“Incredible Experience”

This property was fantastic- we stayed for 2 nights and are already planning our next trip back! The breakfast watching the hippos in the water was great. As you drive here you think- are you kidding- this is so out of the way!- But it was worth every second of the drive. Loved it!

Stayed at the Mara Timbo for 2 nights from the 14th May.The camp is a bit of a drive to get there and the road not the best however..... The camp with the en-suite luxury tents were fantastic far superior to our 4 star hotel near Mombasa. On the first night we were the only guests staying their and the staff really wonderful, Special thanks to all, in particular Gideon the guest relations Manager and our excellent guide for the 3 days, Antony the bar person who's ...recommendations for the wine for dinner was excellent, Tafling (sorry if the spelling is wrong) our ever attentive Butler who was superb, the the long conversations we had with Julian? the naturist, who enlightened us to the Masai people and their traditions. It was great to sit and eat breakfast with the Hippo family in the river. The food freshly prepared and served hot to your table in the open air, bliss. Thouroughly recommend staying at Mara Timbo when you go on a safari. We arranged with our guide in the evening on our preferences for the next day game drive, we opted for the full day drive with an excellent packed lunch supplied by the camp and consumed on the reserve surrounded, at a safe distance, by a multitude of animals.

We've visited Kenya twice in the past three years and did many game drives and game spotting. But at Mara Timbo Camp it was the first time we sometimes actually felt like staying at our room, sitting on the terrace over the river, just observing the wild-life.

The tents are large, comfortable, and secluded. They have outdoor bath tubs! No prying eyes. What more do you want?. The furniture is comfortable.

Every morning we had breakfast at the river bank, together with 'their resident' hippos. And in the evening even the elephants came down to the water. What an experience!

The food at the camp is delicious, high standard, three course menus.

On the second day we went on safari. It was beautiful, and also taxing. In the evening it was time for a massage at their tree-house for a perfect conclusion of a perfect day.

And one of the most beautiful experiences I had was, when we left the camp with the Masai naturalist and some askaris for a Nature Walk. A few hundred feet from the camp we ran into a herd of giraffes. Wow.

We stayed for a week. We will definitely be back for migration!

We have been on a 14 days Safari through the main Nationalparks of Kenya by road. We dare say that Mara Timbo Camp is for sure one of the best camps we have been visiting during this trip.

The set up of the camp is breathtaking at Mara River, hippos in front of you during breakfast and lunch.

The tents are not just "tents" but houses made out of canvas, very stylish, very extraordinary, beautiful bathroom, very many nice details (i.e. hot water bottles at night in the bed) made our stay very much comfortable.

We were told by our driver guide that the road to Mara Timbo Camp was done recently. It is very good now and the camp easy to arrive in only 15min from the entrance to the Nationalpark. But anyway, there have been always so many animals on our way to the park, that we sometimes thought, it is not even worth while to pay the park fees, because we had seen so much even before we got inside the park, like elephants, any kind of antelopes, zebras, crocodiles and hippos in the river, Ilands, Baboons etc..

The camp itself is a dream. The food perfect: We always had the choice between three different 3-course menus, one always vegetarian.

The camp offers a very much personalized service, done by so called butlers. They are really very much attentive, whatever we wanted and needed, it was always there in a minute.

All in all, the camp is recommendable for sure. The money worth every penny.

My wife and me had been to Kenya three times before, because we love this country and its diversity of nature and wildlife. We had seen nationalparks like Amboseli and Tsavo East before, and last time shortly paid a visit to Masai Mara. We found out that we had to come back again for Migration and because of the beauty of Masai Mara. This time we had booked at a relatively new camp in Masai Mara called Mara Timbo Camp.

Only short after arrival we found out, that this was a good decision because the location of the camp in a loop of Mara River in the middle of the bush is very natural. All tents are lined up at the river bank. They are very spacious and elegant set up on a big terrace with a swing and an outdoor bathtub we enjoyed very much.

The dinner set up was what took our breath away – under the open sky around a romantic fireplace just next to the river with hippos grunting in background. The food is excellent and the staff very well trained.

The game drives start directly after having left the camp. We saw so many Elephants and Giraffes in the acacia bushes around the camp, as well as Antelopes and Impalas. For the migration they took us on a fully day game drive with picnic boxes so we had time even to wait at the crossing points where the wildebeest are gathering. What an unbelievable spectacular scenery that was. Thanks to our driver guide who convinced us to be patient and wait, we finally saw the crossing of – as he said – roughly 5.000 wildebeest in one go. Amazing! We were so grateful.

So all in all we really enjoyed our safari at Masai Mara very much. And the whole team of Mara Timbo Camp made our stay unforgettable.

This was my second visit to Masai, and this camp was unimpressive compared to the camp I stayed at on the previous visit. To start off with, it is a long way outside the camp. In addition, the service is mediocre with unreliable and apparently poorly trained staff. On the first morning, I was woken up unnecessarily early when the tea I had ordered arrived 40 minutes before the time I'd asked for it. On the second morning, no such problem -- the so-called "butler" didn't bring the tea at all. On the second day, no-one put fresh bottles of water in my room -- something I only discovered when I retired for the evening and wanted to clean my teeth. When you are paying around $500 a day, you'd think they could do a bit better than this. Finally, because they don't send separate cars to pick up people from the airport, you wasted quite a lot of time on your daily trips (on top of the long drive too and from the camp itself) going to the airport to drop off or pick up other travellers -- including waiting until their planes depart. Not sure why all the other reviews are so positive -- maybe the people have never been anywhere else on the Mara.

Although isolated, this luxury "tent" surpassed our wildest expectations. King-size beds with thick brocade comforters, glass sinks in a well-appointed bathroom, a charming personal butler, delicious meals overlooking a hippo pool, it all took our breath away. Warning: the road getting there is brutal, but this magnificent camp is well worth it. The staff is intelligent, friendly and well trained to give guests a memorable pampering. Every day we had freshly laundered clothes and every evening a hot-water bottle warmed our toes.
