“Good modern hotel let down by some poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

This is a very good hotel in many ways (but, like most Nairobi hotels, not cheap at 13500 Shillings) - the room is very comfortable and the bathroom well designed (particularly good shower). Breakfast had limited choices but was of high quality. However, three aspects of the service could be improved.
1) We were given our room keycard without the usual small wallet giving the room number, so we had to write it down on a separate piece of paper.
2) The reception staff provided erratic service. For example, on one occasion we were kept waiting while she continued to look at her computer without any word of apology (We know her name but will spare her embarrassment).
3) Room service arrangements are unusual and not satisfactory for a hotel of this standard. It is actually called a 'take-away' service and, astonishingly, the food arrived in plastic containers with plastic knives and forks. We believe it was cooked in the Fairview next door, as this hotel does not have a full restaurant, and it did taste good, but for the high price charged the presentation was appalling. On top of all this, they even charged for the call made to order the food in spite of the fact that the Fairview is their sister hotel.
We would have given a higher overall rating if it were not for these criticisms of the service.

Thank you for your feedback.

One of the many reasons that Country Lodge offers such a great price is that it does not have any restaurants and it keeps all services to the bare minimum to ensure that guests can enjoy a good night’s sleep, a great breakfast, powerful free internet connection and a hot powerful shower all at a bargain price.

Food delivery- the 'simple takeaways from nearby restaurants" service would be impractical and more expensive with the addition of ordinary cutlery. The phone call is charged since the two hotels are separate brands with distinct product differences and there are no interconnections their ownership notwithstanding. The services of Country Lodge are very consistent with other limited service hotels.

Apologies over the poor service from one female receptionist. Your observation has been shared with the entire team to ensure this does not recur.

Wallet for room keycard- noted.

Spotless, great service, great WiFi, decent breakfast, safe and secure... what more could a business traveller want? Well: the only thing is that it lacks a space to comfortably meet with business partners. I usually meet them in the Fairview hotel next door (where you can also use the pool and have a great dinner), but since they are now more strickt when it comes to non-guests this is a bit harder...

In any case: Country Lodge is still a great value-for money. Don't expect unnecessary frills or luxury, do expect an always helpful and efficient staff and a comfortable room with a huge desk and sockets for really ALL your gadgets. Love it!

The Country Lodge is great hotel. Smaller but clean and efficient. The staff are professional and courteous. The room was comfortable and clean with a lovely view, large desk space and tucked away. The building does not have elevators but bellhops carry luggage upstairs for guests. The hotel offers free Wifi (a great plus!) which is sometimes slow but works well enough for most internet activities. My Skype call went in and out but no problems with email etc.

The hot breakfast was excellent - a self-serve buffett with bacon, sausage, omelets, meat cutlets, danishes, toast, fruit and cereal. Certainly much better than I've received at other facilities. Hotel next door with free delivery from nearby restaurants. Key card access to room hallways as well as rooms and security patrolling outside.

I've traveled a lot in Kenya, and have never before found a hotel of this quality for such a good price. For business travel, it is ideal: it is conveniently located, has reliable wifi (often a challenge in other places), a well-designed, attractive, clean, quiet, and comfortable room, plenty of desk space (also hard to find in many hotels), very comfortable bed, and a great hot breakfast. Every single staff person I talked with was friendly and helpful. The hotel has excellent security (also important in the city nicknamed "Nairobbery"). While it is missing a restaurant on site, there are several choices so close that it wasn't an issue. I would definitely stay here again, for either business or pleasure; in fact, it has become my new first choice.

This is a new business hotel in the quiet Upper Hill area of Nairobi. Prices are reasonable, and rooms are basic but more than acceptable for someone looking for business accommodation for a few days or a week. Services good and friendly, and a pretty good breakfast is included.
There is no restaurant, but there are many not too far away. The Fairview hotel next door has 3 restaurants, which are all quite good

Good WiFi connection in most areas of the hotel is free. This is a surprise as most other hotels in Nairobi charge a fortune for poor quality Internet. There is a simple but effective fitness centre for use of guests.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

Country Lodge is based on a great concept - functionality without the excesses I normally associate with hotels, especially in Nairobi. The rooms have a Swedish feel to the design; they are minimal yet meet all expectations (indeed I had the best shower I've had in Nairobi).

What most appealed to me was the low impact feel of the hotel; they have rainwater harvesting, the breakfast is full but one doesn't get the impression food will be thrown away and the staff are efficient rather than vacuous.

I found it comfortable and great value for money. Other reviews criticise the lack of dinner and lunch restaurant, I regard this as a plus as hotel restaurants are generally terrible. The Fairview and several other restaurants are nearby.
