“A very decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

I stayed here before and after a safari and all three rooms were very clean, pleasant and quiet. The food was delicious from the bar or restaurant or room service. I especially enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the green and lush garden setting. The porters were helpful, even walking me to a local shop rather than giving me directions! The business centre computer connection was a bit slow and there is a charge for this and for wifi. A nice touch is the damp towel and glass of juice on arrival at the hotel. I used the spa on three occasions and the massage was excellent, just what I needed after safari! I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: If you want to sleep in, ask for a room in the wing furtherest from the gym as there are early morni...

I stayed here on a business trip. The location is very good and the hotel is embedded in gardens with pleasant outdoor settings around the bar. The the welcome was very warm and helpful but the internal decor is a bit tired and retro. The room was pleasant enough with a large comfortable bed but no a/c . This was OK as it was June but I bet it gets a lot warmer in summer. There was a mini bar with beer, spirits and some fizzy water. This was fine but there was no bottle opener in the room. I called reception and one was duly delivered but I had to return it immediately. I am sure I have seen this process in a prison film! Either bottle openers are in short supply or one vcannot be trusted to use them safely alone. The next night was worse as I obviously had offended someone as the minbar was locked and the key removed. I called reception and asked for the key and a bottle opener but as no one came in 30 minutes I surrenedered and went to bed. The quality of the food was moderately good to average.

Jacaranda is a mixed experience. The rate was reasonable for Nairobi ($170 with breakfast) and the breakfast is good. The garden and pool area are really lovely and peaceful. The brand new gym is excellent, with lots of space, a variety of equipment, personal trainers on site, as well as spin and aerobics/dance classes. The internet worked fine, which is a must for business travel. But my room in the 'garden' wing (overlooking the parking lot) was noisy every night as guests and guards chatted below my (closed) window, and the disco across the street thumped until late at night (weeknights). Dinner was awful, expensive and extraordinarily slow to be served. Reception service was prompt and helpful. My colleagues had rooms in the two other wings and didn't find them too loud, although one colleague found her room much smaller and in disrepair compared to mine. After four nights, I moved to the hotel next door, the Sankara.

Room Tip: Avoid the 'garden' wing and take a look at a few rooms before choosing one.

I stayed at the Jacaranda Hotel on a business trip. The most important recommendation of this hotel is its location. It is in the middle of Westlands, off Wayaki Way, right next to the Sarit Centre and within 5 minutes of Westgate. There are ATMs across the way. It also has one or two good restaurants close by. This is useful because the in-house food is extremely over-priced by Nairobi restaurant standards but also given the very average standard of the food served. You won't want to eat in.

I also noted that I was quoted in USD but billed in Kenyan Shillings at a very unfavourable rate. If you are asking for a quotation from this and any other Kenyan hotel, insist on KSH at the start in order to make realistic comparisons. It can mean the difference between USD180 and USD200 per night.

Otherwise, the staff were helpful and the standard of the rooms was good.

Room Tip: Other travellers have complained about the noise from the pizza garden but I didn't experience t...

I recently stayed 3 nights at this Hotel following a month long journey around East Africa.
We found this hotel to be in an area where we felt safe to walk around both during daytime and night. There are many security guards on duty at night and with usual precautions you should experience no problems.
The hotel is well located with the Sarit Centre close by and within a 20 minute walk to the Westlands Mall Shopping Centre. There is a large curio market nearby to visit during daylight hours only though!!
Taxis are readily available by the Sarit Centre.
The breakfast spread is absolutely fantastic and very fresh and the service is also first class.
While there we did a day trip to visit The David Sheldrick Elephant Orhanage, The Giraffe Manor and Karen Blixen House museum. The trip was organised by African Wildcat Adventure Safaris and was fantastic and well worth it. I recommend this day trip to any visitir to Nairobi.
Overall I found the staff service to be prompt and responsive. The conceirge was very helpful in re-confirming onward flights for us.
This is a nice peacful hotel and has a very safe feel about it

Room Tip: Try to have room towards the rear of property as on Friday and Saturday nights a nearby Disco/Bar is...
