“Great view, excellent hospitality - better than we could have ever imagined.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2010

My parents and I recently stayed at Mara West and it exceeded our expectations. The location offered superb views and I have the amazing sunrise photos to prove it. It is well worth the drive up the very bumpy road to get to this camp.

If camping were always this luxurious and relaxed, I would camp more often. I do not enjoy sleeping in tents, but it was hard to recognize the inside of our tent as anything other than a high quality hotel. The only trouble I had sleeping was trying to block out the sounds of the wild animals all around. The bed was the most comfortable of all the places we stayed.

Our family agrees that we enjoyed our stay at Mara West the most during our 2 week safari. The laid back atmosphere allowed us to completely relax and feel at home. We were treated like part of the Mara West family.

I look forward to returning to Kenya and staying at Mara West again.

Enjoyed the views of the Mara from our porch. The tents were more like permanent cottages. There was plenty of hot water once the attendants lit the fire for our personal water heater. The staff was helpful and kind. The only downside for me was the food, it was descent, but we had much better meals in other camps. The drive to get to the camp was a bit tedious since it's up on the escarpment. But it was worth it for the views from there. I would recommend taking sack lunches in order to stay in the park the full day and not have to drive back to camp mid day. I enjoyed staying here and more importantly spending time in the Mara, it's a must do if you're on safari.

Yes the place is in a beautiful area, and no doubt the class A site of the Mara West will be ok. But if you stay at the B site with your African friends because the A site is full ..well then make your self invisble at the A site because the American owner might allow you as a mzungu (white person) to drink a beer there, but no way your African friends are allowed to join you... NEVER NEVER AGAIN apartheid still rules here.

We visited Mara West the first time in 2007 and stayed in the tents. It was wonderful, then in 2008 we returned with 3 of our grandchildren and stayed in the rooms. They were beautiful. Every morning the sun would rise over the Mara and we could see the hot air balloon and hear the animals. A trip never forgotten.

If you're gonna do a safari, Mara West is the place! The lodging is comfortable and tasty food made by their on site chef. The staff were so friendly and accomodating! Our group was hopeful to find all the animals in the Big 5, and thanks to our safari guide, Stephen, we did it! We even saw the elusive Leopard, that many don't see. We were lucky! Once again, if you want that "once-in-a-lifetime" safari adventure on the Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya, Mara West won't disappoint!

Mara West has a great location. The view is amazing and often wild animals roam through camp. Once we saw giraffes walking right across the road. The living quarters are more than adequate with comfortable beds, reliable power and good maid services. The showers have that open feel and have a reliable supply of hot water. The kitchen is amazing. They can serve a variety of styles of food and if you are looking for something they will do their best to acquire it. Everything is very convenient with a visiting market, a laundry service, gift shops, beverages, etc. They really help you relax and take your mind off the small details so you can truly enjoy the beauty of Kenya
