“Acceptable for a couple of nights”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

I have seen the Ambassadeur described as "tired colonial" which sums it up quite well. The decor is tired and in need of a make over, but the rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. Bathroom was tatty, but again clean. Food was good especially breakfast. Restaurant food was acceptable, but the full menu not always available. Service was good and staff friendly.

Security was good. Felt safe.

Budget hotel, big rooms, limited but good food.
Was in corner big room.
Bathrooms can be a put off as is old. Can do with revamping.
Roads outside are noisy till late night though.
Staff and room service was great. Bar with limited selection.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing main roads will be quieter

I stayed at the hotel on 20/03/14. Quiet reasonable and not at all bad, after reviewing all the bad comments on it. Although not very clean, but still okay for USD 60 (including a good breakfast). No security issue, rooms are secure. Although lot of noise from the streets for those residing on 1st and 2nd floor. I stayed on the 5th floor. Bar very lively and restaurant quiet reasonable priced. The best thing about the hotel is, it is at the very center of Nairobi town and taxis are easily available. Will definitely use it again and would recommend it for budget tourists.

Room Tip: rooms on the 4th and 5th floor are free of noise pollution from the streets below.

The safari hotel was brilliant what we stayed at.but after a delay at airport we was send to the most grubby down and out slum.my mum was to scared to gt of the bus as of gang of people crowding.well as for the security big bolts put on the door to keep people out why not just use a key? After seeing the bolts put on the doors we gt a bit worried.as for the bedroom it was in a poor condition we couldnt go sleep noise horrific no hotwater.i wouldnt dare sleep in the bed just in case caught something. My partner got a few hours sleep when he woke he had a rash on his arm. We would not dare have any breakfast this is a poor quality hotel and u pay travel insurance to stay in a place like this. Some people were getting taking to the hilton that gotta bw way better than that grubby place.

At the reception you are met by smiling staff but the noise from the matatus and clubs is horrible! The room I got was huge for only one person. Tree beds and bathtub with waterheater so it is possible to get a decent shower. Housekeeping staff is great. Happy and chatty!
But you will NOT get ANY sleep here. I stayed for four days ending up on the bathroom floor for a more quiet place to sleep. Also the wifi doesn't work unless close to the door. Finale I moved and got a refund for the last days - once again very good service and they are truly sorry about the noise.... But what to do...

Stayed the night of 4 October 2013 and paid the Kenyan resident rate of KES3,800 for two people in a double room. Staff advised the tourist rate is US$70 per night. The hotel is in a good location right in the centre of Nairobi next to the National Archives. We stayed on the 6th floor but there was still noise from the street throughout the day and night. The rooms and furnishings are quite old and in need of an upgrade. Air conditioner, towel, bottled water and TV with 12 channels in the room. Basic accommodation for those wanting a mid-range stay in central Nairobi.

Room Tip: Ask for a room as high as possible away from the street noise.

Terrible location!! The noise from outside is horrific. Crowded entrance (very scary) Abysmal service!! Very old furniture and fittings. Taking a shower was an an experience for the brave and desperate. Security does not seem assured. Not recommended at all.
