If you are a history buff and want to know more about the origin of Nairobi then this is the place to be. The museum traces the history of Uganda railway, also knows as the iron snake and how halfway point came to be Nairobi. The photos are fantastic and there are literally hundreds of artifacts in the museum itself. Then outside, you can see some of the original locomotives, including the one that Lyall was killed in by a lion. In another area there are loads of decommissioned passenger trains most of which date back to the 1950s, that you can wander through. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints these trains have seen better days.and their interiors are rather shabby.
All in all, no visit to Nairobi should be without seeing the railway museum. Admission price is very reasonable and the staff are extremely helpful.
