“Old hotel just for travellers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2011

The only good point is the location as you can go in & out from their back side garden which is 20 meters across the Sarit shopping center where you can shopping clothes & books. Also there is a large supermarket on the second level of the mall.
The hotel itself is old, bathroom slippery (lucky if you don't fell). Most of guests are travelers on their first or last night in Kenya before or after a safari so most of people wake up early in the morning and it get noisy as there is a very poor sound proof, it's like you sleep in the corridor. Breakfast is very poor and the cooks are not taking everyone on the same level (according profile and race...).
For dinner you can cross the road and they will be pleased to guide you in & back (due to late night safety) where there is a pizza - bar restaurant which belong also to the hotel. It's the best place for dinner as it's a nightmare with traffic jam in Nairobi, don't waste your time and take risks, just go there, it's fine with music.

Functional, no nonsense, nothing more. OK-ish but definitely not for an extended stay. Better value to be found elsewhere. Oh - and don't venture out locally after dark- distinctly dodgy area.

we arrived on the 3rd day of our honeymoon for a one night stop at this hotel, and to be honest we were lucky it was only 1 night!

Our room was filthy, bedsheets stained, and we got bitten by fleas during the night there. We did ask to be moved as our room was on the ground floor on what is said to be *not a nice area of town*, noisy as it was next to the front door, but were told there was no other room to move to.

The staff that we dealt with were friendly and helpful (catering staff), and after previous reports that we'd read we stayed away from some of the dishes on the menu.

We would'nt go back to this hotel and advised our travel company of the problems.

We arrived in Nairobi late at night and assumed we'd be lucky to get a snack when we finally reached the hotel. The staff were fantastic, meeting all our needs for food and drink post-midnight. We had a room overlooking the pool area, but it was very quiet and we had no problems sleeping. The building work going on next door did not produce excessive amounts of noise, possibly because it's nearly finished.

This hotel is like most hotels in Nairobi totally overpriced. The lowest price is 200 USD per night. totally ridiculous! The hotels tries to be classy but fails the service is not on par and the maintenance is lacking. It is a shame how the tourism industry in Kenya is only focused on ripping of the people that visit instead of serving them well for the right price. Hotel Jacaranda is a cornerstone of this rip off culture.

We read previous logs on this hotel and were terrified about staying there. However we found it to be a decent 3 star style hotel set in its own grounds with friendly staff and adequate facilities. The food is acceptable and is priced similar to what you would find in the UK. It is perfectly decent for one night, however i would not necessarily recommend that you stay there any longer. My only real criticism is that the walls between the bedrooms and corridors are thin and you can hear people, however it is not that bad!

We stayed here at the start of our safari from the UK. The hotel is better than I had expected. We had lunch in the outdoor cafe under the trees (samosas etc and Tusker beer at 300 Kenyan Shillings) and the food and service were good. Dinner in the restaurant was approx £17 for 4 courses and the main course was selected from a menu (it was superbly cooked and presented) with the rest, buffet style.

There is a nice gift shop but be prepared to pay way over the odds for books- better to buy wildlife guides etc before you get here! There is a shopping mall across the street which was fun to while away an hour or so. There is a huge supermarket here where you can stock up on supplies such as water and Tusker (90 Shillings!).

The rooms were reasonable, except ours was noisy as it was by the stairwell and you could here cases being dragged up and down the stairs at all hours. The inside bar is not very atmospheric and is quite clinical. Pool looked lovely but didn't have time to try it!
