“Clean, nice rooms and next door to Fairmount Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

it's fine for a business trip but wouldn't stay there otherwise. The rooms are fine but there is limited room service and amenities. You could always walk next door to the sister hotel but then you might as well just stay there. However if you are on a budget, the rooms at country lodge are quite a lot bigger than the economy ones at Fairmount.

My first room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the entrance gate where at least one guard was always posted. Guards would often chat quite loudly throughout the night with their fellow guards or friends so I changed to a room at the back which was quiet. All quite minimalistic but reasonably comfortable and spotlessly clean. No food served apart from breakfast which was rather disappointing in terms of choice and quality; there's also a drinks etc dispenser which has a very limited selection. The mother hotel next door, the Fairview, has a pleasant garden with a bar and bar food, but it seems to close at about 9 pm.

During a business trip to Nairobi I have been in this hotel. I think that the tripadvisor reviews for this hotel are exagerated and are giving a very high evaluation for it considering the cost. 130US$ per night is not worth for what you get!
It could also be that we are in Africa and the prices are different than in Middle East and Asia, but the price per night is still very expensive for a 10m2 room and a very essential bathroom with just one soap and shampoo, it is too much. The furnitures are nice, no air-con, no frigo bar.
The common space is just reduced to the reception area. The corridor to access to the rooms is very narrow. Overall it seems to be a prison.
They only serve breakfast. For dinner you must move to Fairview hotel, 100m under the eyes of the security people, belonging to the same ownership. It could be good for business people leaving at 8.00am and coming back at 10.00pm, just for sleeping. Anyway the concept of minimal and environment friendly in this case it is only an excuse to make very good money!!

Room Tip: ask for high floor

Great place for a few nights business trip. In Upper Hill so near the World Bank and DFID. Clean and simple rooms and staff were very sweet and helpful. Rate was reasonable for Nairobi and for the facilities. The hotel has no restaurant but have a delivery service and the sister hotel The Fairview is a 2 minute walk. Last time I was in Nairobi I was car jacked and robbed of all possessions on my way to airport so don't travel with all your goodies in one place! Enjoy.

Room Tip: Book early as heavily booked.

This hotel is pretty decent for business travellers. The wi-fi is a little spotty at times but overall it's fine.

Keep in mind you're not in London or Seoul, and can't expect things to be quite the same. (My review is relative to other hotels in Africa, not relative to similar properties in Europe or North America.)

The CL is cheaper than the Fairview next door, so you can stay at CL and enjoy the dining at Fairview while saving a bit of money. Rooms are clean and the property is safe.

The Country lodge is the small sister-hotel of the excellent Fairview Hotel in Nairobi. Since the latter of often fully booked, Country Lodge provides a cheaper, good value-for-money alternative. Rooms are comofrtable and clean, although occasional power problems happened a few times during my one-week stay. Wi-fi quality is quite alright. Breakfast is small but sufficient, fresh fruit is provided. The best things about the Country Lodge are its gym (very well equipped!) and its immediate proximity to Fairview, with its different restaurants and serene atmosphere.

This is the partner hotel to the Fairview, which is often completely booked up. It's perfectly good - pleasant breakfast, reliable WiFi, clean and airy with friendly and helpful staff. It doesn't have a restaurant on site but you can use the Fairview restaurants (fabulous) 100 metres away. It's also very secure.
