“Not really a tapas bar...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

It was my first time at this place since I heard it is under the same management of art caffe (which is absolute class!). The tapas menu is not really a spanish tapas menu but kind of a wanabee tapas menu. For instance non of the taps has olives, or cheese!

The food portions are good enough and drinks are great too! I still find this place abit more pricey than it really should be considering what is on offer.

“Fake tapas bar but otherwise great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

The aficionados of the real tapas scene will feel conned but if they have good humour, they may yet have a tolerably good time at this well laid out..sweetly located bar.. The service is great and the waiters solicitous without being in your face. Since it is not the real 'McCoy' I expected to enjoy myself as I would in a good bar.. No single malt whisky other a 10 year old glenmorangie that is vastly over-priced. I took refuge in a Corona Extra and sat back to enjoy the service.. The restaurant business is about integrity and these guys have a good product... They should not spoil it by trying to make it what it is not..

“Tapas? Not really, but attentive service, convivial atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

The latest offering from the Art Caffe group bears the hallmarks of all their restaurants: understated, tasteful décor, solicitous service, cozy ambiance. Too bad they don’t seem to know the definition of tapas. The food on offer is tasty, but who ever heard of a tapas bar without cheese, olives or chorizo on the menu? Any tapas chef in Madrid or Barcelona who tried to pass off French Fries (chips) as “patatas bravas” would be summarily dismissed. In the same vein, a tortilla turns out to be wrap, not an egg dish resembling an omelet, as it is in Spain. When we specifically asked for olives, we were brought some that, strangely, seemed to have been doused in perfume. Not at all a pleasant experience. My friend went away grousing that he hadn’t had any tapas despite the fact that we had ordered (and consumed) five dishes.

It’s possible that the owners thought there were not enough expats in Nairobi who know what Spanish tapas really are and that Kenyans certainly don’t. They’re probably wrong on the first count and should take the effort to educate the palates of their Kenyan customers. There’s much that’s right about this bar, but they can’t expect customers to come back DESPITE the food.

“Great food and cocktails”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Set in the Westgate Mall, Tapas Ceviche is a new addition to the Nairobi dining scene offering small plates and excellent cocktails. The outdoor seating is pleasant all year round (unless you are one of those people who say Nairobi is cold).

The aubergine con salsa is the best dish I have had here, followed by the churros. I am thrilled to have real churros (served with chocolate sauce) in Nairobi. Besides the aubergine and the churros, the seared octopus and asparagus dishes are a must try.

The cocktails are well-made. The margaritas and mojitos are definitely worth trying. The sangria pitchers are also great.
