“Hard beds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Stayed in February when attending a wedding Reception at the hotel. Great reception area. Very spacious with lots of polished wood and comfortable furniture. The pool was excellent with plenty of space and atmosphere, with very attentive staff. The staff were very good but the service of food was very slow.

The wedding reception layout down by the lake was a picture and a good time was had by all the guests.

Our room was large and airy, but the lighting was very poor. Reading without my backlit device's would have been difficult. Onother minor problem was the slightly dangerous step down into the shower area. I know I was not the only memeber of our party to trip over this.

The general ambience and location was excellent, and if the kitchen could be speeded up a little, it would be rated excellent.

One thing the management would do well to take note of however, was the "firmness" of the bed. It was like sleeping on a slab of concrete! Again i was not the only one in our group to comment on this.

I would certainly go back to the Windsor, but only after beeing assured that I was going to be given a softer bed.

Room Tip: Find one with a soft bed.

I can't comment on the quality of the rooms, but the hotel is pretty impressive in its Colonial magnificence. The staff I encountered were very good, welcoming and keen to help.

I visited with a resident friend to play golf on their excellent course. There are some challenging holes made more difficult towards the end by fatigue brought on through playing at altitude and some deceptive long climbs to greens. There is an abundance of wildlife and the monkeys do their level best to put you off - my repeated excuse. We certainly had to play through a few groups, which at least made for some excellent photos. Other than the monkeys there are many beautiful birds and, in our group, a shark! - claiming he hadn't played for years.

I would recommend a caddie, as aside from the course being long, their knowledge of the course and ability to carefully critique your play is/was invaluable. The round should be finished with a well earned beer, whilst watching those following you also try to chip onto the 18th green without surrendering their ball into a large piece of water.

Stayed here recently for three nights for a friends wedding. Lovely setting overlooking the golf course. Very elegant lobby and restaurants, big wooden floors. Rooms spacious, big bathrooms.

Lovely warm swimming pool, although this got rather busy at weekends with children. So much room another pool would be an asset.

Lovely breakfast on the patio overlooking the golf course. Swimming watching the monkeys in the trees overlooking the pool.

Substantial grounds and lake. Excellent overall, would definitely come back.

Room Tip: We travelled here with 14 other people, all rooms were good.

Very British, the architecture and the sorrounding, elegant looby and resturants, wooden floors, big bathrooms...I like the green around, the lakes and the birds..evenings are cool and calm.. if u r in a lesiure trip best for golfers.
An amazingly talanted singer cherished an evening while celebrating one friend s birthday.
Pool is warm but too warm for afternoon.
I wanted to go for a walk by lakeside but it look so deserted and I have to run back chasing by a monkey..but with bicycling or in group I think its perfect for a long run.
Rooms were not so quiet, u can hear people all the time..and the place is bit far for anythng around.
I was expecting to try some traditional kenyan food but couldn't find any

We were housed in the Windsor Park housing complex, which is part of the Windsor Park Hotel and Country Club for the last fifteen days of my contract in Kenya. When we first looked at the accommodation we were extremely impressed, but we subsequently learned that the house we were shown was the "show house" and whilst the one we were allocated was of the same design, that's where the similarity ended! Much of the equipment we had originally seen was not available when we arrived, including gas to cook with, a kettle and toaster amongst other things and it took five days for us to receive everything!
Furnishings were certainly considerably poorer than those we had been shown and we had problems with hot water (I had cold showers for five days), TV reception and other minor problems. We were also accused of having broken a window and a toilet seat, but this was amicably resolved following a meeting with the General Manager. Eating at the hotel is an experience as whilst it promises so much with the setting and the golf course, service is extremely slow and my advice, if you are going to eat there, is to allow at least an hour for your food to be served.
This facility has so much potential and we were told that the intention was that it be of the same standard as a five star hotel. It was also extremely noisy on Saturday nights when weddings were held at the venue, which disturbed our sleep well into the wee hours of the morning. As indicated the surroundings are very picturesque, the golf course is great, which would better suit those on a holiday rather than on business.

The feel of the property is very British. Big golf course, and every room has a view of it. Very well built club house, and choices of food and beverage outlets. But that is about it. Service is very poor - you can order your food, and expect it in one hour. It happened to us more than often, and we thus settled for the buffet that they usually have. The place is best for those looking for solace, or perhaps part of a golfing tour, where hotel services are secondary.

Room Tip: Choose rooms in villas, as they are bigger. No AC in any room.

What a waste of a beautiful hotel in a stunning setting ... Stayed 4 nights in a large group, and before long we were all comparing unfavourable notes on the food and the service. We waited over an hour for food twice, once at the casual pool bar, and once in the upmarket Windsor Room, where to add insult to injury, all steaks were tough as old leather, and many were incorrectly cooked.

We had several experiences where multiple waiters (up to three) would stop at our table and try to take our order (which had already been taken). There was clearly a lack of training and "method" to the way things worked. Staff were friendly enough, especially when engaged or complemented, but it seemed that there was inadequate supervision or direction or training.

We also had several experiences where the food served was clearly not fresh, from stale bread rolls, to a cup of tea served in the room with a brown skin on top of it. My wife also had the joy of watching her food handler touching the pancakes he was preparing multiple times with his hands, to check for doneness, to fold them, and to pick them up and serve them.

One little golden gem in the midst of all this - the espresso coffees were outstanding. Every time. And the staff was very proud of their barista skills.

Hopefully management can respond to this kind of feedback, this was clearly not an isolated bad experience. The hotel could be so much more if the poor food and service are addressed ... and I am told that it used to be an all round 5 star place to visit.
