“Disappointing after a long trip”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

We were booked at the Fairmount, but a tour group did not get back and there were no rooms, so we were moved to the sister hotel -- the Country Lodge. We were tired after many hours of travel across the ocean, and the reception at the Country Lodge was not particularly warm. The receptionist did not acknowledge our inconvenience. Nobody helped us with our luggage. Each of the three of us had trouble getting on the internet, and when we compared notes we learned that each time the receptions told us we had made mistakes or simply told us to keep entering the code, until finally (after 10 or 15 minutes) admitting she had a made a mistake and making a correction that allowed us to figure out how to get on (closing browers, resetting some things). After such a long trip and the unloading of luggage and Fairview, loading of luggage, drive, checkin, lugging of luggage to the rooms, and a planned 7 AM pickup, those 15 minutes, while not consequential in the grand scheme, were quite infuriating. Otherwise, the rooms are functional but not charming.I had no soap in the shower dispenser, but that is a minor quibble.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I am disappointed to learn that you did not enjoy your stay with us and for the inconvenience caused after being diverted from Fairview hotel next door to us.

Apologies over the poor service from one receptionist and for the time lost trying to get on the internet. Your observation has been shared with the entire team to ensure this does not recur. We would like to make it up to you as a gesture of our understanding for the inconvenience caused. Please make contact with our reservations office to facilitate this.

We hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back in future.

Regards,
Daniel | Joint Managing Director | Country Lodge

“Clean, nice rooms and next door to Fairmount Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

it's fine for a business trip but wouldn't stay there otherwise. The rooms are fine but there is limited room service and amenities. You could always walk next door to the sister hotel but then you might as well just stay there. However if you are on a budget, the rooms at country lodge are quite a lot bigger than the economy ones at Fairmount.

“secure and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

My first room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the entrance gate where at least one guard was always posted. Guards would often chat quite loudly throughout the night with their fellow guards or friends so I changed to a room at the back which was quiet. All quite minimalistic but reasonably comfortable and spotlessly clean. No food served apart from breakfast which was rather disappointing in terms of choice and quality; there's also a drinks etc dispenser which has a very limited selection. The mother hotel next door, the Fairview, has a pleasant garden with a bar and bar food, but it seems to close at about 9 pm.

“Minimal more than affordable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

During a business trip to Nairobi I have been in this hotel. I think that the tripadvisor reviews for this hotel are exagerated and are giving a very high evaluation for it considering the cost. 130US$ per night is not worth for what you get!
It could also be that we are in Africa and the prices are different than in Middle East and Asia, but the price per night is still very expensive for a 10m2 room and a very essential bathroom with just one soap and shampoo, it is too much. The furnitures are nice, no air-con, no frigo bar.
The common space is just reduced to the reception area. The corridor to access to the rooms is very narrow. Overall it seems to be a prison.
They only serve breakfast. For dinner you must move to Fairview hotel, 100m under the eyes of the security people, belonging to the same ownership. It could be good for business people leaving at 8.00am and coming back at 10.00pm, just for sleeping. Anyway the concept of minimal and environment friendly in this case it is only an excuse to make very good money!!

Room Tip: ask for high floor

“Great price, great place and in Nairobi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Great place for a few nights business trip. In Upper Hill so near the World Bank and DFID. Clean and simple rooms and staff were very sweet and helpful. Rate was reasonable for Nairobi and for the facilities. The hotel has no restaurant but have a delivery service and the sister hotel The Fairview is a 2 minute walk. Last time I was in Nairobi I was car jacked and robbed of all possessions on my way to airport so don't travel with all your goodies in one place! Enjoy.

Room Tip: Book early as heavily booked.
