“good for lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

It is a good place for lunch. There is limited seating space inside. It is not ideal for a dinner because it is so small. The food was nice and i would recommend it for lunch.

“Nice Mexican Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Zapata's has a simple atmosphere and reasonably good good at a reasonable price. I've taken visitors there a few times for supper. Standard Mexican fare of burritos, tostados, quesedillas beans, rice and cheese means vegetarians can eat well. Has a secure parking lot. Not a place to walk to at night.

“DOWNRIGHT PATHETIC”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

Well What can i say about this restaurant?
a. Ambience reflects that someone was in a hurry to get their restaurant up and running and did a cross of 'Mexican" and 'China' for interiors.
b.The seating inside is very uncomfortable and is starkingly lacking privacy.
c. Mexican restaurants should have mexican themes or some sort of music to that effect. Not a large TV screen blaring either local news or some series.
d. Staff look uninterested in serving you.
e. Benches made for you to sit in the outside area. For what they are charging, they could definitely do much much better.
f. Food is way too expensive and NO it is NOT value for Money.
g. Only bright side is their special happy hours - but I do not see myself driving down there just for Happy hour.

They say they are Mexican specialist restaurant. I beg to differ. Foods quality and quantity are lacking in all aspects. Their interiors and lack of privacy could be overlooked were it not for the cheap furniture they have used both interiors and exteriors.

If you are here, have the drinks. Try the food at your peril.

“Money I will never get back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

I was very excited to try this restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner, however upon arrival at the restaurant I was thoroughly disappointed. There ambiance was terrible, instead of some nice music etc...the TV was on and all you could hear was news. The staff looked very unprofessional and were not attentive in the slightest. I ordered the Nachos starter and was expecting delicious home made tortilla chips, cream sour cream and zingy salsa. Instead, we were given tortillas chips from Nakumatt which were extremely stale. Instead of delicious sour cream, I was given maziwa lala. Things did not pick up with the mains, all of us were thoroughly disappointed with the bland and very boring dishes. All in all, I spent money that I will never get back for what was a terrible and unsatisfactory dining experience.

“Horribly downhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

I visited this restaurant about a year ago. I was very pleased with the large food and drink selection. Even though everything did not come out the way we expected, it was all quite good and certainly the best Mexican food in Kenya.

However, things have changed drastically. The drink menu has been cut in half and the food menu is a shadow of its former self, now with only 5 main course choices. See my attached photo.

The chips were corn chips bought from the local market and were cool ranch flavored. The tortillas we got with the queso fondu were 3 days stale and closer to a tostada at that point. Two of us had fajitas and two had quesadillas, all with chicken. Very little cheese in the quesadilla. Those who had fajitas were sick that night. The drinks we had were okay, but we had a bit of a run around in how they applied their happy hour.

The guacamole was decent if you like a lot of tomatoes. No salsa was ever served. The beans were passable.

We will not be returning.
