that made the safari more close to the action. Checked into the east wing and the tents were amazing with good bathrooms . Bird life in camp
Was prolific and the camp grounds were were natural and well kept. Charles the manager was on hand to look after us and as were all the staff . Free wifi connectivity was a bonus to us . Enjoyed the half day picnic game drive to the Mara river

Overall had a good safari experience

We visited in the last week of Aug and had a comfortable 3 night stay, complete with caring staff, good food and amazing game drives. The tents are so comfortable with hot water and electricity was never an issue.
Moses was an excellent guide! They made our first safari experience memorable. Would recommend to all.
Big Thumbs up!

We spent 2 nights here in the end of August. The camp is very well organized, with each and every member of the staff worthy of praise. The tents are large, with running hot and cold water. Electric lights (solar) are available from about 5 to 11 pm. The housekeeping is unobtrusive and efficient. My wife is vegan, and was happy to find her type of food too! We were made to feel safe and secure, with Masai guarding us all night. Again, thanks to all staff for making our stay memorable. Strongly recommended.

We stayed here only one night but it was a very nice experience. The tented camp is in the Masai Mara very close to the entrance of the national park, but to actually see animals other than gazelles you need to travel 30 more minutes.

The tents are very nicely done, you have a bathroom and to my surprise the water was always hot. There is a small common area (bar) where you can sit together with the others. During hours of darkness you have to call a guard to escort you whereever you need to go :) They had a spear with them. They told me that is because sometimes hippos will come and eat there.

There is no electricity after midnight till 5 am, and they switch it off at 10 am since everyone is out for a safari.

The food was okay, but a bit narrow selection, but I understand this as it is really in the middle of nowhere. The staff is extra nice and helpful.

There is no internet connection!

If you need 1-2 nights to stay at during your Masaii safari and you are okay with tents and guards during the night, this is a very good choice.

The tents are spacious and comfortable, even though they are not luxury. The staff makes you feel at home, the waiters and the nightguards are especially nice. Also, we were self-driving and we hired a guide which was a proper young masai warrior and he was really nice and helpful, and a great guide, he knew so much.
The food was not too great. The location is perfect for visiting Mara, it's just a 5 minute drive from the Talek gate.
We had a problem when paying by credit card, the machine wasn't working so we had to pay by cash, and since we didn't have ksh and only euros they offered us a good changing rate. In general however, they charge 10% extra when paying by card, so bring cash.

This is the nicest of the three camps we stayed in during our safari. The staff are very kind and the experience is quite out-of-the-ordinary. The camp is located very close to the entrance of the park. Accessing it does however require driving on some rough roads. There no swimming pool and no wifi.

We had nothing but travel troubles getting to Kenya, but once we set foot in Ilkeliani everything was perfect! We were picked up at the airstrip by our guide & at the camp received a warm welcome from the Masai staff with a cool towel & refreshing glass of apple juice.

Our tent (west 6) was very comfortable and even had a plug to charge our camera batteries. The food here was excellent (even the picnics!) & we never got the chance to get hungry. They served breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the main dining tent at a range of times so that you could eat at different times depending on your activity schedule. Lunch & dinner always had a soup course, followed by a main dish (meat or vegetarian option), with a side of rice/potato, some kind of vegetable, and finished off with a sweet desert. We also had the option to take picnic breakfasts or picnic lunches along on our game drives.

I loved that we were able to watch the wildlife from out tent's front porch, from the observation deck in the central camp area, and even from the porch outside the lounge. While at the camp we saw a crocodile, ducks, impalas, baboons, vervet monkeys, and countless birds. Our game drives with Dominic were outstanding. We told him we wanted to see cats & he led us to cheetahs, lions, a very shy leopard, and even some servals! And aside from the "usual" safari sights we saw an early morning wildebeest river crossing, an ostrich nest, a group of 7 adolescent male lions, and a cheetah jumped up on our vehicle's spare tire for a better look accross the Mara.

All the Masai at the camp were very friendly and helpful. We had a guide with flashlight to walk us to/from our tent when it was dark, the dining staff was very attentive, and everyone was always ready to help with whatever was needed. Our trip was for our anniversary/honeymoon and they had sparkling wine waiting in our tent upon arrival. On the 2nd day we returned from an early morning drive to find a bouquet of flowers in the tent! And when our 2nd camp had vehicle trouble & were late picking us up, Ilkeliani had somebody take us to our next destination.

Everything was above & beyond what we expected, and I hope we have the opportunity to visit again!
