“Visiting Friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I am fortunate to be able to visit Nairobi to see friends and play golf. I normally stay at Windsor and have been doing so since 2007. I have seen the standard improve year on year, and speaking to the GM last week he described the plans to continue the improvements.
I have stayed in several places in Nairobi but the friendliness and tranquillity of Windsor make it stand out, along with the excellent standard of food presented.
The Golf Course is one of my favourites and also benefitting from further investment in machinery and training for the Green Keepers. Challenge yourself from the Blue Tee off the 1st!! One of the very best settings for an opening tee shot.

I am staying at the Windsor Hotel now (12th November 2014) where I am running two 5-day training courses. It is simply great. I love it here. The staff are super. It is spotlessly clean......More later.

Room Tip: Room 304 is enormous and overlooks the golf course. Wonderful.

I stayed at the Windsor from the 25th - 27th of October. It is a well maintained hotel and offers a tranquil environment. The view of the golf course from my room just gave so much peace compared to what you would get even at the best hotels in the city. I would recommend companies who wish to have uninterrupted workshops/events to consider the Windsor when in Nairobi. The service is also great. Friendly staff and "just ok food" to get you by. They also offer a great fitness center with a dedicated fitness trainer to assist members and hotel guests for free!!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms would be great! Roonm 132

A place with the best meals in Nairobi. It is suitable for families with kids, couples on honey moon, business or just a vacation. It is near to great shopping malls, it is accessible from the main roads and from the airport.

Windsor Hotel Nairobi

A light mist with the rising sun, bouncing from the shingle roofed Victorian style buildings, with the perfect red rose touch and manicured green lawns. A touch of England made real only by, somewhat ghostly, green fever trees.

Rossetti type paintings. Pianist. Good wine and crunchy vegetables. Within the time warp of burnished bronze, polished wood and white linen. There is even the golfer on the practice green, in his two-plus-fours, who - if captured in sepia - would be a distant ghost of a bygone, yet romantic, age.

Fast, free, Internet. Cellphone ringtones invasive, yet entwined in the majestic coffee plantations through which the river meanders. The sunken garden offers a place of reflection, and the swimming pool terrace a morning spot for a cappuccino and to cloud watch. Cooled by the breeze that carries the smell of freshly mown grass.

Service was good, with no complaints about changing a bottle of wine that was corked. The wine list provides interesting options, and all of those requested were in stock. The steak quality was variable from excellent to average. The vegetables offering combinations from an all green pea, broccoli and string beans to the more traditional mix with carrots and cauliflower.

The rooms, although large and well appointed, don't have aircons, or mozzie nets which makes them stuffy or you get bitten to pieces if you open the windows.

4 nights standard room

The location is about 30-45mins from the CBD depending on traffic. There is nothing much really nearby so you would use this accommodation for the golf resort. We were staying her for a wedding which was changed to an alternate venue at last minute - so there was not really much to do at the resort unless you play golf.

Check-in took ages, I honestly do not know what they were doing. The rooms are a little dated and really need to have some renovation to modernise. We booked a double room but were given one with two beds. Apparently they just push the beds together and remake the sheets - which they did for us. No tea/coffee facilities were provided and there was no air-conditioning or mosquito netting. The rooms did get quite warm at night and they provided a fan, which was the noisiest fan I have ever heard. Surprisingly there was only a desk and floor lamp within the bedroom area which we found to be insufficient lighting.

The service whilst accommodating was rather slow and inconsistent. For example, when I asked for an ironing board it came straight away but when we asked for extra towels it took 15minutes. Out of the four nights we only had the paper hung outside the door on the first 2 nights. Also they only placed chocolates during the night service on the two middle nights. We were staying at the hotel with other guests and they had similar inconsistent service all on different days.

Apart from the golf course the other activities available were the driving/practice range, pool, mountain bike hire, jogging/walking track, gym, tennis and squash courts. There was a choice of two restaurants a formal restaurant downstairs and casual restaurant by the pool area. Breakfast in the downstairs restaurant was good with plenty of hot/cold choices.

Wifi is complementary although the signal is a little weak in our room which was at the end of the northern wing. The casual restaurant food was average, however, however the staff were not very accommodating when we asked them to split bill.

Overall average accommodation, would stay there if I wanted to play golf, but otherwise a bit far from the CBD and not a lot to do otherwise.

Room Tip: Rooms on the northern wing-pool side (away from the driving range/tennis courts) appear to have less...

I have been coming to windsor for the last 2 years, it is a very classy , well maintained and beautiful property.
The swimming pool is amazing, very clean heated pool.
The staff are very polite and helpful. The food is very good in quality, although it is a little git over priced.
I highly recommend this place.
