“A neglected gem”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2011

The place is reminiscent of utter neglect, but the huge variety of plants in varying ages and sizes gives a calming feel of fresh atmosphere to relaxing visitors. The walkways through the trees would scare the non adventurous.

“For tree-huggers and botanists”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2010

If you are in interested in plants then the Arboretum is worth a visit - it dates from the early 20th century when the British colonists planted various species of trees to test their suitability to the climate. It is currently maintained in a poor condition, with locals using it as a park. There are some attractive walks, and I saw some locals playing football one day. Be careful of taking photos - the gardens abut the State House where the President is. I visited the caretaker cottage (a cute old stone place) and went upstairs where you can buy plant books - the staff were NOT helpful! But I bought a couple of interesting books, including one on local medicinal plants. The Girl Guide HQ is located nearby too.

“VERY disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2010

Don't bother with a visit. It might have been nice years ago, but not now. Appeared to be a hang out for the homeless... I didn't feel so safe. Stayed about 10 minutes and left.
