“Very helpful staff, unobtrusive building work.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2010

We arrived in Nairobi late at night and assumed we'd be lucky to get a snack when we finally reached the hotel. The staff were fantastic, meeting all our needs for food and drink post-midnight. We had a room overlooking the pool area, but it was very quiet and we had no problems sleeping. The building work going on next door did not produce excessive amounts of noise, possibly because it's nearly finished.

This hotel is like most hotels in Nairobi totally overpriced. The lowest price is 200 USD per night. totally ridiculous! The hotels tries to be classy but fails the service is not on par and the maintenance is lacking. It is a shame how the tourism industry in Kenya is only focused on ripping of the people that visit instead of serving them well for the right price. Hotel Jacaranda is a cornerstone of this rip off culture.

We read previous logs on this hotel and were terrified about staying there. However we found it to be a decent 3 star style hotel set in its own grounds with friendly staff and adequate facilities. The food is acceptable and is priced similar to what you would find in the UK. It is perfectly decent for one night, however i would not necessarily recommend that you stay there any longer. My only real criticism is that the walls between the bedrooms and corridors are thin and you can hear people, however it is not that bad!

We stayed here at the start of our safari from the UK. The hotel is better than I had expected. We had lunch in the outdoor cafe under the trees (samosas etc and Tusker beer at 300 Kenyan Shillings) and the food and service were good. Dinner in the restaurant was approx £17 for 4 courses and the main course was selected from a menu (it was superbly cooked and presented) with the rest, buffet style.

There is a nice gift shop but be prepared to pay way over the odds for books- better to buy wildlife guides etc before you get here! There is a shopping mall across the street which was fun to while away an hour or so. There is a huge supermarket here where you can stock up on supplies such as water and Tusker (90 Shillings!).

The rooms were reasonable, except ours was noisy as it was by the stairwell and you could here cases being dragged up and down the stairs at all hours. The inside bar is not very atmospheric and is quite clinical. Pool looked lovely but didn't have time to try it!

Clean and good location. The garden is very nice and staff helpful and friendly. Not so expensive and close to the best jaapnese restaurant in Nairobi.

When first knew that I was to stay @the Jacaranda i was a bit scared since it is not a five star hotel and in Nairobi...! specially when some of our friends where staying at the hilton and the intercon ..but when i went there i spent the best days of my life. very friendly staff from the bell man till the manager, very quite, very amusing at night and near to the Gypsie place and a disco place, the pool, spa and gym perfect. however the food was not that good but at the gypsie the food is just perfect. i highly recomend the stay there and by the way our friend staying at the Hilton was not happy...
Thanks JACARANDA will definetly come back

2 nights stay. Reception is helpful. Lobby is well presented. Room is comfortable enough. There are 2 things that I find missing from the room. 1st is that there are no slippers in the room. Nairobi is cold, yet there are no slippers. Basically you are walking on cold floor tiles. 2nd is that there are no bathrobes provided. Price at USD 260 per night, I'm sure bathrobes should be in the room. Had dinner at the restaurant, food is not wonderful but you will be able to finish it. I think the security at the hotel is good as I can see many security walking around when the night falls.
