“Very relaxing environment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

We traveled for our 11 day Kenya to Tanzania safari with my family, we loved all the arrangements made by one Thomas Didige of Affable Tours and Safaris, he recommended this lodge, I must say it was exactly what we were expecting, friendly staff, very nice food. I would recommend it to anyone any-day.

We appreciate our customers reviews and comment and it is nice to be attracting support from tour operators. Their opinion is valued because they have such experience of other hotels and safari operators in the area.

We travelled for 3 weeks in Tanzania and Kenya last year with our twin boys at the age of 3. We generally stayed at 3-4 star hotels but Kikuyu Lodge was our favourite of all the places we stayed. The reason we liked it so much was the friendliness and helpfulness of Trevor and Hannah who both made us feel at home instantly. They were also very good at arranging transport and suggesting places to see. Our boys loved staying here and still remember Trevor and Hannah.

I can warmly recommend Kikuyu Lodge to anyone who does not mind staying a bit out of Downtown Nairobi and who prefers a guesthouse feel to a more formal hotel ambience.

It is great for us to know our former guests have happy memories of their stay with us and very motivating for the staff. We all know that holidays are a special time for our guests and try to make their trip run as smoothly and as satisfying as possible. Many thanks.

Kikuyu - home away from home! Myself and two friends are on a 8month scooter trip, all the way from Cape Town to Dublin. Two and a half months into our trip we stayed at Kikuyu lodge and it felt like we were visiting old friends. Thank you for the great accommodation and food, I definitely recommend Kikuyu lodge. Hope to see you soon!

We stayed for several nights and used the Lodge as a base. We were extremely well looked after as a pensioner couple looking for both rest and excursions. Trevor arranged what ever transport was needed and sorted out any difficulties. Hannah cooked great meals, both local and international and covered all other housekeeping arrangements. This is more like sharing someone's home rather than an impersonal hotel. The garden is great for relaxing in and as bird watchers we found plenty there to keep us alert both in the garden and overhead. The only drawback is that the Nairobi traffic is appalling and we certainly wouldn't drive there.

Room Tip: All rooms are same level and overlook the garden

It is always a pleasure to meet guests and find out about their particular interest. Laurie and his wife were well travelled in Africa and their interest in bird watching is shared by some of our contacts here in Nairobi. It was nice for us that they had good safaris around the country but also that they found so many bird species in our garden. They were good company and I am glad they enjoyed their time here. There review is much appreciated.

I am nearing the end of a 3-week stay at the Kikuyu Lodge, and this is the second time that I have stayed here. I traveled here with a small missions team (World Impact Network) on both occaisions, and I want to say that Trevor and his staff (particularly Hannah) go out of their way to make your stay pleasant and accommodating. The meals prepared by Hannah are very good, the rooms are clean, and the lodge is very safe and secure. Their video surveillance system and gated premises provide a high level of security for the guests and that is important when traveling abroad. Our mission team conducted training seminars on the grounds using the tent, chairs, tables, etc that Trevor provided for us on both of our stays at the hotel. The location of the hotel is great, especially if you need to be reasonably close to Nairobi for airport, shopping, etc, but also for excursions to other locations such as the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha, etc. Trevor is excellent at arranging safe, reliable transportation to take you anywhere you need to go in Kenya. The atmosphere at the Kikuyu Lodge is more personalized than at most larger hotels, and Trevor and Hannah make you feel right at home during your stay.

It is always a pleasure to meet the individual requirement of guests, whether it be tourists, business or those visiting to assist in local development and training. We are all delighted that this trip was successful and thank Fred for his words of appreciation and the work that was done in the nearby villages and community.

If you like listening to the grand prix on TV over breakfast...
If you like three hour church services next door via loudspeaker on a Sunday morning...
If you don't want a wink of sleep because you are on a major trunk road...
if you like being locked in in a dangerous suburb...
If you like paying 40 dollars (EACH WAY) a trip to and from Nairobi with his 'secure' driver when you could get on a matatu (public minibus) for 50bob (yes thats right around 35p)...
If you want a radio on under your room at 6am and two dry biscuits for supper after a two day journey...
If you want Trevor banging on about wanting good reviews without actually seeming to give a stuff about whether you are there or not...

then this is the place for you!

We stayed in a budget room for a fifth of the price that was cleaner and had much hot running water and was quiet at night. Seriously, if you're going to pay this kind of money, go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else. There wasn't even AC. FAIL!

I love honest reviews,
Quotes
1,"If you like listening to the grand prix on TV over breakfast... " Three options of where to eat breakfast TV Lounge, Dining Area or on the Terrace, why pick the TV Lounge!
2"If you like three hour church services next door via loudspeaker on a Sunday morning..." No Church Next Door!
3,"If you don't want a wink of sleep because you are on a major trunk road...
if you like being locked in in a dangerous suburb..." Safer than parts of Manchester and quieter too, the main road is 300 metres away !
4,"If you like paying 40 dollars (EACH WAY) " Taxi to town is $20 each way or $100 for 9 hours Local!
5,"If you want a radio on under your room at 6am and two dry biscuits for supper after a two day journey." There is no radio that was on at 6 on a Sunday Morning and the flight arrived 2 hours late, our driver waited. They arrived at the hotel just before midnight and were offered drinks and biscuits, Free of Charge of course.

If you can find me a clean, safe, quiet, hotel at 10 pounds a night in Nairobi as this person suggests please let me know and I will market it for the owner.

Please read several reviews before making a judgement, and if you come and stay with us finding something not to your satisfaction please tell us. That is what we are here for.

We were on a two week self drive safari. Trevor's contacts in sorting a 4X4, his local knowledge, and willingness to help, with everything from loaning us spare fuel cans, tools, and his personal Sat' Nav', to advice on routes, made our holiday in Kenya the best to date.
Staying at the Kikuyu Lodge Hotel is not the sterile, insulating experience of the usual large hotels in downtown Nairobi. It feels part of the local community of Magana; about 20 mins from the city centre. You will hear some noise from the local community, be that traffic, goats, chickens or children playing, but the payback is feeling that you are actually in Kenya, not some "corporate managed" hotel environment.
We stayed three nights at the beginning of our trip, and two at the end. We were made to feel very welcome, meal times arranged to suit us, Trevor's friendly company during evening meals, and Hannah's ever cheerful presence to make us laugh.
Highly recommended if you want to feel part of Kenya, and why would you come to Kenya and not want to be!!

Well Steve has spent a lot of time in Kenya on and off over the years so I feel it is a real honour for him to give the hotel and staff such praise. We much appreciate the recommendation of such an experienced traveller.
