When the restaurant has three CDs (Julio Iglesias, a Congolese band and Gospel), and when you find plastic flowers on your bed, you know you are in trouble... This hotel must have been nice, until probably about a decade ago. But these days it's highly overpriced, for outright bad quality. During my stay, the hot water failed to flow, the plumbing is such that I needed four towels to soak up leaked water from the shower, the toilet kept flushing.
Staff try to make up for the structural problems, but - honestly - Julio Iglesias? Three times a day?
It would suit the owner to invest in a few new CDs, and to tell his staff that ten-year old plastic flowers on the bed actually do make the place look cheap, and uncaring.
Furthermore - and beyond the influence of the managers or owner is the screaming town generator, a few hundred meters away.
Honestly: if uyou're looking for a nice place to stay on Lamu, there are absolutely better places, for much better value.
